"Fallout from the Red Sox-Angels fracas in Anaheim on Sunday emerged yesterday, as well as a deep, vast difference in opinions about what happened and why. On one side are the Angels and Bob Watson, vice president of discipline for Major League Baseball, who suspended Josh Beckett six games for throwing a pitch with intent at the head of Bobby Abreu and also “aggressive actions.” Disputing that take are Beckett, the Sox and the umpires, whose actions and words Sunday were overruled by Watson (Boston Herald)."
Every pitcher basically appeals their suspension, so the team can find a better time to actual serve it. With Dice-K maybe heading to the DL, and the Sox off to a 2-6 start, right now is not the time. With that being said, he might actually have a shot at getting this reduced. The umpires have come out and said that they didn't think he threw at Abeu intentionally. Personally I think he did, but at least he has a leg to stand on in his argument. Even if it is reduced it will just be by a game, and will just push a start back a day or two.
