Maurice Jones-Drew Gets Extension

"Running back Maurice Jones-Drew and the Jacksonville Jaguars agreed to terms Wednesday on a four-year contract extension. Jones-Drew, a second-round draft pick out of UCLA in 2006, was expected to sign the new deal before an afternoon news conference. Financial details of the extension were not immediately available, but Jones-Drew said earlier this year that his agent planned to use Steven Jackson's six-year, $49.3 million deal with St. Louis as a baseline for negotiations (Sportsline)."

It is hard to say if this is a good deal for the jaguars without seeing how much it will affect their cap, but either way they had to keep this guy around. He was their 2nd leading receiver with 565 yards, and even though his stats slipped last year he has 6,003 all-purpose yards and 40 touchdowns in three seasons. The reason his totals went down last year was because his offensive line is terrible, which I also think is the reason Garrard was not himself. Anyways, he will be a very solid all around back for the Jags for years to come.

**UPDATE**

"According to a source, the Jacksonville Jaguars and Jones-Drew have agreed on a deal worth more than $8.2 million a year (ESPN)."

I take back most of what I said. That seems like way too much to me.
