Bruins Resign Krejci

"As Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli put it, he had been working on an extension for David Krejci for "a while." Yesterday, those negotiations paid off for both sides. Krejci, who was scheduled to become a restricted free agent, agreed to a three-year extension worth an annual average of $3.75 million. He will earn $3.5 million in 2009-10, $3.75 million in 2010-11, and $4 million in 2011-12 (Boston.com)."

Great news for the Bruins, who really needed to bring back at least one of the main free agents (Krejci/Kessel). This is a solid raise for Krejci who was only making $883,000 last season. The great thing about this deal is that when his contract is up in 3 years he will still be a restricted free agent, since he will still be under the age of 27. Peter Chiarelli is proving again and again that he knows exactly what he is doing with this team. I can't say enough about how he has rebuilt this franchise, but I am already excited about next season. Chiarelli now will work on extending Kessel, Hunwick, and Bitz. The Bruins currently have nine forwards, five defensemen, and two goalies under contract for 2009-10, with a total cap hit of $48 million. The 2009-10 cap is expected to remain at $56.7 million or dip slightly. I hope they can resign Kessel, but at least we know we will be able to keep one of our young stars.
