"In his post today, ESPN's Buster Olney notes that, "The Red Sox made a decision on John Smoltz that sort of puts off any hard decision, but it's clear that Daisuke Matsuzaka must start to show some good results." Bottom line is that Smoltz isn't entering the rotation overnight, but could in the next couple weeks, and thus Dice-K is facing the reality that a year after going 18-3 with a 2.90 ERA in just 29 starts, his job could be on the line (ESPN)."
Dice-K has been poor this season. My hope is that the fear of losing his job will jolt Dice-K back to life. he has the talent, we all know that, he just needs to get it going. His starts have been painful to watch, and the Sox are going to have some hard decisions to make. I still think there will be a mysterious DL appearance by one of their starters if Penny isn't traded before Smoltz joins the club. Anyways, there will be lots of speculation, but in the end Dice-K needs to pitch a lot better or he could be the one that loses in all of this.
