With Josh Beckett on the mound yesterday it looked like the Sox were in prime position to sweep the Phills. Despite homering in Philadelphia (again), Beckett was never really able to get it going on the mound - giving up 11 hits, equalling the total from his 4 previous starts. After jumping off to an early lead, the Sox pitching is what really ailed them, as Beckett and the bullpen were unable to protect the early advantage. Despite putting up 6 runs, the Sox dropped this one 11-6.
A minor setback. Beckett has looked really good as of late, and apparently his teammates didn't see much of a drop off in his stuff yesterday. The bullpen were obviously ailing from a long night in both the previous games, with Bard being more or less an unproven talent emerging from the pen. I'd say it's been a good week or so stretch for the Sox who still remain in first place, looking to get back on track tomorrow night with Wake on the mound as Interleague play continues with the Marlins in town.
