Red Sox 5 Tigers 1

Terry Francona has done something only 2 managers in the history of the Red Sox have done before him...win 500 games. Dice-K got the win, but he still is struggling to go deep into games. Last night he went 5 innings allowing 1 run on 6 hits with 3 walks and 6 Ks. We really should be surprised by this. Dice-K nibbles and lets guys on base, but he seems to find his way out of it. I still don't like watching it, since it really puts a lot of pressure on the bullpen, and it is aggravating for a guy with that great of stuff never being able to go more then 5 (at most 6) innings. But a win is a win...

Jason Bay hit his 16th HR of the year in the 5th inning. That two run shot was all the Sox needed as their bullpen continues to be unreal. Since Dice-K doesn't pitch more then 5 innings the Sox had to use 4 relievers, but the good news is the Sox have a deep bullpen and those 4 guys combined to throw 4 scoreless innings. Papelbon struggled in the 9th, as the Tigers got some cheap soft hits off him, but then Papelbon was able to crank it up and ended up with 3 Ks.

In case you were wondering Ortiz still sucked, and went 1-5 striking out 3 times.

With the win the Sox are still 1 game back of the Yankees for 1st place in the AL East.
