In June there are never "must win" games, but the Yankees need to win this game. They have their prized offseason addition (CC Sabathia) on the mound tonight, and the Sox have Brad Penny. If the Yankees find a way to lose this game, then the NY papers are going to eat them alive.
The good news for the Yankees is that if they do win they are once again tied for first place in the AL East. Boston needs to get CC of the mound as fast as possible. The Yankees bullpen has been beat up, and if the Sox can get to them again early it could be a long night for the Yanks.
Penny could very well be pitching for his job as Smoltz is almost back, and Buchholz keeps dominating in AAA. I expect him to throw everything he has. It could be an audition for the rest of the MLB to see if he is for real.
