Parcells Saves Tony Sparano's Job

"According to Michael Lombardi of NFL Network, he’ll remain in Miami because of the Big Tuna. Lombardi says Parcells, who stepped down from his post as the Dolphins’ football czar prior to the season, has convinced Ross to stick with Sparano (CBS Sports)."

There was a lot of talk that Sparano was going to be let go, but it seems (at least for now) he has been saved by his buddy Bill Parcells. Yet, we also found out today that the Dolphins are going to be looking for a Offensive Coordinator that has head coach experience. That leaves us with two obvious choices; Josh McDaniels, and Gary Kubiak if he is let go.

So, it seems Sparano will start the year as the head coach of the Dolphins, but he will be looking over his shoulder if one of these guys are brought in. Whoever is the coach will have a lot of work to do. Henne proved he is not the answer at QB, so they are either going to need to bring someone in, or start from scratch once again by drafting one. Most likely they are going to lose Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown, so they will also have to deal with that.

Parcells To Stay With Miami

"The Miami Dolphins fell apart on the field Sunday, but the front office apparently won't self destruct this offseason. Executive vice president of football operations Bill Parcells will return to Miami next season and not exercise an escape clause in his contract, team owner H. Wayne Huizenga said on Sunday. "Bill's going to stay," Huizenga said, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, which first reported his comments. "He told me [Friday] he's going to stay. He said he likes it here (ESPN)."

Any respect for Parcells that I had would have gone out the window if he took off after only 1 season with the Dolphins. He did a fantastic job putting this team together, and I would really like to what he could do with a couple drafts under his belt. It will be interesting to see where this team goes from here. Pennington was awesome all year, but it seems like he always chokes in the playoffs. I think this defense will keep improving, but the really need to add some more weapons on offense, especially WR.

Did Anyone Not Expect This?

Will Bill Parcells become a free agent -- again?
It's a possibility, hinging on whether Miami Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga's sale of his majority ownership of the team goes through, sources told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen.
When Parcells joined the Dolphins as executive vice president of football operations last year, his deal included a one-time out clause that allowed him to walk away, with the rest of his $12 million guaranteed contract fully paid, no strings attached, if Huizenga sold the team.

Obviously this was going to happen. Parcells is a great person to have in your franchise, but he never hangs around to much. He is normally three years and done but never stays long enough to get fired. I think that brings some of the legend of the Tuna. He does a great job with the team he takes over the first couple of years, than bounces.
