Bruins Make Another Trade

The Bruins have acquired defenseman Dennis Seidenberg from Florida. Byron Bitz, who is not on the ice for practice, is said to be involved in this deal. I am actually going to miss Bitz. I am not going to sit here and tell you I know a lot about Dennis Seidenberg, but here what Boston.com is saying...

"Seidenberg has two goals and 21 assists in 62 games this season, averaging 22:54 of ice time per appearance. Seidenberg is a left-handed shot. Seidenberg is earning $2.25 million this season and will be an unrestricted free agent at year's end."

The Bruins still need to add a goal scorer, preferably a winger. To do that they are most likely going to have to move some salary. There have been rumors all over the place from Ryder to Tim Thomas being dealt. I guess we will have to wait to see, but after that last game it was obvious Boston has to shake up this team.

Bruins 4 Thrashers 0

The Bruins ended this game in the first 17 mins, as they racked up 3 goals quickly. I would like to give the Bruins all the credit in the world, but the Thrasher simply looked like they didn't want to be there. Boston beat them to every puck, and the Thrashers really didn't even fight to get back on defense throughout most of the game.

The Bruins got 4 goals from 4 different players (Byron Bitz, Marco Sturm, Steve Begin, and Patrice Bergeron). Tuukka Rask stopped all 18 shots he faced for his 2nd shutout of the season. Rask is now 10-3-2 in games he starts, and is looking like he could be one of the better goalies in the NHL. There were rumors that the Bruins could send Wheeler, Rask, and one other player for Ilya Kovalchuk, but right now I wouldn't trade Rask for anyone. It is just that hard to find goalies this good (like good starting pitching in the MLB).

Anyways, the Bruins should be in good shape for the Winter Classic tomorrow (if it doesn't get rained out) against the Flyers.

Krejci Has Swine Flu

Great just what the Bruins needed...

"David Krejci had been diagnosed with the H1N1 virus and will not play tonight.

“Like most people, we are taking many precautions to try to prevent our players and staff from contracting the H1N1 virus,” said GM Peter Chiarelli in a statement. “Our medical staff is working with David to get him healthy as soon as possible, and our players and staff will continue to take precautions with hopes of preventing the spread of the virus to others in the organization.”

According to Claude Julien, Krejci started feeling sick after Tuesday's 2-0 loss to Detroit (Boston.com)."

The Bruins are listing him as out indefinitely. So now the Bruins are missing Savard (injury), Lucic (injury), Kessel (trade), Kobasew (trade), Ward (trade), Krejci (swine flu), Bitz (injury). They are so low on players I think they should put Rask at wing. He seems like he would be feisty enough...

Other Bruins injury news:

Marc Savard has shed the protective boot from his left foot. Savard is continuing off-ice workouts.

Byron Bitz (groin) skated on his own this morning. Bitz will not play tonight, but remains day-to-day.

Bruins Sign Bitz and Begin

"The Bruins yesterday added the Rat-like former Montreal Canadiens and Dallas Stars center (Steve Begin), signing the unrestricted free agent to a one-year, $850,000 deal. The B’s also re-signed free agent forward Byron Bitz to a multi-year pact, while giving AHL defenseman Johnny Boychuk a one-year deal (Boston Herald)."

Begin is a pain in the ass, but he could be one of those guys that you hate until he is on your team. He will be taking the place of Yelle on the Bruins roster. Bitz really came along at the end of the season. He is like a poor mans Lucic. Both these guys can hit hard, and the Bruins might be trying to become a little tougher for next season. As of right now there is no new news on the Bruins trying to bring back Kessel.
