Jason Kidd Back To Mavericks

Jason Kidd has given the Dallas Mavericks a verbal commitment that he will re-sign with the team Wednesday, according to NBA front-office sources.

Sources told ESPN.com that Kidd, 36, will receive a 3-year, fully-guaranteed contract worth in excess of $25 million.

If it was any other team, I would say this is way to much, but for the Mavs, money is throw away. Jason Kidd is past his prime, but he did have a great year last year. He was getting courted by the Knicks who offered him 19 million over three years, but he decided being on the worst franchise ever would be a bad move. I don't know how well Kidd or the Mavs will do, because if they didn't do anything last year, they aren't going to do anything this year.

Kidd To Meet With Knicks

"Jason Kidd plans to meet with Knicks officials Wednesday morning reports the New York Daily News. The Knicks could sign Kidd to the mid-level exception or try to negotiate a sign-and-trade with Dallas (ESPN)."

I don't think Kidd has much left in the tank, and I don't see why he would want to play for the Knicks unless he just doesn't care about winning anymore. The Knicks are not going to be position to do any real damage next year, so this really doesn't make sense to me. Anyways, maybe he could sell a couple more tickets....

Jason Kidd Is Actually Going to Dallas

According to ESPN, Jason Kidd is really going to Dallas. The breakdown is the Mavs swingman Trenton Hassell and the retired Keith Van Horn will be plugged into the trade in place of Jerry Stackhouse and Devean George. If the newly proposed deal goes through, New Jersey would receive 24-year-old point guard Devin Harris, center DeSagana Diop, guard Maurice Ager, forwards Hassell and Van Horn, two first-round draft picks and $3 million in cash for Kidd and Nets forward Malik Allen.

Like I said earlier this trade is Jason Kidd for Devin Harris. An aging but great vet for a 24 year old pg for the Nets. I like this trade for the Mavs, but it can have drawbacks. For instance what if Jason has any health problems? Then what? Or the fact the Mavs will have to increase their tempo on offense, so that could affect them. I doubt anything bad will result from this, but I am just saying.

For the Nets they have a great, young guard in Devin Harris plus cap room and some draft picks. So we will see if it works out or not.

Trade Blocked: For Now

Devean George of the Dallas Mavericks said, "Fuck that, I'm not going to Jerz!" and who can blame him, New Jersey Sucks and most people from New Jersey suck. For the time being the blockbuster trade between Mavs - Nets has been blocked because Devean Geroge exercised his Larry Bird rights.(defined at the bottom) The trade was originally agreed on a seven-player deal in which Dallas would send 24-year-old point guard Devin Harris, veteran swingman Jerry Stackhouse, center DeSagana Diop, guard Maurice Ager and George -- along with a league-maximum cash inducement of $3 million and two future first-round picks -- to the Nets for Kidd and forward Malik Allen. However, George blocked it. It also seemed like Jerry Stackhouse was going to bought out, too. So when it comes down to it, it would have been just a Kidd for Harris deal. Either way the Mavs are eventually going to have to throw Juwan Howard or Eddie Jones to take Georges spot.

To qualify as a Bird free agent, a player must have played three seasons without being waived or changing teams as a free agent. It also means that when a player is traded, his Bird rights are traded with him, and his new team can use the Bird exception to re-sign him. BREAKING NEWS: Kidd to Mavs

Well it seems Jason Kidd got his wish, he's out of Dirty Jerz. According to ESPN, Jason Kidd is going to the Dallas Mavericks. The deal states that Dallas sending 24-year-old point guard Devin Harris, veteran swingman Jerry Stackhouse, the expiring contracts of center DeSagana Diop and swingman Devean George and guard Maurice Ager, 2 first round picks, and cash to New Jersey for Kidd, Antoine Wright, 2cnd round pick and forward Malik Allen.

After all, the trades seen this year involving "Superstars" suggests the west is getting stacked. If the trade goes through, I believe the Mavs are getting one of the best(if not the best) point guards in the league, and the nets get a high potential guard (Devin Harris), and an abundence of cap space. Hopefully, the west will just beat up each other all play-offs.

However, after this year the Mavs are screwed. They are giving up way too much for an aging but great point guard. I am cautious about this move, just as I was about Shaq.

On another note, Lebron James has to be pissed off about this. It will be interesting to see what he has to say.
