Superbowl Through Neutral Eyes

What a game. The Steelers are now the world champions of football and Big Ben has made one step closer to becoming a sure thing for a spot for all eternity in Canton. But lets be honest, the Cardinals made it very interesting, to say the least. Honestly i was glad i wasn't watching with DP because i got to watch without tension, just simple, univested enjoyment. i wouldn't want to be with him as the Cardinals seemed to attempt a game plan not involving Larry Fitz and then BANG across the middle, splits the two deep backs and 6 points later your boy is doing the two arm raise to the sky yet again this postseason.

But i know i was excited when Holmes made that catch to win the game, and in that way i do wish i got to see DP's reaction. What a catch. An all time great catch at an all time great time. No matter what he does for the rest of his career, that will undoubtedly become the single most important thing hes ever done. the presence of mind to keep both feet inbounds is something that boggles my mind. Arguably the most impressive thing in the game. And you know what the coolest thing about all that is? They tried the same play like 3 plays earlier in the opposite corner with Holmes, and it was JUST missed...he didn't miss the next one.

The Cardinals proved that they deserved to be there, and fuck all the haters, they did their thing and almost came out with a win. They know what its like to be winners and they showed alot of heart last night. they never gave up, Warner had a great game statistically. And even though his stats were more impressive on paper than bens, it just goes to show its not what you did, but when you did it.

The Superbowl is supposed to be like this. two great teams battling it out head to head for the trophy. fuck all those years we had to watch boring games and hope the commercials would make the experience semi enjoyable. this year the commercials were sub par, and this year, i was actually getting up during them so that i wouldn't miss a second of this fantastic, historic, and memorable Superbowl.

And now, this is a clip of Santonio Holes and Hines Ward smelling a fart on the bench during the divisonal championship game against the Chargers this year.

The Refs Got Paid

I had my doubts that this game was on the level. Something just did not seem right. Then the good people over at Deadspin cleared everything up with a well placed link to an interesting celebrity pick on SI.com. You see, it turns out that 2 time Olympic champ Kerri Walsh picked the exact final score of this game. Link Here.

Case closed, she clearly used the Cash4Gold site early and bought herself some refs. Then placed an exact score bet in Vegas paying out 30 or 40 to 1. And the poor Cards get f'd in the process.

Outlandish Superbowl Pick

It’s not really my style to dissect people’s predictions and pepper them with insults, o wait that IS my style. The victim this time is Sports Illustrated football expert, Dr. Z. He believes that the Minnesota Vikings are going to win the Superbowl in February.

Not sure where to start with this one. I suppose it is best to start with the Vikings. They finished last season with a dismal 8-8 record, which apparently when you play in the NFC North is good enough for second place. Dr. Z believes with the addition of Jared Allen the Vikings are going to wreak havoc defensively. While the Vikings are tough on the run, they are dead last in total yards allowed. That leads us to the secondary. Starting cornerbacks Antoine Winfield and Cedric Griffin combined for 1 interception last season. And considering all those highlight reel plays where the lineman intercepts the ball and stumbles in for a touchdown, you would assume a cornerback could maybe scrape together three or four. This defensive unit will pile up the sacks and prevent the run, however, any team with a solid passing game will torch the aging secondary. As for the offense, they added wide receiver Bernard Berrian who is a solid number two receiver and a deep threat. The problem is Berrian joins a cast of underachieving wide receivers and will need to step up as the number one go-to guy. Even if Berrian beats his man and runs a perfect route, Tavaris Jackson still has to get him the ball. O poor Tavaris, he was among the worst quarterbacks in the league last year. He threw just 9 touchdowns and 12 picks in 12 games. He doesn’t have the best arm and struggles with his accuracy; in other words, he is not going to lead an average team to the playoffs, much less the Superbowl. The Doc may have gotten carried away with Adrian Peterson’s breakout rookie campaign (which was impressive) and decided that Minnesota was capable of winning the Lombardi trophy.

Dr. Z had a long list of contenders to choose from around the NFL. Cowboys, Patriots, Giants, Colts, Chargers, and Jaguars all have a shot to play in Tampa Bay next February. However he landed on the Vikings is beyond me. It’s almost like he stole the “Jump to Conclusions” rug from Office Space and made his own NFL edition. The Pats have a cupcake schedule that is almost guaranteeing 13 wins. The Cowboys went out and acquired Zach Thomas and Pacman Jones to an already star-studded defensive unit. The Colts are in the thick of things every season and God forbid anything happen to the Patriots, they are the shoe-in to represent the AFC. Repeating is difficult to do in this era (unless you’re New England) for any major sport. The Giants have had a rough off-season, first Michae Strahan quits/retires (same thing), Plaxico Burress has been whining about his contract and will continue to do so until it is resolved. And there is a big question mark surrounding Jeremy Shockey. Let’s not forget the Giants didn’t start playing well until Jshock broke his leg. So let’s dismiss the Giants’ chances of repeating right here and now. In my opinion there is one team to beat out there.

Prediction: Patriots win Superbowl XLIII
