Red Sox Interested In Xavier Nady

"ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney tweets this afternoon that the Boston Red Sox are looking at right-handed hitting outfielders and utility men, such as Xavier Nady.

With the signing of Mike Cameron Monday, the Red Sox are simply looking for flexibility and insurance in case Cameron, 36, or the oft-injured J.D. Drew spend too much time on the disabled list (ESPN)."

I think this would be a good signing for the Sox. Nady has played 1st and OF before so it could give the Sox a little flexibility. Plus if he is really healthy he could be more of an impact player then Cameron. With Drew always hurt, Cameron getting up there in age, and questions about their current corner infielder I feel it would be a smart move to jump on this guy...

Nady To Have Tommy John Surgery

"Yankees outfielder Xavier Nady will have ligament replacement surgery on his right elbow after re-injuring it during a minor league rehab game. The Yankees announced Wednesday that Nady's second Tommy John operation will be done July 8. Nady also had the surgery in 2001. "I'm extremely disappointed for him because we thought we were going to get him back this month," manager Joe Girardi said. "He'll be back. Your heart goes out to him because it's a lot to deal with. The injury could also cost Nady a considerable amount of money because he can become a free agent after the season. On Tuesday, Nady saw Dr. Lewis Yocum and the news the Yankees received Wednesday was expected - Nady needs another operation (Sportsline)."

Really sucks for Nady since he was due to be a free agent next year, and could have got a big contract if he had a solid season this year. Now he will be nothing more then an injury risk. This obviously hurts the Yankees depth, and they are really going to need guys like Swisher, Cabrera, and Gardner to step up for them over this season.

Nady Out For Year?

Certainly sounds like it after reading this...

New York Yankees outfielder Xavier Nady(notes) abruptly ended a rehab assignment when he experienced pain in his injured right elbow Thursday night according to a report in the New York Daily News. According to the Daily News, Nady made throws in the first and third inning, but he lifted himself before the team took the field in the fifth. General manager Brian Cashman spoke with Scranton manager Dave Miley to get the details, but Cashman hadn't spoken with Nady as the Yankees prepared to leave Atlanta.

"It's the thing you're trying to avoid," Cashman said. "It could be the worst-case scenario, but I haven't talked to X yet. We'll wait and see tomorrow, but obviously it's not a good sign (Yahoo)."

This is his 2nd set back and it sounds like he will now have to have the season ending surgery. It is really too bad he had a breakout year last season. Good thing the Yankees signed Swisher this offseason or they would be in trouble. This certainly still hurts the Yankees, but their main concern has to be their pitching and getting A-Rod back on his A-game.

Nady's Season Saved?

"Xavier Nady will try to rehab his elbow injury without surgery, giving the New York Yankees right fielder a chance to return this season. Nady has a partial ligament tear in his right elbow and originally was told that he'd likely need a season-ending operation. But after additional tests and exams, doctors recommended a program of rest and strengthening exercises rather than Tommy John surgery, a procedure Nady had in 2001. "Obviously, I wanted to avoid surgery if possible. You've got to do what's right. I hope going this route ends up working out," he said (Sportsline)."

Every report leading up to this didn't think there was any shot that Nady was going to be able to avoid Tommy John surgery, but now it looks like there is a good amount of hope that he will be back by early June. I know Swisher has been playing well, but I still believe Nady is the much better player. There still has to be some worries about how healthy he will be, and if he will be able to come back at all, but this has to be good news for Yankees fans/fantasy owners who thought they had lost him for the year.

Well a toast to anyone who drafted Nick Swisher, not only is he on a tear, but now it looks like he will be getting everyday at-bats. I don't believe in Swisher, but you can't argue with how well he has been playing. It will be interesting to see how much the affects the Yankees, but I feel they have so much hitting (once gay-rod is back) that it won't hurt them too bad. This is really too bad for Nady who had a breakout year last season when he batted .304 with 25 HRs 97 RBIs, but as long as it fucks the Yankees I am happy.

Nady Beats Off Swisher, I Mean Beats Out Swisher... Sorry

Good thing the Yankees traded for Swisher. This should have been an obvious choice for any Yankees fan. Swisher sucks, he always has been and always will be. Last year he hit a pathetic .219 and nobody really wants that on a team. He is a shittier Austin Kearns and if I were the Yankees, I would trade him for a bag of balls. Nady is a quality all around player, and could be deceptively productive in that strong line-up. People are bringing up that Swisher is younger and has more potential, but in a win first, ask questions later system the Yankees got going, do you think he really fits the mold?
