Yankees One Step Closer To Signing Cliff Lee

"The winter meetings are less than a week away, and there are signs Cliff Lee will land with the Yankees once the baseball world gathers in Orlando, reports George King of the New York Post.

There have been conflicting reports whether the Yankees have offered Lee a six-year deal worth $140 million. If that is true, one AL executive said it will be enough to get it done. "At that money (the Rangers) are out of it. That leaves the Yankees," the executive tells King (ESPN)."

This blows for Red Sox fans as this will obviously give the Yankees the best pitching staff going into the 2011 season, but we have known he was going there since the middle of last season, so whatever. The question is what this could mean for the rest of the offseason. I actually think this will take the Yankees out of the races for players like Carl Crawford and Jayson Werth. This could help the Sox lower the price, but not by much as the Angels are rumored to be going hard after Crawford (and who the fuck wants Jayson Werth anyways).

As for the Rangers, most rumors suggest they will try to land Andy Pettitte, but I don't see them pulling that off, so their best option might be to pull off a trade for Zach Greinke.

Greinke Might Get Dealt, But Don't Get Excited Boston

There is a good chance that the Royals will deal Greinke, the problem is he has a list of 15 teams on his no-trade clause. It is rumored that all East Coast large market teams are on it (Boston, New York, Philly, ect).

First off you really don't want this guy on the big stage, because he has anxiety problems, and a screw loose. He has all the talent in the world, and if he could ever get some run support he could be put up some nice numbers, but he just isn't a fit for this market.

Teams that could be interested? Toronto, Baltimore, and if the Rangers fail to keep Lee around they really should go hard after him (there is also rumors they will make a run at Greinke regardless if they get Lee).

Greinke Wants Out Of KC

The Royals may have done a good job of building up their farm system, but Greinke wonders if they will make a difference by the time his contract expires after the 2012 season.

"There's no reason for me to get real excited about it," he said, "because the chance of more than one of them making a major impact by the time my contract is up is pretty slim."

Greinke has had an aggravating year. He isn't pitching as well as last year, adn even when he does his team can't get him any run support. Greinke has 2 years left on his deal, and what he is saying in his quote is 100% correct. Even if all the Royals prospects eventually workout, it won't be until his contract runs out. The Royals should serious consider dealing Greinke in the offseason, unless they can somehow sign him long term. The list of teams interest should be very long, and you would think KC could get a lot of prospects in return.

Random guess, but I say Texas would be a great fit.

Fraud Zack Greinke Wins Gay Cy Young

Zack Greinke winning the Cy Young is a travesty to humanity. He is a little pussy anxiety disorder bitch, who had a hell of a first half. We all know that King Felix Hernandez is the true winner of this award. King Felix was royally excellent on the mound, tying for the AL lead in wins and finishing first in BAA, quality start percentage (0.85) and win percentage (.792). Meanwhile Grienke had 16 wins and 9 losses. Felix had 1 more no decisions than Greinke and had a 3 more wins and 3 less losses. If you are just judging era and strike outs than Greinke. For the the complete pitcher and most dominant and most dominant against the best teams it's hands down Felix. I hope the MLB is happy they made little Zacky happy. Now die.

DP's Half Assed Cy Young Assessment

Basically this is a two person race but to appease the stupid Yankees fans I'll throw CC in.

Let's see you have Greinke, King Felix and CC.

Zach Grienke is 15-8 with a 2.08 and 229 Ks

Felix Hernandez is 17-5 with a 2.49 era and 207 Ks

CC Sabathia is 18-7 with a 3.31 era and 186 Ks

The only way I'd give the award is to Zack Greinke is if his era somehow dips below 2. But in my world where I wear Felix Hernandez sunglasses, I think Felix should and will win it. Felix not only has pitched phenomenally he has shut out the Yankees, Angels, and Red Sox ALL at home. That's pretty unbelievable. Also, even though his era is slightly higher than Zack, he has more wins, less losses and just all around way cooler of a person. CC is fat and doesn't deserve anything.

Zack Greinke Finally Allows A Run

For those of you who drafted Zack Greinke...good for you. This kid has had all the talent in the world, but a social anxiety disorder really was fucking with his head. He has gotten passed that, and now we are seeing all that talent that scouts were drooling over for year. You have to remember this kid is still only 25 years old! So far this season he is 5-0 and his ERA went from 0.00 to 0.50 with the run he allowed. Greinke also leads the AL in strikeouts. It is way too early to be picking Cy Youngs, but who can argue against this kid right now. I really like the Royals this year, and with Meche and Greinke it seems like they are really in line to make a playoff run this year...So much for him never living up to his potential..eh DP?

Greinke Gets 4 Year Deal

Right-hander Zack Greinke and the Kansas City Royals have agreed to a four-year contract that avoided a salary arbitration hearing next month.

Greinke had an alright year on a bad Royals team(Greinke went 13-10 with a 3.47 ERA in 32 starts for Kansas City last season, setting career highs in strikeouts (183) and innings (202 1/3), but I don't buy it. This guy sucks and is going to suck for a while, he reminds me exactly of Casey Fossum and the Royals would be foolish not to deal him when his stock is "high". Greinke was supposed to be the next big thing, however, he has never lived up to potential and never will.
