Yankees Sign Andruw Jones

"Fifteen years after he put on an eye-popping October show in the first game he ever played in Yankee Stadium, outfielder Andruw Jones agreed to a one-year, $2 million contract with the Yankees on Thursday, sources confirmed to ESPN.com.

He also can earn an additional $1.2 million in incentives. Jones will earn $150,000 each for 250 and 275 plate appearances, $200,000 apiece for 300 and 325, and $250,000 each for 350 and 375, a person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press (ESPN)."

It has been a long time since Andruw Jones has been a great offensive weapon, but he still is a very good defensive player, and can play all three outfield positions. He is a great fit as a utility player, and as long as people don't expect much offensively he should be fine. Also, you could see his power numbers go up a bit, since he is playing at HR happy Yankee Stadium.

I wonder if Cashman sat on the sidelines for this one too?

Andruw Jones To Be Cut?

There are reports coming out that the Rangers are going to send Andruw Jones down to the minors. Marlon Byrd seems to be healthy, and playing well, so the Rangers have no room for Jones. DP and I both thought that he might be able to do some damage this year, but it is looking more and more like he is really all done.

All the signs are pointing to him being sent down, since he has not appeared in the last 3 games for the Rangers. If he is sent down he has the option to opt out of his contract, but as we saw before there is not that many teams that are interested in him. You have to wonder if he was on steroids with how fast and drastically he fell apart.

Andruw Jones Now A Ranger

One thing is for sure, I am taking a chance on Jones late in my draft. Jones has been a thorough disappointment the past couple of years and has nothing but a waste of life. However, I have faith the boy can still play. Arlington is a perfect place for hitters to thrive in, and I don't think it is outrageous to think that Jones may get a shot on a terrible Rangers team. I doubt he will regain form or even hit above .250, but with nothing to lose the Rangers made the right decision taking a chance on him.

Dodgers Release Andruw Jones

Yesterday the Dodgers released Andruw Jones after he had a terrible year. Last year Jones batted .158 with three home runs and 14 RBI in 75 games. He signed a huge contract with them last year and it just didn't pan out. The Dodgers still owe him around 22 million dollars that he will be paid over the next six years. The media speculates that the Braves might be interested in the struggling Jones, but I don't see how any team would be interested in this guy. Andruw Jones was a great player on offense and defense, and now that he has gotten older both have decreased significantly.

Andruw Jones To Mets?

There are rumors circulating that Andruw Jones may be traded to the Mets in exchange for prospects. The report also states that the Dodgers will have to eat most of Jones contract. I still wouldn't do this deal if I was the Mets. Jones sucks (.158 BA last year), and he is looking like he will never find his stride again. I wouldn't trade Julio Lugo for Andruw Jones, and I would trade Lugo for a sack of balls. For Mets fan's sake I hope this isn't true, but the Mets know how to choke, and make bad deal, which makes me tend to believe the reports.

BTW - I hate the way he spells ANDRUW!
