Beltran Too Pricey For Sox

I don't get the hub bub surrounding The Mole. He's good, and people are crowning him the best offensive trading peace on the market, but I just don't think there is much difference between him and Josh Reddick. Reddick has been playing out of his mind recently and will eventually slow down. But Beltran won't be that much of a factor to get us over the hump.

The Mets are asking for one of our elite prospects for Beltran. Which probably means Inglesies, Kalish, Reddick, Lavernwhatever or Raunado, so I agree with the Red Sox for bowing out of the sweepstakes.

Plus like I have been saying, I don't want that Mole on my team.

....this is a stupid fucking post, I hate Carlos Beltran and his mole is gross.

Fuck It, Trade For Jose Reyes

I'm reading it would take Jose Inglesis, Felix Doubront, Josh Reddick and Ryan Lavarnway (Sox catcher of the future) for a deal involving Jose Reyes. None of those guys I'm sold on. And even if we can trade for him in hopes that we re sign him in the offseason you do it.

The pessimists would say, he'd leave in the offseason to free agency, we would have to pay another 100+ million dollar deal, he's injury prone, we would have 3 leadoff hitters (Ellsbury and Crawford would be the other 2) blah, blah, blah, if there is a chance you could get arguably the best SS in the league you jump at it.

I don't care if all of those guys turn into future all-stars, winning a title this year is worth it 100 percent. I know this could be a pipe dream, but if this is what it takes takes, Theo push the button.

I DO NOT WANT CARLOS BELTRAN ANYMORE

HOLY MOLEY!

I entertained the idea of Carlos Beltran on the Sox. I thought he would be a good addition but check that fucking mole out, it's disgusting. I would not want to have to pretend that thing wasn't taking up 70% of his face. It's gross, I will gladly put up with JD Drew and D Mac than have to deal with that.

I don't know about you guys but a couple things in life freak me out, ketchup, the feel of nylons and fucking big disgusting moles. I bet it has little hairs coming out of it too.... Why doesn't he just remove that shit, I'm sure it can't be healthy.

Fuck, how did I not notice that before.

Brewers Get K Rod

"Brewers had acquired Francisco Rodriguez and cash considerations from the New York Mets in exchange for two players to be named later. By rule, the two players must be agreed upon within six months of the transaction." ESPN

Hey, you got to give it to the Mets for getting something for K Rod. K Rod hasn't been bad for the Mets by any means, he has a 3.16 era and 23 saves, but he gets paid too much and has a player option for 17 million next year. Also, he has been quite a headache and I don't trust him to keep being dominant with his velocity going down every year.

He is most likely going to close for the Brewers, even though they have John Axford, who has a 2.83 ERA while converting 23 of 25 save opportunities. But the Brewers as a team have blown 14 saves this year.

Beltran An Option For Red Sox RF Woes?

Carlos Beltran has long been rumored as someone the Sox could go after at the deadline. The Mets will look to move him, because he is a free agent at the end of the year is still owed $6MM by the time the trade deadline rolls around. I keep going back and forth on this. For one the Mets would have to each some of that money for the Sox to even take a look, on top of that what would the Sox have to give up for a 1/2 season of service?

From a baseball standpoint Beltran could bring a lot. He is a good fielder, and gives you a much better option in the lineup then JD Drew. Beltran is having a nice year for himself (.285 13 HRs 57 RBIs). What is also interesting that he is a type A free agent, so if the Sox got him they could get a 1st round pick as compensation if they didn't resign him.

I still this Cuddyer is more likely, and the most likely scenario is that they will do nothing, but it's something to at least keep an eye on.

Rangers Going After K-Rod/Beltran?

According to sources the Texas Rangers are interested in Mets veterans Carlos Beltran and Francisco Rodriguez. Beltran to me makes sense. He can play CF, and would add just another solid bat in an already potent lineup. K-Rod though is on borrowed time, and is only a couple more appearances from kicking in his 2012 option which is worth $17.5MM. Obviously, in a deal for either the Mets would need to eat a lot of money, but to me trading for Beltran just makes a lot more sense. He is having a decent year (.278 BA, 10 HRs, 49 RBIs), while K-Rod has an ERA over 11.00 through the month of June. We have been hearing for years that his velocity had been dropping, and that might finally be catching up to him.

Fred Wilpon Has Something To Say

So the Mets owner Fred Wilpon had some things to say about some of the players he has right now, mainly Jose Reyes, Carlos Beltran and David Wright, here they are:

• Shortstop Jose Reyes will not be getting a super-huge contract from the Mets. "He thinks he's going to get Carl Crawford money," Wilpon said, referring to Crawford's seven-year, $142 million contract with the Boston Red Sox. "He's had everything wrong with him. He won't get it."

• On right fielder Carlos Beltran, Wilpon refers to Beltran's huge postseason with the Houston Astros in 2004 and says: "We had some schmuck in New York who paid him based on that one series. He's sixty-five to seventy percent of what he was."

• About David Wright: "Really good kid. A very good player. Not a superstar."

• On whether the franchise might be snakebit, Wilpon makes another pointed Beltran reference. Author Jeffrey Toobin writes: "At one point, I mentioned to Wilpon the theory that the Mets might be cursed. He gave a sort of half laugh, and said, 'You mean' -- and then pantomimed a checked swing of the bat. Any Mets fan (I am one) would understand the reference. The Mets took the 2006 National League Championship Series to a seventh game against the Cardinals."

Wilpon apparently does like first baseman Ike Davis. "Good hitter," Wilpon says. "[Word for poop] team. Good hitter. ...We're snakebitten, baby."

Well.... this certainly isn't going to get our players to play harder for you. Figuring the Mets are getting sued for a billion dollars because they had a hand in the Bernie Madoff ponzi scheme, I would try to deflect my hate talk of his own team and make it more about building for a great future. This is one of the most unprofessional things I have ever heard and if I were Jose Reyes, Calros Beltran and David Wright I would be strongly asking for a trade. It's bad enough that soon your job won't be able to pay you, but for your boss to be bad mouthing you on top of it is just a toxic work environment.

MLB Preview: New York Mets

2010 Record: 79-83
Offense:
Projected Lineup

SS Jose Reyes
CF Angel Pagan
3B David Wright
RF Carlos Beltran
LF Jason Bay
1B Ike Davis
C Josh Thole
2B Brad Emaus

The New York Debts, I mean Mets are probably going for the last ride with a couple of familiar faces with Jose Reyes and Carlos Beltran being free agents after this year. Though it does all start with Jose Reyes, if he can get on base they should be able to find a way to knock him in. David Wright will be fine and Jason Bay needs to start acting like he's in Boston again. New York also needs improvement from guys like Angel Pagan and Ike Davis, who both did a hell of a job last year. Davis belted 19 home runs with 71 RBIs in his first full season as a starter, and Pagan had a career-year hitting .290 with 37 stolen bases. On paper they should be fine, but with the Mets everything is on paper.

Pitching:
Projected Rotation

RHP Mike Pelfrey
LHP Jon Niese
RHP R.A. Dickey
LHP Chris Capuano
RHP Chris Young
Bullpen Keys

RHP Francisco Rodriguez (closer)
RHP Bobby Parnell (setup)

The Mets rotation took a huge hit with the injury to their best starter, Johan Santana, and not having him for most of this season figures to really hurt their chances. With loss of Johan, The Mets need big seasons out of guys like R.A. Dickey and Mike Pelfrey, who figure to lead a rotation but that's kinda gross. Pelfrey went 15-9 with a 3.66 ERA last season, while Dickey went 11-9 with a very good 2.84 ERA, but I don't see it. K -Rod is a good reliever if he's not beating people up.

Overall:
The Mets are going to have a tough time without Johan or if they go into bankruptcy. With the Phillies in the division their is no way they make the playoffs.

Mets Sign Chris Young

"The Mets agreed to sign Chris Young to a one-year deal, according to Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com. The deal is pending a physical. That could be more than a formality for Young, who missed most of last season with a shoulder strain before pitching in September (MLBTradeRumors)."

I guess this is one of the signing where you just hope for the best, because injuries have limited Young to just 36 starts in the past three seasons. He kind of reminds me of Rich Harden, because they both have big names for really no reason.

Young will join Mike Pelfrey, Jon Niese, R.A. Dickey and Chris Capuano in the team's rotation if the pitchers remain healthy this spring. Johan Santana should join the group midway through the season.

Translation: It's going to be another long year for the Mets.

Beltran To Red Sox Rumors Are Back (UPDATED)

"Newsday's David Lennon says a deal between the Red Sox and Mets has gained some traction. While a trade is still a long shot, Mets GM Sandy Alderson is not averse to eating salary to move him. Lennon also speculates on a Daisuke Matsuzaka-Beltran swap, as the two are owed nearly the same amount of money ($20MM vs. $18.5MM, respectively). Matsuzaka would need to waive his no-trade clause to facilitate such a deal (MLBTradeRumors)."

There are only 2 ways I can see this happening. The first is that the Mets eat at least half of his salary. The other way is the Sox sending Dice-K to the Mets for Beltran, and then the Sox turn around and sign Cliff Lee. I can't see the Sox trading Dice-K without getting another starting pitcher (and a good one at that) with the problems they had with their starting rotation last year. Both these scenarios seem a little far fetched, but something to keep an eye on especially since there is a mystery team that is rumored to have offered Cliff Lee a 7 year deal (and it wasn't the Yankees).

***UPDATE***

There were rumors that the Red Sox could be interested in Beltran, but Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com cites a Mets source who says: "It's all the same. There's nothing (espn)."

Mets Not Bringing Back Minaya or Manuel?

Well this has been a long time coming. Rumors are that Omar Minaya and Jerry Manuel will not bring them back to the Mets.

Manuel and general manager Omar Minaya have appointments to meet with chief operating officer Jeff Wilpon on Monday to officially be told their fates.

Finally, here are some Minaya Signings:
Worst Big Money Signings:
1. Oliver Perez: Three years, $36 million on Feb. 2, 2009. This one has been amply covered.

2. Luis Castillo: Four years, $25 million on Nov. 19, 2007. Orlando Hudson would have been a free agent one year later and wanted to be a Met. Hudson would have been a free agent two years later, too.

3. Fransisco Rodriguez: Three years, $37 million on Dec. 9, 2008. The Mets originally were so proud of this deal, but there is this little kicker: If K-Rod finishes 55 games next season, his contract will vest for 2012 at a crippling $17.5 million. Oh, and then there is the whole character-issue thing.

Jury is still out on Jason Bay.

I mean he has been awful. And Jerry Manuel hasn't helped much. The Mets need a new look and there are some possible trades that could change their outlook.

K-Rod In Even More Trouble

Just when you thought things couldn't get much worse for New York Mets closer Francisco Rodriguez this happens...

"New York Mets closer Francisco Rodriguez faces more charges in his New York City assault case. Authorities said in court Tuesday that Rodriguez violated an order of protection by sending his girlfriend 56 text messages apologizing and urging a resolution. They said he'll now be charged with criminal contempt (ESPN)."

K-Rod is accused of attacking his girlfriend's father outside a family lounge at Citi Field, and now he is going to have to deal with this in court too. His lawyer really needs to be giving him better advice, or he just needs to be smarter. Listen K-Rod, sending texts is not going to get you out trouble when you kick the shit out of an old man at your team's stadium.

How much worse can things get for the Mets?

Mets Witholding K-Rod's Salary

"The New York Mets are withholding injured closer Francisco Rodriguez's salary while he's sidelined, and the team wants to convert his contract to a non-guaranteed deal. The moves could be a prelude to the Mets releasing the star closer without paying most of his 2011 salary (CBS)."

Good for the Mets. They had to do this. This guy is completely out of control, and he doesn't deserve to make a penny from the contract he signed. The Union is obviously go to fight this, but I actually think the Mets have a decent shot at being able to at the very least get some money back. K-Rod got hurt in an off the field problem, and with the fight being involved in an MLB stadium I would think that they would want to send a message. Regardless of the outcome the Mets had to do this.

K Rod Is An Asshole

New York Mets closer Francisco Rodriguez suffered a torn ligament in his right thumb while allegedly striking the grandfather of his children last week at Citi Field, a team official said, and he is done for the season. ESPN

If I were the Mets I would do everything in my power to void his contract immediately. Despite what his stats show he blows, he loses velocity every year, he was on a save happy team in Anaheim based on the shittyness of their division, and most importantly he's an asshole. He put the Mets season in more jeopardy (giggle) with this bone head move. K Rod hasn't been a model citizen since coming to NY and I don't think he will learn either purely based on his bad temper. The best thing for the Mets to do this offseason would to get rid of Omar Minaya, Jerry Manuel, Carlos Beltran, Jason Bay, Johan Santana, K Rod and Jose Reyes. It doesn't work, for the exception of Johan all these players have been overwhelming busts and they make me want to vomit. I used to think this was funny when the Mets would blow division leads in August, but now its almost sad. It's like watching the Knicks with Isiah.

LeBron Causing K Rod To Beat Up His Family Members?

Francisco Rodriguez was charged with third-degree assault, a misdemeanor, after an altercation with his father-in-law at Citi Field.

Rodriguez was arrested and being held at the ballpark early Thursday, police said. His father-in-law was in a hospital with a scrape on his face and a bump on his head. ESPN

I didn't realize it but this is the third altercation K Rod has got in since joining the Mets. I don't know what stemmed this fight, but obviously K Rod needs to handle the situation. The Mets have been falling out of playoff contention again, so this is maybe why K Rod's frustration boiled over or it could be that LeBron hosted "The Decision". The Mets have had zero good news in about 4 years and this certainly will be part of the laundry list that will get Omar Minaya and Jerry Manuel fired this offseason. But knowing the Mets they will probably hire Isiah Thomas to run the team.

Good Thing The Sox Didn't Resign That Bay Guy

Former Red Sox left fielder Jason Bay continues to struggle in New York, and the Mets sat down their prized free agent Thursday night as they were shut out by the Dodgers for their seventh loss in the eighth game of their disastrous 11-game road trip. Bay is batting .169 in July and has six home runs on the season.

I knew it was a mistake for him to go to the Mets, but I didn't think he would be this bad. Bay made a huge mistake not staying with the Sox. Fenway inflated his numbers, and now we are starting to see that Bay is not nearly as good as advertised. Then again, maybe it's just the curse of playing for the Mets. I would take less money and play for someone else instead of playing biggest choke job franchise in all of sports.

Latest On Cliff Lee

Cliff Lee rumors are flying around the internet. It is not a matter of "if" just "when" Cliff Lee will be traded. Right now there are 7 teams that are rumored to have interest (Twins, Mets, Yankees, Rangers, Phillies, Tigers, and Rays). The hottest rumor going around today would be Lee going to the Rays in a deal that would include Upton. I think this is a great deal for the Rays. Upton fucking blows, and you add a guy like Lee to this rotation, and it would be flat out amazing.

During this week the frontrunners were thought to be the Twins, as they have been rumored to have offered some very good prospects. Yet, I am still not buying this. The Twins don't like giving away prospects, and I just don't see Lee in the Twins uniform.

To me the Mets, Phillies, Yankees, and Rays make the most sense. This is a story that will develop quickly, and I expect him to be dealt just after the All-Star break.

Carmona To Mets?

There is an interesting rumor going around today that the Mets might try to make a move for Carmona. I think this would be a great deal for the Mets, but I don't see it happening. For one, the Mets have stated that they are very unlikely to trade away their best prospect (Wilmer Flores). Another problem is that Carmona will be tough to get away the Indians, such he has such team friendly options in his deal. Carmona is earning $4.9 million this year and will get $6.1 million in 2011, and then he has 3 option years for 2012 ($7 million), 2013 ($9 million) and 2014 ($12 million). If Carmona continues to pitch well he certainly is worth those salaries.

I don't think the deal will happen, but I do think Carmona would be very good in the NL, and this should be the kind of player that the Mets should be trying to get their hands on.

Also, don't be surprised if you start hearing other teams rumored to be going after Carmona, such as the Dodgers, Rangers, and Phillies.

Vazquez Already On His Way Out Of NY?

He very well could be, but he also might just join the team down the street. There are rumors going around today that the Yankees are already trying to get Javier Vazquez out of pinstripes, and if that is true the Mets are rumored to be one of the team that would be very interested.

This whole thing is comical to me, because how did the Yankees not see this coming? I mean, they have already been down this road. It would be like the Red Sox falling for Colon again (or Renteria) again. Anyways, I don't think it is just that he can't pitch for the Yankees, since some of the reports I have read have said that he has lost 2-3 MPH on his fastball.

Even if it is the pressure of playing for the Yankees, would it really help to send him to go to the Mets? They have a fan base that would be all over him if he started off on the wrong foot. Javier Vazquez best chance is to go to a small market team, because it is becoming obvious he just can handle the pressure.

MLB Previews: New York Mets

Line up
* SS Jose Reyes
* CF Angel Pagan
* 3B David Wright
* LF Jason Bay
* 1B Daniel Murphy
* RF Jeff Francoeur
* C Rod Barajas
* 2B Luis Castillo

The offense was awful last year. They couldn't get anything going, but with the addition of Bay and Carlos Beltran and Jose Reyes returning (maybe) that should help out a lot. On paper this looks like a good line-up especially for the NL, but the Mets are the definition of paper champions.

Rotation:
* LHP Johan Santana
* RHP Mike Pelfrey
* RHP John Maine
* LHP Oliver Perez
* RHP Fernando Nieve
K-Rod Closer

How could they do this again? They forgot about starting pitchers. Behind Johan this team makes me want to throw up on the nearest toddler. I have no faith in Mike Pelfrey, and John Maine. Oliver Perez is far too inconsistent, and who the fuck is Fernando Nieve? This like every year will be the downfall of the Mets especially when Johan gets hurt.

Overall:

They probably will start really strong and then collapse to be around .500 like every year. Their offense has improved a lot with the power bat of Bay, but the pitching has far too many questions to look past.

84-78
