Red Sox Considering Mark DeRosa?

"With the recent news that the Boston Red Sox have asked second baseman Dustin Pedroia if he could play shortstop in 2010 -- and Pedroia loving the idea -- the club may be expanding their infield search to include second-base candidates. Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald tweeted this morning that Mark DeRosa is now among those being considered by the Sox, adding fuel to the possibility of Pedroia sliding to shortstop. Boston has also been connected to Adam Everett and Marco Scutaro, and if second baseman are in their sights, perhaps Orlando Hudson, who was not offered arbitration by the Dodgers, becomes a possibility (ESPN)."

If the Sox decided to move Pedroia to SS then I love this for the Sox. DeRosa would give Boston another 20+ HR hitter to their lineup, which is never a bad thing. A source I am reading is saying that this is true and the Sox have actually contacted him, so maybe all this Pedroia stuff is not just some writer's bullshit. We'll keep you posted...

DeRosa to Cardinals?

"Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak is looking for a third baseman and gave every indication on Monday that he would welcome Mark DeRosa. The Cardinals need a third baseman because Troy Glaus has shoulder ligament damage and is not expected to return until mid-July or early August. Anthony Castrovince of MLB.com reported that Mozeliak is looking for a right-handed bat who can play third base until Glaus returns, at which point he would move somewhere elsewhere in the field (ESPN)."

With Jhonny Peralta moved to 3rd base the Indians have a lot less need for Mark DeRosa. it also looks like the Indians season was over before it started, so they will most likely be looking to dump payroll, and acquire some prospects. I expect DeRosa to be traded by the trade deadline and right now the Cardinals look like a perfect fit...

Indians Fire Sale Coming?

The Indians have once again started poorly (14-26) and are currently in last place in the AL Central. The question now becomes whether or not they will blow up this team and try to rebuild. There are certainly guys that other teams will have a lot of interest in. Some of the rumors have been...Boston reportedly is interested in Victor Martinez to shoulder the offensive load because of a slumping David Ortiz. It's been speculated that the Mets also may go after Mark DeRosa to help replace injured first baseman Carlos Delgado. Cliff Lee, last year's Cy Young winner, is said to be on several contenders' wish list.

I think there is a good chance that some of this will happen. I still don't believe V-Mart is coming to Boston, because I think the asking price is going to be too high (though I would love to see it). DeRosa, and Less I do believe will be traded. Lee is a guy that the Indians could trade get a lot of nice prospects for. I know he won the Cy Young last year, but I still have no faith in that guy. Anyways should be interesting to see what the Indians do if they are not able to turn this season around.

Cubs Trade DeRosa To Indians

"The Indians didn't have the money to fill their infield with an attractive free-agent candidate, but they did have the arms in their farm system to pull off an impactful trade. The Tribe acquired infielder Mark DeRosa from the Cubs in a New Year's Eve swap that sends Minor League right-handers Jeff Stevens and Chris Archer and left-hander John Gaub to the Cubs. With that, the Indians have filled the glaring hole in their infield with a versatile defender and productive bat (MLB.com)."

I like this trade for the Indians, since they could use another bat, and it could solidify their infield. I don't know much about the pitching prospects that they gave up, but from what I have read none of them seem to be top tier prospects. DeRosa is coming off a career year in which batted .285 with 30 doubles, three triples, 21 homers and 87 RBIs in 149 games. He notched career-highs in on-base percentage (.376), homers, RBIs, walks (69) and runs scored (103). I don't know if he will be able to keep up those kinds of numbers, but I don't think he will be too far off. Most likely he will play 3rd so that they Indians don't have to move around their infield.

MLB Rumors

One of the top prospects int he free agent market is starter Derek Lowe. The Phillies have expressed interest in Lowe. but Lowe is looking for that long term deal that the Phillies arent really interested in giving out.

Also, The Phils are also currently in the works for a 3 way trade with the Cubs and Padres. Reports had Philadelphia interested in Cubs outfielder/second baseman Mark DeRosa and the Padres excited about a group of Phillies prospects. The Cubs would inherit the remaining four guaranteed years at $63 million left on Peavy's contract, but to do so, they also want to deal right-hander Jason Marquis, who's owned $9.9 million in 2009.

Its always about pitching, I know that. but i would love it if the Phillies got DeRosa. He might be needed if Utley is slow returning from hip surgery, and he can also platoon in the outfield after Burrell leaves, which he all but certain to do. \


On the other hand, the World Champions cant hope to make it back to the WS without starting pitching, and currently they are in a stand still with the ageless wonder Jamie Moyer...who seems to think hes worth about 7 mil a year for the next 3. Furthermore when asked about the Mets signing of K-Rod the Phillies new GM Ruban Amaro Jr said that they wont be making reactionary trades or signings based on that move.
