Millar Back With The Red Sox

Well kind of... Kevin Millar will join NESN as an analyst. This is funny because Millar really never wanted to leave. He knows the only reason he is popular is because of Boston, and why not return to the city that loves you. I was a big Millar fan, and I know a lot of people hate him, but he could be a good guy to have on NESN. He could be their "Charles Barkley" or something, and just make bold claims. Anyways, I think it is fucking awesome, and it makes my Kevin Millar jersey just that much more awesome.

Orsillo To Work TBS Playoff Games

"For those of you looking for your Don Orsillo fix past Sunday's regular season Sox finale, the veteran announcer will call a yet-to-be-announced League Division Series for TBS, joined by former ML catcher Buck Martinez. This is Orsillo's third year working for TBS in their playoff coverage. It is uncertain who will call the Red Sox-Angels series, but the candidates are -- Dick Stockton and Bob Brenly, Orsillo and Martinez, Milwaukee Brewers play-by-play man Brian Anderson and Joe Simpson or Chip Caray and Ron Darling.

NESN baseball analyst Dennis Eckersley will work in the TBS studio with Ernie Johnson, Cal Ripken and former Sox pitcher David Wells. Yes, he actually pitched 38 games with Boston in 2005 and '06 (Boston.com)."

A couple years back I really didn't like Orsillo, but he has grown on me. When you listen to some of the other broadcasters around the league you realize how lucky we are. Orsillo, Remy, and Eck are some of the best in the game, and to see two of them make the playoff broadcast is awesome...

Remy Back Tomorrow

"Jerry Remy, the popular color analyst on NESN’s Red Sox telecasts, will return to the booth tomorrow when the club begins a series against the Yankees at Fenway Park. Remy has been on an extended leave of absence since early May as he recuperates from the effects of lung cancer surgery (Boston.com)."

I am glad everything seems to be going well for Remy. The cancer wasn't his biggest problem it was the depression that followed that delayed his return for this long. He will not be back full time yet, and will continue to split time with Dennis Eckersley and Dave Roberts (Roberts is terrible). Long term I would actually like to see them go with 3 guys in the booth. I think Eck should be kept long term. He does a great job analyzing the pitchers, and you add that with Remy's knowledge of hitters, and I think you got the best color guys in the game. It's just a thought, but that's what I would do.

Remy Looks Good In Return To Fenway

Remy looked good last night in his first return to Fenway since leaving with lung cancer. He was very open and honest, and said that he really hasn't been watching the Sox game on TV, because it makes him depressed thinking he should be at work. Eck has done a hell of a job, and may even be better then Remy, but to be honest I think they should go with a 3 team crew for NESN next season. Eck is all about pitching, and Remy knows his shit about hitting, so I think it would be a great combo. Anyways, it was good to see that he is alive, and seems to be improving. There is still no word on when he might return.

Ortiz To Talk About Steroids (Or Not)

"According to a report on NESN.com, Red Sox slugger David Ortiz, who has been reluctant to speak about last week's New York Times report, claiming that he is among the list of 104 players to test positive for Performance-Enhancing Drugs in 2003, will speak in New York this afternoon. Today at 3:30 p.m., Big Papi will finally be speaking out about the report. Coverage will air live on NESN (Boston.com)."

Despite earlier reports and rumors to the contrary, it appears David Ortiz will not address reporters tonight about his inclusion on the list of 104 players to have tested positve for performance-enhancing drugs in 2003.

Ortiz told WEEI.com's Rob Bradford that he would not be speaking about that topic tonight in New York, where the Red Sox are kicking off a four-game series against the Yankees.

The struggling New York Times Co. is actively seeking a buyer for it's stake in aforementioned holding company in order to shore up its own cash position. For clarity's sake, the Times owns the Boston Globe which owns the stake in NESV. The Times has not specified whether or not they intend to sell the Globe with the Sox stake.

Barclays Capital has assigned a value of roughly 166 million to the stake in NESV so the Times will likely have trouble getting what they would like. As a separate entity, the Globe has an estimated value of 20 million.

As a funny aside, a couple of local millionaires approached the Times a few years back looking to purchase the Globe and the NESV stake for some 600 million. That's more than 3 times what the pair could fetch now. Talk about epic fail on the Times behalf.
