DP's Thoughts On Randy Moss

I'm not going to sit here and fondle Randy Moss's sack like BMack did yesterday. Randy Moss retiring is just another case of him being in asshole and a diva. He may have all of the accolades and stats, but the guy is a straight asshole. He basically retired because the 2 teams he wanted to go to the Jets and Patriots took care of their wide receiver issues.

Let's be honest here Randy, you're not retired and you're doing this to be a baby. Randy would come out of retirement today if the Washington Redskins offered him a 2 year, 10 million dollar deal.

People shouldn't look at his legacy as a Hall of Famer, they should look at his career as a giant let down and waste of talent. He has great numbers but imagine all his numbers if he was motivated and didn't quit on every team he played for. He would still be on the Patriots this year if he just kept his mouth shut and played. He would probably have a 3 year deal if he didn't quit on the 3 teams he played for last year, and the fact he was expecting a 3 year deal is head scratching too.

I can't stand you Randy and you are no better than all the other media whore, attention grabbing players.

Breaking News: Randy Moss Retires

Randy Moss has decided to retire, and I couldn't be happier. I didn't want to see him go to the Jets, and to be honest I just didn't want to see him on another team other then the Patriots. I know he left on terrible terms, but that year when him and Brady broke seemingly broke every record was incredible and I will always remember it.

We will always look at Moss and think what might have been if his head was screwed on right, but even with his stupid ways he is a Hall of Famer and one of the best WRs I have ever seen.

Good luck to you Randy.

Carson Palmer Retires

Palmer has said all along that if the Bengals don't trade or release him he would retire. I guess he wasn't kidding...

"I honesty like Carson Palmer. He was a splendid player for us," Brown said, via Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer. "He is a good person. I wish him well and he has retired. That is his choice."

"I'm not expecting him to be back. Carson signed a contract, he made a commitment," Brown continued. "He gave us his word. We relied on his word and his commitment. We expected him to perform here. If he is going to walk away from his commitment we aren’t going to reward him for doing it."

Does Bengals owner Mike Brown have the right stance? In a way yes. Palmer signed a contract and he is trying to walk away from that. So, yes he is right for basically not allowing him to do so. That being said, the Bengals now get nothing for Palmer. How is that better?

With so many teams needing QB's (Vikings, Dolphins, Seahawks, Cardinals, just to name a few) the Bengals probably could've got a pretty good return for Palmer. Now, they get nothing, and it will just take the process of being good again even longer (can you even say "again" with the Bengals?), which is just sad for this franchise and their fans.

So while I do think what Palmer is doing is fundamentally wrong (though I can't blame him), getting nothing in return is the worst way for this to end for the Bengals.

Yao Officially Retiring Tomorrow

It's a shame that injuries forced Yao Ming's hand into retiring. It also sucks that Yao Ming's career will be surrounded by "ifs". He is 7-foot-6, played eight seasons for Houston, but has missed 250 regular-season games over the past six years.

He was an 8 time all star, selected 1st by the Rockets in 2002, and averaged 19 points and 9 board a game. Unlike most big men he was a good mid range and free throw shooter as well. When he first came into the league it was awesome watching him play, some of the greatest games were watching him and Shaq play. But that Rockets team just seemed cursed, between him and Tracy McGrady, no one could stay on the court long enough to do damage, and that's why they could never get passed the 2nd round.

However, unlike many analysts, I don't believe he belongs in the Hall of Fame. He may have been an international icon, but he hasn't played enough. At the end of the day he will be another foreign born huge guy who's health got the best of him. I always rooted for him to come back and even this offseason I was thinking maybe the Celtics could get him on some type of Shaq like deal. Again it's a shame that at 30 he has to retire and his career has came down to "ifs".

Kerry Collins Retires

After 16 NFL seasons, Titans quarterback Kerry Collins has announced his retirement, and I couldn't be happier. I just never liked the guy. Maybe it's because I always thought that Vince Young should be starter, or maybe it was his time with the Giants, but whatever it was I always hated him. Also, he was so overrated, and was part of the worst Super Bowl game ever (Giants/Ravens). So fuck him.

Anyways, this could open the door for the Titans to bring in another veteran (Matt Hasselbeck?) to act as a mentor for Locker and buy the Titans some time to get him prepared.

It Has Begun....

NFL.com – Brett Favre hasn’t made any indication that he’s pondering a return for a 21st NFL season. Still, NFL.com senior analyst Gil Brandt remains confident the gunslinger might have one more comeback attempt in him. Brandt indicated during his Tuesday NFL.com chat that Favre could be interested in another season, and he elaborated on those thoughts Wednesday on NFL Network’s “NFL Total Access.” Brandt, who headed the Cowboys’ player personnel department for nearly three decades, said “quarterbacks never want to retire” and made reference to Roger Staubach, the former Dallas star whom Brandt joked probably still believes he can play. Brandt said pre-draft reports of Favre’s interest in mentoring No. 1 overall draft pick Cam Newton indicate the 41-year-old still has the bug to return… “Favre is enough of a competitor that if somebody said to him, ‘Come on, come on in, we can use you. You might not be a starter,’ I think he would come out of his retirement.”

The Ole Gunslinger is at it again and maybe coming out of retirement this year. This is no surprise as he went away last year for people to forget how much of an awful person he is and how bad he was in in Minnesota.

It would really piss me off if this assbag return because then I would have to hear about how tough he is and such a warrior for another year. Could he help out as a back up.... sure, but I don't think that's Brett Favre's style.

Your Yearly Iverson Comeback Story

God I am so sick of this story. Once again, Iverson is saying that he is coming back to the NBA. Yea sure, that's nice, but who the fuck wants him? I know there will be some douche that still think Iverson is good and will blast me for posting otherwise, but he was washed up years ago.

Last year he went to Turkey, and gave on that team as well after getting a calf injury. In his last two years in the NBA he played for 4 different teams. No one will want him, and certainly no one trusts him. Stop wasting everyone's time and just retire.

Shaq WILL Comeback Next Year

Have we seen the last of Shaq? I seriously doubt it after listening Shaq today...

"A little bit of both. Business-wise, I felt that the Boston organization and the people of Boston treated me very, very well. I could have gotten a little minor surgery and then been out for nine months, but then we would have been in the same situation again, everybody sitting around waiting for me. So, I thought it was great business to let Danny [Ainge] go out and get some younger talent."

Added O'Neal: "I didn't want to let the people of Boston down two years in a row."

Asked if he's 100 percent certain that he will stay retired, Shaq coyly replied: "For now, yes (WEEI)."

If that wasn't enough here is what Ainge had to say...

Celtics general manager Danny Ainge isn't sure if Shaq's done playing in the NBA.

"Oh, I don't know," Ainge told the Boston Herald. "I don't know. I would not say that. I mean, hopefully Shaq can get his body healthy and then reconsider."

Ainge then added, "I can tell you that even if he's still out when we start next year, he's a guy I'll be making a phone call to at some time during the season. But I believe what he's saying now is real (ESPN)."

Is it just me or does this sound like a perfect situation for a comeback?

Sit back and think about it. The Celtics are a top seed next year in the East. It's KG's Allen's, and Jermaine's last year with the Celtics. The last run for the old guys. Just before the playoffs start. Suddenly like a hurricane Big Old Shaq comes through the door to give them the final piece. One last time for an era that is ending. Playoffs start... Old vs. Young. Sounds like a movie right? Shaq loves movies. What a better way for him to go out, and trust me that's just how Shaq thinks (plus it sounds like Ainge is on board).

I just think with all the "not wanting to let down Boston again", and how he "really enjoyed his time here", listening to all of that makes me think he is coming back. Sure, you can point out that I bought into Sheed coming back, but there is a difference here. The Celtics LIKE Shaq.

Breaking News: Shaq Retires

"Shaquille O'Neal posted a video on Tout, which indicates that he is ready to retire after 19 years in the NBA. "We did it, 19 years baby," O'Neal said in the video. "I want to thank you very much. That's why I'm telling you first: I'm about to retire (WEEI)."

You can see the video HERE

Even though the injury fucked the Celtics I am still sad to see him go, and he would still be a bargin for $1 million if he was to come back. To me this makes it even more obvious the Celtics will go after a big man in the draft. At least Shaq isn't a douche got this over with quickly.

Shaq's Mom Says He's Coming Back

Speaking before an event in Louisiana, Shaquille O'Neal's mother Lucille said that her son may not be ready to retire yet.

“He went there to help them win a championship, and they didn’t do that this year,’’ his mother told the New Orleans Picayune. “It bothered him so much that he could not play. He felt like he let the Boston team down and the community down, so I could believe he’s going back to Boston. He’s not in a place to be traded or anything like that (WEEI).’’

Man even after the season is over we can't get away from these Shaq stories. I am not sure if I want him back or not. I love him and all, but I just don't think there is any shot that he can make it through a healthy season. Then again, you aren't going to find another center for only $1 million, so I guess it can't hurt to have him back.

End of the Line For Wakefield?

Wakefield has now gone into 2 seasons without a rotation spot, and although the Red Sox always need extra arms with guys like Beckett seemingly going down ever year, Wakefield might not even be the #6 guy anymore. Alfredo Aceves has been pitching very well, and he seems to fit the mold of coming out of the bullpen much better then Wakefield.

I love Wake, but I really think it is time they cut him loose. Even if he starts I don't at all feel confident that he will do well or even stay healthy. At this point in his career you can't stash him down in the minors, so what role does he fill. All he is at this stage of his career is a DL spot waiting to happen, and maybe a guy who can eat up innings if the Sox are up by 8 runs or down by 8 runs. That's it.

Love you Wake, but it is time for you to announce your retirement.

Kevin Faulk to Retire?

"Ian Rapoport of the Boston Herald caught up with New England Patriots veteran Kevin Faulk as the RB was visiting heart transplant patients at Brigham & Women's Hospital.

"I honestly don't know," Faulk admitted. "Like my wife tells me, 'You're giving me so many different scenarios, so many different feelings about coming back. You want to play, you don't want to play.' I still love the game of football. It's just a factor of how my body feels. I got to be real about that, I've been playing a long time. I've been fortunate enough. Is it time to let it go? Is it time to come back (ESPN)?"

Faulk is one of my favorite Patriot players of all-time and it would be sad to see him go, but I think it may be time. The Patriots seemed to have somewhat moved on when Woodhead ended up being a very affective 3rd down back. I am just not sure how they would fit Faulk back into their backfield plans. Plus, Faulk is saying his health is still only 75%, so at his age (35 in June) I just don't know if that knee is going to bounce back the way he wants it to.

I Love Donald Driver, But It's Time To Go

One of my favorite players in the NFL is Donald Driver. It is really hard not to like him. He has played forever, and somehow has always found a way to be productive, but his talents are on the decline. He just turned in his worst year since 2001, and now him sticking around is forcing more important players out the door...

"In a column for the Green Bay Press-Gazette, Mike Vandermause believes it's likely that James Jones has probably played his last game for the Green Bay Packers, that landing with a team where he'd have a chance to start makes sense."

James Jones loves the Packers, but he is not happy having to sit behind Driver anymore...

"My main thing going through all this is, do I want to be a starter in the National Football League? No question. Do I feel like I'm a starter? No question," Jones confirmed to reporters Monday night, per Jason Wilde of 540 ESPN Radio (Milwaukee). "I know we've got something great here. I mean, this team could win some championships for the next couple years. But at the same time, I do want to be a starter. I don't know if that's ever going to happen here with Donald [Driver] playing until he's 40 (ESPN)."

Driver is now 36 years old. He had a bunch of injuries last year, and I am sorry but this is near the end of the road. Meanwhile Jones is just 26 years old and has progressed each of the past 3 years. He did have some big drops in the playoffs, but this guy has the skill set to be a real force for a long time.

I love you Driver, I really do, but it's time to call it a career and what a better way to go out then the Super Bowl you just won?

The only other way is if the Packers can convince Driver to take his rightful place as a #3 or #4 option, and convince Jones that it will stay that way.

Tiki Barber Making A Comeback

"Barber's manager, Mark Lepselter, has informed the New York Post that his client's decision to attempt an NFL comeback was based upon "some overtures made to him recently." Lepselter would not divulge any more information on these "overtures (ESPN)."

Wow, I would've never have guessed this comeback, but apparently he has already filled out the paper work, and once there is a new CBA he will hit free agency. Tiki will be 36 in April, and I really doubt he has much left in the tank. I mean this guy hasn't play since 2006, so I really think this is asking a lot. Then again his last season he rushed for 1,662, and obviously will come in 100% healthy.

My guess is that a team brings him to camp, but then he gets cut, and either goes back to the booth or the UFL. That hasn't stopped Antonio Pierce from ripping him as a "leader"...

"Tiki Barber, the football player, great player, will be very productive probably in certain situations, third-down, maybe can help out a young quarterback, some young running backs, depending on who it is," Pierce said on ESPN's "NFL Live" per Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPNNewYork.com. "Tiki Barber, the leader, the person in that locker room? He is not going to do anything for your team. Now if that is the guy you think you are bringing in, you might want to look in another direction (ESPN)."

So, I guess his comeback won't be with the Gaints.

Rasheed Wallace Rumors Just Won't Go Away

Just when you thought it was over, Stephen A. Smith (self proclaimed long time friend of Rasheed Wallace) had this to say on WEEI today....

"So, I simply said I think he's going to end up coming back to Boston, because I believe that Boston is going to be the team that fights the Lakers for the world championship, and I believe that Doc Rivers is the ultimate motivator. And I think if you have an opportunity to play for Doc Rivers for a couple of months, that's not something that you're going to turn down. I still believe that. I still believe that Rasheed Wallace is going to come back (WEEI)."

Do I believe it? Ugh, well I have been going back and forth on this all year, but if you put a gun to my head I say no. It doesn't seem like Ainge wants him back and I don't trust anything Stephen A. Smith says, but I will say this... After the loss of Perkins, if Sheed was popular in that locker room you might see them bring him back to smooth things over (especially with KG and Rondo).

Andy Pettitte Update

It's odd that a 38 year old pitcher would be such a story line for a team with the resources that New York has, but that is just the state of the Yankees these days...

"With spring training fast approaching, the New York Yankees seemed to be preparing for life without Andy Pettitte. But there have been a few not-so-subtle hints that the veteran left-hander may be willing to postpone his retirement. SI.com's Jon Heyman tweeted that some industry sources believe Pettitte will pitch in 2011, based on the fact that he is working out in preparation for the possibility. In a later post, Heyman says the Yankees are prepared to offer Pettitte $12 million. MSNBC.com's Craig Calcaterra reported that a source close to Pettitte says there is a "very strong possibility" that the lefty decides to play this coming season (ESPN)."

The fact that he is now working out would lead me to believe that he is coming back, but I am sticking with my thinking that he will pull a Roger Clemens and join the team after the season starts. The Yankees really need to get Pettitte to come back, right now they have CC Sabtahia, Phil Hughes A.J. Burnett, and then whatever combination of Colon, Ivan Nova or Sergio Mitre to fill in the last two spots. So, if the Yankees are going to be able to keep up with the Red Sox they are going to need Pettitte to come back, and Burnett to bounce back.

Much Respect For Gil Meche

"The Kansas City Royals received $12.4 million of unexpected financial relief with the surprising, if not stunning, decision of Gil Meche to announce his retirement.

Meche, 32, has battled shoulder problems his entire career, and was slated to pitch out of the bullpen this season. The right-hander felt he would be unable to make it through the season injury free, prompting his decision to call it quits. GM Dayton Moore told the Kansas City Star he's never heard of a player leaving this much money on the table in retirement (ESPN)."

All he had to do was show up to spring training and go through some kind of rehab. Most likely the Royals would've shut him down a couple weeks into the season, but Gil Meche decided to be a stand up guy and retire. Leaving all that money on the table is crazy, but Meche knew he wasn't worth it, and for a small franchise like the Royals this is really an awesome story.

Then again, the Royals probably wish he did this earlier, so they could've used some money on free agents.

Favre Files Retirement Papers

"According to Alex Marvez of FOX Sports, Favre has officially fired his retirement papers. Apparently, Favre got the paperwork done shortly after the conclusion of his disappointing 20th NFL season (CBS Sports)."

I know a lot of people still think he will find a way to come back, but I am not one of them. He has been through too much shit this year to come back. His streak starting streak is over, we found out he is a pervert, his sisters is a meth head, and even the biggest Favre fans are finally jumping ship. It's over, there is no doubt he is a first ballot Hall of Famer, and there is also no doubt he is the most over rated Qb of all-time.

Celtics Feel The Need, The Need For Sheed

As we wrote a couple days ago there are rumors going around that Rasheed Wallace wants to come out of retirement for the Celtics. When I first heard it I agreed with most analyst that say there is just no room for him. Looking at the roster ti made sense with Perkins/KG close to returning and the addition of Shaq and Jermaine O'Neal. But as day said in his Celtics recap, O'Neal is hurt again.

I don't think Jermiane O'Neal is ever going to be healthy. His knee keeps swelling up on him, and at this point even when he is healthy he isn't bringing a whole lot to the table.

Listen, Sheed is a pain in the ass, but at least you know when the playoffs come he is give it his all. Can you say that about Jermaine O'Neal? We saw him roll over to the Celtics last playoffs, and I really don't have any real memories of him doing anything in the playoffs. All this adds up to the fact the Celtics have a need, and that need is for Sheed.

Pettitte Leaning Towards Retirement

"Jack Curry of the YES Network tweets Monday that Yankees GM Brian Cashman says Pettitte currently is leaning toward retirement. "In a month," Cashman stated, "maybe that changes (ESPN)."

Wow, this would be devastating for the Yankees. After losing out on Cliff Lee the Yankees really need Pettitte to come back for one more year. Maybe Pettitte is looking at this roster and realizing they are probably not good enough to win it all this year with the way their roster (especially pitching) is currently constructed. I still expect him to comeback, but if he doesn't all that talk about how the Yankees lefties are going to shutdown the Sox lineup will go out the window.
