I'm Sorry, I Just Don't Care

I don't care about women's soccer, it doesn't mean pride to me when it comes to Patriotism, it's stupid, irrelevant, sometimes cute, but a giant waste of time. On the 4th of July i'm not going to be on the esplanade thanking this team. Actually the only reason I'm writing this post is because I'm stuck and have NOTHING else to write about.

USA Boobs team beat North Korea's boobless team. That's what happened yesterday, no need to mention it, report about it on ESPN, bring up what happened a bunch of years back. No one cares about the Title IX of World Cups, accept for the relatives of the players themselves. Sure her name is Hope Solo and that's sweet and all, but you are an outspoken athlete on a sport that no one cares about.

This is a dumb post, fuck off, die.

Damnit Soccer Cut It Out!

Soccer just goes too far sometimes, from shooting their own goalie, riots in the stands and just their general douchebagerry. Once again, they haven't let us down...

"Friends brought a coffin with the body of a 17-year-old boy into a soccer match Sunday between Cucuta Deportivo and Envigado, according to Colombia Reports. Christopher Jacome, a big fan of Cucuta, was gunned down Saturday in a local park while playing soccer, according to the paper.Friends of Jacome took his body from the funeral home after the wake and brought it into General Santander Stadium for the game. "They don't let in the fanatics, but yes, a cadaver. This is the only part of the world where this has happened," Julio Rivera, medic for Cucuta, told the paper. Stadium officials say they will hold a meeting to find out who allowed the dead body to be brought to the match (FoxNews)."

I get that the kid was a big soccer fan, and was shot while playing soccer, but you do a moment of silence or something, not pass around his coffin during the game. The article references "Weekend at Bernie's", which is damn fitting, because the only way I see this being acceptable is if everyone was doing the Bernie while passing around the coffin.

World Cup to Russia in 2018, Qatar in 2022

Russia won the bid to host the 2018 World Cup. They beat out competing bids from Belgium/Netherlands, England, and Portugal/Spain. And that makes sense. Russia's becoming more and more of a player in the game of soccer, it's a massive country, a growing economy, and the World Cup has never been played there.

But Qatar winning the bid to host the 2022 Cup is a bit surprising. Only 1.7 million people live there. And granted, it's a rich country, but it's just so tiny. How many soccer stadiums can they have in the 164th largest country in the world?

Qatar defeated bids from the US, Japan, South Korea, and Australia.

I know that expanding the game to new places is important, and 3 out of 4 of those countries have hosted World Cups in recent memory, but Qatar? They don't even follow the "q with a u" rule.

And what about the weather? June and July in Qatar see average daily temperatures surpass 106 degrees. And for night games, enjoy the average LOW temperature of 84.

I'd been hoping that the US would host the 2022 World Cup. And failing that, Australia. But it looks as though if I want to attend a World Cup soccer game, I have to go to kidnap capital of the world Brazil in 2014, or mafia run Russia in 2018, or a country that has a "defense co-operation" agreement with Iran in 2022.

I'm pretty sure the members of FIFA received some A-rab money for all this.

Why Not?

Why not watch the fastest goalie on Earth?

Reminds me of Ben Watson against the Broncos in the playoffs.

Celtic Wins at Fenway

It was one of the weirdest looking events I've seen on TV. Maybe that's because Fenway looked backwards from the angle the camera shot the game. Maybe because the field looked 20 yards shorter and 20 yards thinner than a regulation soccer field.

In front of a sellout crowd, Glasgow Celtic defeated Sporting Portugal on penalty kicks (6-5).

I have to say the Sox did a fantastic job putting on this event. The timing was perfect, with the Red Sox out West and playing at 3:30 local time. The World Cup just ended so lots of people who aren't big soccer fans might tune in to see these two European teams play. And they picked a perfect team to come to Fenway. While Celtic aren't one of the elite teams in the world, they have a fanatical following almost everywhere.

I think you'll see the Sox stage another international exhibition game at Fenway next summer.
