Seymour Not Coming Back To Patriots

"Just like Baskin-Robbins has 31 flavors, veteran DE Richard Seymour is going to have 31 options if he hits unrestricted free agency this offseason, according to what he told CSN New England. So what happens if the New England Patriots give him a call about a return? "That isn't something I'm looking to do at all (ESPN)."

For the Raiders' sake I hope they are able to resign him since they gave up a first round pick for him. There were rumors that the Patriots might look to bring him back after this season, but there is a good amount of bad blood between Belichick and Seymour, so that doesn't seem very likely anymore. In the end, I think Seymour is a hell of a player, but he does have a tendency to disappear for several games at a time, which makes me concerned with giving him a long term deal (plus he has been injured a good about during his time with the Pats).

Seymour Reports to Oakland

Richard Seymour finally reported to the Oakland Raiders, just in time to participate in their upcoming blowout loss to the Chargers Monday night. He'll wear the number 92 for the black and silver.

He claimed that it took him so long to make the 3,000 mile trip from Foxborough to Oakland because he was "blindsided" by the deal. What a load of crap. We all know he wanted assurances from Oakland, but didn't have any leverage to secure any.

To me, it's more embarrassing to need so much time to deal with this. How many athletes in how many other sports change teams without a peep of discontent, or a moment of hesitation?

Seymour claims he needed time to move his family. If that's the ONLY reason it took him so long, and if he were in contact with his new coaches in Oakland, why wasn't he in contact with the media? Why did everyone in the country, including all his new fans in the Bay Area, have to be kept in the dark?

Whatever. It's not our problem in New England anymore. I'm glad Seymour didn't do anything rash, and I feel bad for any player sentenced to a year playing for the Raiders. But as different as it will be to see the Patriots defense without Seymour (or Bruschi, Vrabel, and Harrison for that matter), how excited will Patriots fans be on draft day in 2011?

The Latest On Seymour

"Four days after his trade from the East Coast to the West, defensive lineman Richard Seymour was still a no-show, and the situation is getting prickly. The Oakland Raiders have drafted and signed a five-day letter addressed to Seymour, which means the former New England Patriots defensive lineman has five days upon receipt to report to the Raiders or be suspended, league sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter Thursday night (Sportsline)."

This is becoming a very interesting situation. If Seymour doesn't show up in the next 5 days then he will be suspended and will lose over 3 million that he is owed this season. He also will not be able to become a free agent in the offseason. I don't think any of this affects the Patriots, but it just looks like another horrible situation for the Raiders to be in.

Seymour Still Not In Oakland

This story gets stranger by the day...

"Richard Seymour [stats] still hasn’t shown up in Oakland, and the Patriots [team stats] aren’t talking about it. Coach Bill Belichick said he couldn’t speak about the Pro Bowl defensive end because “we don’t have the rights to Richard.” The NFL has signed off on the trade for a 2011 first-round draft pick and Seymour is on the Raiders’ 53-man roster. The defensive end just hasn’t arrived, and Oakland coach Tom Cable has indicated the issues are with the Patriots (Boston Herald)."

There have been crazy rumors going around about this. Ranging from Belichick trading Seymour to a shitty team, because he was one of the few players that doesn't hang on his every word, to rumors that Seymour is just refusing to go to Oakland. The real story is probably that there is some small money hangup between Seymour and the Patriots. Cable said that Seymour has spoken to him and said he is fine with playing in Oakland, but I somewhat question that. As for the whole Belichick sending him to a bad team....complete bullshit. There just isn't another team in the NFL dumb enough to hand over a 1st round pick (which will most likely be in the top 10) for a DE who hasn't made a Pro Bowl in 2 years.

We will keep you updated on when Seymour finally makes his way to Oakland...

Breaking News: Richard Seymour To Oakland

Richard Seymour just traded Richard Seymour to the Oakland Raider for their 2011 first round pick. This is a great move for both teams because Seymour will help out that terrible Oakland pass rush, and the Patriots will most likely get a high 2011 pick.

Seymour 's Last Year With Patriots?

"Richard Seymour has been a key cog in the New England Patriots' dynastic machine of the past several years, but his contract is up after this season. While the 29 year-old wants to remain with the Pats beyond this season, he indicated yesterday to the Boston Herald that it might not happen. When asked about whether he wants to stick with the only team whose uniform he's worn in the NFL, Seymour responded, "Oh, absolutely, but it has to be mutual, and it takes two to tango. We'll let that situation play itself out, but like I said, all I can do is control what I can control (ESPN)."

I haven't been overly impressed with Seymour's play over the past couple of seasons. He obviously is one of the better DE in the game, but sometimes I feel like he disappears for long periods of time. My gut is telling me that this will be his last year with the Patriots, but I think this is also going to be a monster year for him. The NFL might now have a salary cap after this year, and Seymour is a guy who could earn huge money if he puts together a really strong year...

Seymour’s Wife Charged With Lynching

"The wife of New England Patriots defensive lineman Richard Seymour was arrested yesterday in South Carolina on charges of lynching, which is akin to group fighting, stemming from an altercation at a New Year’s Eve party. The alleged victims, who told police they were invited to the party, were involved in a “verbal altercation” with a group of people at the party, the station reported. The two alleged victims told police they were “jumped” by a group of people and assaulted sometime after 12:30 a.m. on Jan. 1 (Boston Herald)."

The reason I put this story up is not because it has to do with Richard Seymour, it is because I am really surprised at the definition of "lynching". "Any act of violence inflicted by a mob upon the body of another person and from which death does not result (Boston Herald).” I always thought lynching was when a group of people gathered and like strung a someone up from a tree or something. I didn't know there were varying degrees, and you could be charged with lynching for basically jumping someone. Anyways, it really doesn't sound like she is in that much of trouble. The "victim" only had a sprained wrist, so it sounds like should would get community service, and probation.

Seymour Out

As if the Patriots needed to make this day any tougher, the Patriots will be playing without defensive end Richard Seymour. The future Hall of Fame defensive end has been bothered with a bad back, and apparently it became too much this week for him to overcome. The Patriots depth will once again be tested, but I have faith in their defensive line, and they have had to overcome Seymour injuries many times in the past. Jarvis Green is good at getting pressure on the QB, and I really don't think the Patriots will have a hard time beating the Bills today. What I don't have faith in is Brett Favre and the Jaguars. I hate that we have to rely of that queer Favre to get into the playoffs...

**UPDATE** RB Lynch will not be playing for the Bills

Richard Seymour Hurt

The Patriots just can't seem to catch a break as " five-time Pro Bowl defensive end Richard Seymour could be out with a lower back injury. Seymour was not at the team’s practice yesterday, leaving his status for Sunday’s do-or-die game against the Bills in question (Boston Herald)."

For a team that has already lost Tom Brady, Rodney Harrison, Adalius Thomas, Laurence Maroney, and Teddy Bruschi this could be the injury that finally ends their season, but I am sorry I just don't believe it. I think the Patriots can overcome this injury just like they have the rest. Seymour has been in and out of the lineup for the past couple of year, and the Pats always seem to find a way. Somehow I really think the Patriots will make it in to the playoffs, and I have no question in my mind that they will beat the Bills this weekend.
