Timberwolves Fire Kurt Rambis

The Minnesota Timberwolves have decided to fire coach Kurt Rambis.

I have written more about the Timberwolves then I ever have before over the last couple of weeks. He isn't a great coach, but I doubt they get a great coach to replace him. Bottom line is that this is just yet another franchise that won't get better until the front office changes. Kahn has done a terrible job with this team and until he is gone I don't see much in the way of change. This team does have some talent, and maybe they will improve in the draft and be a decent. I wouldn't hold my breathe though. Maybe it isn't just the front office, it could be location as well. Try to get someone like Dwight Howard to go move to Minnesota... tough sell.

Breaking News: A's Fire Manager Bob Geren

The Oakland A's have fired manager Bob Geren after a 27-36 start and a nine-game losing streak. Bob Melvin has been named the interim replacement. Can't say I am all that surpised, the A's were supposed to challenge for the AL West, but they haven't been very good and as of today are in last place (8 games behind Texas).

Bottom line is the A's never bother to get an offense. I like their pitching staff, but that is now going to faulter with Anderson most likely needing Tommy John. They have a solid base, but the alway seem to and if they are going to ever compete they are going to need to go out and spend money on good free agents and not just washed up vets (Matsui).

Bruce Pearl Canned

Tennessee Fired coach Bruce Pearl after a series of allegations for recruiting violations. After publicly backing him this summer after his first violation, i guess more shit hit the fan and their hands were tied. In six seasons, Pearl, led the Volunteers to their first No. 1 ranking in 2008 and first NCAA tournament regional finals appearance, missing out on a trip to the 2010 Final Four by a single point and a record was 145 and 61 at Knoxville.

You know where he needs to go? URI. Fuck this Jim Baron guy and his stupid son coming here from Virginia lets get a guy who isn't just "mediocre" and a guy who will get the job done. Even with all the nonsense that Pearl put Tennessee through, they STILL supported him, they STILL rallied for him, and the STILL were behind him, that's a coach I want. At URI we are stuck with a weatherman posing to be a coach and nothing would make me happier then see him get run out of town by a lynch mob.

I know there is no way in hell Pearl comes but a boy can dream.

Pacers Fire Jim O'Brien

"Jim O'Brien was fired as the head coach of the Indiana Pacers on Sunday and assistant coach Frank Vogel, 37, was promoted to the top spot for the duration of the season. The Pacers are only 17-27 this season and two games out of the eighth playoff spot in the Eastern Conference (ESPN)."

Jim O'Brien really hasn't done anything since joining the Pacers, so this isn't really much of a surprised (even though he didn't have a ton to work with). Along with a poor record the Pacers weren't happy with the treatment of some of their players. O'Brien has publicly been very harsh on Roy Hibbert, and really never found very much playing time for Tyler Hansbrough. This didn't sit well with Larry Bird...

"I never did that when I was a coach and I didn't like it when I was a player," Bird said. "If you look at some of our players, especially Roy, he looks like he's down. He's not running around, not having a good time like he was earlier. Obviously it's affecting him (ESPN)."

The Pacers are far off from being a good team, but they could squeak into the playoffs if they get some more inspired play from their players after this move.

Rich Rodriguez Out At Michigan

"Embattled Michigan football coach Rich Rodriguez has been fired, a source tells ESPN's Joe Schad. Michigan released a statement Wednesday saying athletic director Dave Brandon will discuss the state of the program at 12:30 p.m. ET. The source told Schad that Rodriguez is meeting with his staff. A players meeting is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon (ESPN)."

They had been back and forth over the past couple of days, but ti seems like he is finally being let go. I hate Michigan, I really do, but even I think this is a mistake. He has only had 3 years, and I do think he had them generally going in the right direction. Instead of firing him I would've gone out and got a top notch defensive coordinator, because if they had any defense at all they could've been a top 25 team.

Tom Cable Let Go

"The Oakland Raiders informed coach Tom Cable on Tuesday that they will not bring him back as coach next season even though he led them to their best record in eight years this season (ESPN)."

Tom Cable is a terrible person, and if they got rid of him because of that then I can understand it, but from a football perspective this doesn't make any sense. Cable gave the Raiders an 8-8 season that was its first non-losing record since winning the 2002 AFC championship. Oakland will now be looking for their 6th coach the end of the 2001 season. I just really don't get this at all, unless (like I said) it was because they didn't want to deal with him punching coaches in the face anymore.

I understand all but 3. I don't know why Tom Cable is being fired, unless they are getting a premier guy like (Bill Cowher, Jon Gruden, Jim Harbaugh) what Cable did this year was impressive. The Raiders were awful and he was able to bring them to an 8-8 record. This was a "building" year for Oakland and they have a lot to look forward too.

Now to the negativity. Tom Coughlin and Gary Kubiak suck. They blow and how do they still have jobs. The Giants constantly have late season collapses and Gary Kubiak has constantly coached an underachieving team.

Josh McDaniels Fired As Broncos Coach

After 22 months of work in Denver, Josh McDaniels has been relieved as head coach of the Broncos. They replaced him running backs coach Eric Studesville.

I like Josh McDaniels and I was rooting for him to do well, however, he was way over his head when he took over the job. After winning his first six games his rookie season, McDaniels lost 17 of his last 22 and had to go. The first thing he did as a head coach was run their "franchise quarterback" Jay Cutler out of Denver, then runs their best playmaker out of town, then drafts Tim Tebow in the 1st round for god knows what reason and a spygate like controversy.

So the next question needs to be asked, what happens to Tebow? He was a McDaniels guy, and I don't really believe any other coach has faith that he could run an NFL offense.

The Broncos will be a "team in progress" for the next couple of years because McDaniels set them back years.

Breaking News: 49ers Fire Offensive Coordinator Jimmy Raye

The 49ers were supposed to be a playoff team this year, but after a 0-3 start they have decided to part ways with offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye. Personally, I think Mike Singletary should be the one fired, because he is a terrible coach.

I was a fan of the 49ers going into the season, but after Frank Gore came out and said they "kicked the Saints ass up and down the field" even though they lost in week 2 I kind of lost respect. Now I find it hilarious they they are getting their asses kicked by the likes of Kansas City.

Funny, I haven't read any Frank Gore quotes this week.

Orioles To Fire Trembley

Dave Trembley was fired last night as coach of the Orioles. I know his team is young, and there isn't much he can do, but this team is better then 15-39, so he should be sent packing. The Orioles have a lot of young talent, but sometimes those guys don't work out. Wieters is a hell of a talent, but a .240 BA with 4 HRs and 16 RBis just isn't going to cut it. Something needs to get him on track and hopefully a new coach will.

The Orioles need a lot of thing to fall their way if they are ever going to make some noise in the AL East. Wieters, Tillman, Matusz, Markakis all need to live up to the hype that has been around them. It will be interesting to see this team develop over the next 3-4 years, so the next coach they get better be sticking around for awhile, because this team isn't going anywhere for awhile.

In The Least Surprising News Of The Day: Mike Brown Fired

Don't be fooled by his career 272-138 win percentage, that's all LeBron's doing. Mike Brown is a bad coach. He was out coached by Stan Van Gundy last year, and out coached badly by Doc this year. He will always be known as the guy who coached LeBron. Sure the Raptors or some shitty team will give him a chance but he will fail.

I don't like the way Mike Brown talks either, he does weird mouth movements which makes his interviews almost impossible for me to watch. Whatever.

Bye, Bye Mike Brown

Though there is no official word, Cavs coach Mike Brown is going to be dismissed by the Cavs within the next couple of days. Brown has a clauses in his contract which states he'll get only part of his salary for 2010-11 if he's terminated within 10 days of the clubs last game, so an official announcement should be coming soon.

I know Lebron, and the rest of the team gave up, but isn't that kind of the coaches fault. Beyond that Brown was schooled on by Doc Rivers. He didn't know how to slow down Rajon, he started playing guys he hadn't played in months, and when their backs were against the wall he didn't even have his team foul the Celtics. Sorry, Mike Brown, but you might be the worst NBA coach I have ever seen...goodbye.

76ers Fire Eddie Jordan

The 76ers decided to part way with Eddie Jordan today after an underachieving season where they missing the playoffs for the first time in 3 years. The 76ers will now look for their 4th head coach in 3 seasons. That's not a good sign, but I also think Eddie Jordan is extremely overrated, and the 76ers can do better then him.

Many players on the 76ers came out and said they never got Jordan's offensive system, so obviously he wasn't connecting well with the players. I am sure this won't be the last coach that gets canned, so it will be interesting to see who the 76ers will have on their radar for a replacement.

Seahwaks Fire Jim Mora

"The Seattle Seahawks fired Jim Mora after just one season, leaving the former NFC West champs without a coach, general manager and president less than four years after they appeared in the Super Bowl. The team confirmed the move Friday in a news release, less than a week after Mora finished 5-11 after taking over his hometown team at the end of Mike Holmgren's coaching contract (CBSSports)."

This seems dumb to me. Why not hire a GM first, and then let him decide oh what to do with the coach. I also hate when teams fire a guy after 1 year, because the guy really hasn't had the chance to bring in "his guys", or get the team comfortable with his style.

Jim Leavitt Fired From USF

Jim Leavitt has been fired as South Florida coach, a source close to the coaching staff tells ESPN.com's Ivan Maisel.

Leavitt has been under investigation by the university for allegedly grabbing and striking a player at halftime of a November game.

South Florida's findings of its investigation will be released later Friday, AOL Fanhouse reports.

This is getting a little out of hand colleges. I mean when wee football coaches not supposed to be mean? I guess the next rule they make will be there is no swearing allowed by the coaches. He grabbed shoulder pads in this incident. Shoulder pads, if you called my grandmother she would say that's acceptable behavior for a college coach.

Redskins Fire Jim Zorn

"Jim Zorn was fired by the Washington Redskins early Monday, the first step in yet another team overhaul under owner Dan Snyder. Zorn was informed of his dismissal shortly after the team returned to Redskins Park following Sunday's season-ending 23-20 loss at San Diego. Zorn went 12-20 over two seasons, but he lost 18 of his last 24 games after a 6-2 start in 2008. The Redskins struggled early despite a weak schedule this season and finished 4-12, their worst record since 1994.

"The status quo is not acceptable," general manager Bruce Allen said in a statement released by the team. "I felt it was necessary to not waste a moment of time to begin building this team into a winner."

Zorn's replacement will be Washington's seventh coach since Snyder bought the team in 1999. Playing a role in the decision will be Allen, who was hired as the GM last month (CBSSports)."

Zorn was terrible, but whoever the Redskins pick as their next coach they are going to need to stick by for awhile. One of the main problems in Washington is that they never let their team gel. It is a constant revolving door of players and coaches. Whoever the next coach is (probably Shanahan) will need to get this team to play as a team, and the first step in doing that is to have a coach that has the respect of the players. Also, they are going to need to let the players develop, instead of just going out and signing the next big name free agent...

Seahawks GM Tim Ruskell Quits

"The Seattle Seahawks are expected to announce general manager Tim Ruskell's resignation at a news conference Thursday, sources said on Wednesday. The team called a news conference for 1 p.m. ET. Ruskell is in the final year of a five-year contract. Recent reports suggesting Ruskell would be fired apparently led him to push ownership for a yes-or-no answer about his long-term tenure, according to sources (ESPN)."

I blame a lot of the struggles of Seattle on the health of their players, but going 8-19 since the beginning of last year is unacceptable. They have made bad choices in free agents, and have done a piss poor job creating an offensive line to protect their once Pro Bowl QB.

Seattle is going to need to get younger and start rebuilding that could mean getting rid of Hasselbeck and starting fresh, but at least they may have found something at RB with Forsett.

Breaking News: Charlie Weis Fired

Good this guy has been nothing but a terrible coach a Notre Dame. The only way he won is with Ty Willingham's players, his arrogance was ridiculous, he proved nothing while being there and is more cut out to be an offensive coordinator in the NFL, then a head coach of any team. The next coach the Irish decide to hire, they need to stick with for at least 5 years. Even though Jimmy Claussen had one foot out the door, this most definitely means he is going pro.

Nets Fire Lawrence Frank

"The winless New Jersey Nets fired coach Lawrence Frank on Sunday, several hours before they matched the worst start in NBA history with their 17th straight loss. Assistant Tom Barrise temporarily replaced his friend, but the Nets remained 0-for-the-season with a 106-87 loss to the defending champion Los Angeles Lakers. Though Frank's departure has been widely expected while New Jersey lost every game in the season's first 4½ weeks, several of Frank's players claimed they were stunned when their energetic coach showed up at their morning team meeting in Los Angeles not wearing his Nets gear.

"It's tough, because he was the hardest worker on the team," center Brook Lopez said. "He's so passionate about what he does. It was a rough situation, and he did a great job of not using our injuries as an excuse. He came in every night and had us prepared."

The Nets won't choose a permanent replacement for Frank until after they return from their four-game road trip Monday. Their next game is Wednesday at home against Dallas, when the Nets must win to avoid NBA ignominy (CBSSports)."

Not really a lot of say here. You can't go 0-16 and expect to keep your job. I think the Nets and Knicks should become one franchise. What is funny is that if you actually take the best players from both team that would probably still be below .500. Anyways, the entire state of New jersey sucks, so it only makes sense the Nets do too.

Dick Jauron Fired

I know it happened yesterday, and we really didn't cover it because it was about the least shocking news ever...

"The Buffalo Bills fired head coach Dick Jauron on Tuesday after a 3-6 start in which the offense has been one of the worst in the NFL (ESPN)."


He absolutely deserved to get fired, but I never like when a team does this in the middle of the season. Why do you gain by doing this? I guess you could start talking to other coaches, but I think anyone could see Jauron was gone after this year. Whoever takes over this job has a lot of work to do (step 1 find a QB).
