Duke Lost

Finally..

Duke lost last night to a Chris Singleton led FSU team 66-61.

Speaking of Chris Singleton he had 18 points for Florida State and made five free throws in the final 33 seconds to kill any hope of a comeback and hold off the defending national champions (that hurt me to say).

I'm not completely in college Basketball mode right now, but whenever I see Duke losing, I like to point it out to everyone, especially our Duke ballwasher Wilde.

Myron Rolle Everyone

This is former FSU defensive back turned Rhodes Scholar and now he's choosing between the NFL and being a doctor. But who cares about that, what I do care about is him looking like an absolute douche bag.

Stop being an asshole Myron and put on a doo rag and a big chain. That will definitely get you drafted a couple of spots higher.

Florida State Loses 12 Wins

The official word has finally come down and Florida State has to give up 12 wins as part of an academic fraud scandal in 2006-07 involving 61 student-athletes. Those 12 wins are being taken from Bobby Bowden's record. There is part of me that thinks he had no idea about this, but when I look across the country these guys at some point have to get in trouble for their actions. How long can colleges go on with guys like Calipari bouncing from school to school to avoid having to pay for the cheating he did. It is honestly out of control, and you would think the NCAA at some point is going to go after these coaches instead of just the school. In my opinion they should both be in trouble.

Bowden Gets A Nice Sendoff From the NCAA

"The NCAA Division I Infractions Appeals Committee has upheld the decision to penalize Florida State for academic cheating, meaning retired football coach Bobby Bowden's record has been stripped of 14 victories (ESPN)."

Sucks for Bowden, but he wasn't going to be #1 anyways. I wonder if JoePa laughed about this? No, he probably just took some Metamucil, pooped, and then as gently placed in his bed....

Bobby Bowden Set To Retire

TALLAHASSEE -- Legendary Florida State coach Bobby Bowden, who built one of college football's greatest dynasties in 34 seasons with the Seminoles, plans to announce his retirement Tuesday morning, sources close to the situation told ESPN.com. ESPN

Bobby Bowden is a legend and today is a sad day for college football. Him along with JoePa might be the two biggest figureheads in college football. Bowden has 388 career wins. Apparently Bobby was given two options: return to FSU in 2010 as an ambassador to the program, in which he would have little input in the day-to-day operations of the program, or retire after the Seminoles' upcoming bowl game. He must have known that at 80 he can't do it anymore.

Offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher, who was named Bowden's eventual successor near the end of the 2007 season, has agreed to contract terms to replace Bowden after this season. I still believe he could have done it for a couple more years, but apparently Florida State didn't. Jimbo Fisher will be a great head coach for FSU and it should be little to no transition for players whom have probably been coached by Fisher for years.

Defending Bobby Bowden

Up until right now I was up in the air about Florida State football coach Bobby Bowden, now I think they should let Bobby Bowden coach until he wants to retire. Bobby has built this program and is a legend in regards to college football. I don't care if they take away some of his duties like Joe Pa, but FSU just wont be the same without that old man with the silly hat on the sidelines. FSU has had some bad years recently, but he is recruiting in probably the most difficult state in the US. With Florida's recent success, The perks that come with Miami, and even South Florida being relevant recently FSU may be the third or fourth option for a stud recruit. I don't think Bobby Bowden's aura has gone down, and I believe in a couple of years FSU will be relevant again, they just need to ride it out with Bowden. Right now, they have a couple of talented QB's, decent WRs, and some young RBs. Florida State can't be rash when it comes to this decision, and they need to realize what they have had a legend for the game.

Breaking News: The EJ Manuel Dynasty Begins

Heralded recruit EJ Manuel will get his first start for Florida State on Saturday at Wake Forest.

The redshirt freshman from Virginia Beach, Va., replaces junior quarterback Christian Ponder, who suffered a dislocated shoulder in Saturday's loss to Clemson and has been ruled out for the rest of the season

The 6-foot-4, 225-pound Manuel, who was redshirted last year, threw for nearly 7,400 yards and 68 touchdowns in high school. ESPN

If you have been here from the beginning you will know that Bob and I randomly pick random recruits to be our favorite players in college football. About 2 years ago Bob picked some douche from Arkansas named DeAnthony Curtis, who I have heard nothing about, and I picked a stud QB named EJ Manuel. EJ was redshirted because Christian Ponder already had stake as the QB. Now with Ponder out of the question(he sucked anyways) EJ could be Bobby Bowden and Jimbo Fisher's last hope. My prediction Heisman in two years, guarenSheed.

Bobby Bowden Should Probably Retire

Before I get into bashing Bobby Bowden, I believe he is one of the top coaches that ever lived and should have buildings at FSU named after him, for what he did with that program. He has been there 33 years and have 384 wins (which is only 3 behind Joe Pa)but....
Florida State is 2-3 for the first time since Bowden's inaugural season at the school 33 years ago, and 0-2 in the Atlantic Coast Conference for the first time. Along with that he hasn't won a meaningful game in a while. He seems to have lost some of the Magic he once did. He is still getting recruits, but everyone knows it's Jimbo Fisher's time. Also, with all Florida programs doing pretty good, the loss to Boston College is going to be amplified.

FSU Is Having A Great Offseason

Florida State wide receiver Rod Owens faces a DUI charge after Tallahassee police pulled him over early Sunday on a routine traffic stop.
Owens provided a breath sample at that time and "blew a .155, which is almost double the legal limit," McCranie said. Owens was held for eight hours and released on $500 bond, according to the state's attorney's office. Owens will be arraigned May 28.

Boy this is a ridiculous offseason for my favorite school. They have done nothing but just tarnish the program for years. Among the list is:
• Former Florida State receiver Preston Parker was dismissed from the team earlier this year after his third arrest since 2006.

• Five receivers were involved in a fight outside the student union last fall.

• Bert Reed was suspended for missing class and ultimately was suspended three times in a one-month period.

• Corey Surrency was suspended twice last year. The Seminoles are thin at receiver; two starters from a year ago, Parker and Greg Carr, are no longer with the team, and Taiwan Easterling is sidelined this spring with a ruptured Achilles.

Luckily this won't affect EJ Manuel's Heisman run.

FSU In Big Trouble

The Florida State football team will vacate an undetermined number of wins, serve four years' probation, and face a reduction in scholarships and other penalties due to what the NCAA described Friday as "major violations" from an academic cheating scandal.

Nine other programs were also penalized -- baseball, men's track and field, women's track and field, men's swimming, women's swimming, men's basketball, women's basketball, softball and men's golf -- and face the same sanctions. Overall, the scandal involved 61 athletes.

Football coach Bobby Bowden would have entered the coming season with 382 career victories, trailing Penn State coach Joe Paterno by one win on the all-time list. The sanctions will force him to forfeit all wins during which ineligible students competed in 2006 and 2007. ESPN

This sucks. I am a huge FSU fan, but did anyone not see this happening. FSU is one of the dirtiest programs in the NCAA. This sucks for me because this means that a lot of their wins in the next years will be irrelevant and a lot of their players are likely going to leave.(Hopefully not E.J. Manuel) This also will tarnish the career of Bobby Bowden and who has 382 victories. Sad day to be a Seminole fan.

Myron Rolle has no comment.

Parker Kicked Of FSU

"The 21-year-old Parker, from Delray Beach, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence after Tallahassee police found him asleep in his running car early Saturday.
The police report said Parker admitted he had been drinking and smoking marijuana. It was the third time Parker has been arrested since 2006."
This sucks for Florida State especially after the great Myron Rolle gave the school some credibility. But I have to ask this question, Why was Preston Parker allowed to be on the team after his first arrest? Hell, Why was he allowed back on the team after his second arrest? I guess FSU really does have a three strike policy.

The first two arrests break down to this,

"Parker was suspended for the first two games of the 2008 season after being arrested last April in Palm Beach County on weapons and drug charges....

Parker was also arrested in 2006 after police said he tried to steal a DVD from Best Buy. The charge was dismissed after he entered a diversionary program and paid $200 in court costs."

Whatever, good riddens to bad rubbish. E.J. Manuel doesn't want to play with this scum anyways.

Myron Rolle To Oxford?

Remember when I wrote a post about Florida Stat DB Myron Rolle winning a Rhodes Scholarship. Well instead of going to the NFL (which he is projected to be a top round pick) he is deciding to seek a one-year master's degree in medical anthropology at Oxford. I think this is one of the most over looked stories in college football this year. The news has hardly reported anything on this true student athlete, but continuously sucks Tebows dick or putting all their effort into what Pacman Jones will do next. Myron Rolle really puts things into perspective if you ask me. He is striving towards a real career rather than the fame and glory of playing a game and having shot knees for the rest of his life. Good for you Myron.

Bobby Bowden To Return

Bobby Bowden says he'll be back for a 34th season as coach at Florida State.

The 79-year-old Bowden said Friday that details of his new contract are being finalized. He also said his longtime defensive coordinator Mickey Andrews will return.

I love Florida State, and I love Bobby Bowden, but I think this should be his last year if he doesn't finish in the top ten. Bowden will go down as one of the legendary coaches in college football, but recently Florida State has sucked. They are stuck in mediocrity and can't always get over the hump. They seem to always be ranked in the mid 20's. I can tell you who will bring Florida State to greatness next year, and that is E.J. Manuel, so I hope Bobby can tell as well.

College Football Picks

Today we have a flurry of great games, so I am going to pick a few and break them down and give you my prediction.

(1) Alabama vs Auburn

The only reason I am including this game is because they are rivals, and teams seem to have a better showing going against their rivals. However, Alabama has the most dangerous rushing attack in the SEC and expect a lot of Coffee and Ingram against a deep Auburn defensive line. Alabama's rushing, offensive line, defense, and quarterback are all better than Auburns so that is why this game should be won by the Tide and end the 6 game losing streak.

Bama 28-10

(3)Oklahoma vs (12)Oklahoma State

I know this pick is completely bias' due to my hatred for Oklahoma but I have a feeling. Oklahoma State comes in with outstanding runningback Kendall Hunter. Hunter finished with 102 yards for his fourth consecutive 100-yard game and ninth of the year. The sophomore has 1,434 yards overall -- leading the Big 12 -- and is fifth nationally with 130.36 yards per game. Also Zac Robinson has been playing mistake free football, and doesn't lose them games. If Hunter controls the game and Robinson manages it, this game could be won. Oklahoma will need to be contained, if OSU wants a shot.

35-31 OSU

(4) Florida vs (20) Florida State

I'm picking FSU for a couple reasons, and those reasons have nothing to do with football. (1) I hate Florida, (2) It gives me a reason to put a picture of Jenn Sterger up and (3) I despise Tim Tebow. Florida is a scary team and I really don't want them to play Alabama in the SEC championship because I believe they can beat the Tide. I think Florida State can make Tim Tebow scared and not let him play to the level he has been playing at. FSU is going to win this game for Bobby Bowden and to knock Florida off their high horse.

38-34 FSU

(23)Oregon vs (17) Oregon State

This game has a lot of implications because if Oregon State loses, it lets USC take the Pac 10. Oregon State comes in here without leading rusher Jacquizz Rodgers and that will absolutely kill Oregon States offense. If Oregon can play mistake free football, and contain a banged up Lyle Moevao, this upset could definitely possible.

35-21 Oregon

FSU Suspends 5 Wide Receivers

Taiwan Easterling, Bert Reed, Corey Surrency, Cameron Wade and Richard Goodman have been suspended for tonight's Florida State/Boston College game. Coach Bobby Bowden has suspended them for involvement in a fight between members of the football team and a fraternity on campus Wednesday afternoon. A girl not involved in the fight was also hit by a chair.

For Bert Reed and Corey Surrency, this is the second time they've been suspended this season.

Full Story

-The Commodore

DP's add on

For Florida State this is the last thing they needed. Not only does this take away from Myron Rolle's recent story of success, it puts Florida State back in the spotlight of being a bunch of shitheads. There is a rumor that their is a video of the fight, and God do I hope there is because there is a supposed girl fight, a stabbing of a pencil and a chair being thrown and connected to someones dome. I have my fingers crossed.

A College Athlete Who Actually Excels At College

"Rolle will play in the potentially critical Atlantic Division matchup in College Park, Md., and also attend the announcement of this year's Rhodes Scholar recipients in Birmingham, Ala.
Rolle, a starting safety, is a finalist for the prestigious scholarship and will go through interviews that Saturday."

It is very rare that you hear about a college athlete being this smart (other than offensive lineman) and it is very rare that you would hear a college athlete out of FSU being a candidate for a Rhodes Scholar.

Myron Rolle is a breath of fresh air when it comes to student/ athletes, instead of the normal thugs that you hear taking college academics for granted while playing a sport (Ryan Perilloux, Marcus Vick, Michael Beasley), Myron is actually getting something out of it. With Coach Bobby Bowden needing all the good press he can, this will actually take pressure off of his underachieving football team.

I originally saw this story on The Big Lead

College Football Picks

O.K. Well if you have been following my College Football picks recently I have nothing to brag about. I am now 6-5 on the season, but I am feeling it this week.

The first game I have t start out with is (6) LSU vs (10) Auburn

I like LSU for a couple of reasons. 1. I don't respect any team that beats another 3-2. 2. Auburn has no passing attack. 3. LSU needs to win this game if they want to be in the National Championship.

So far Auburn's offense has been somewhat of a joke and LSU has been using the duel QB system ever since Bob's boy decided to be a shithead. Andrew Hatch and Jarrett Lee have both thrown for over 200 yards this season and Charles Scott might be too much for Auburn to take. Scott is a bruiser at 5-11 and 220 pounds and has averaged 11 yards per carry and also leads a very strong LSU rushing attack.

41 LSU, 14 Auburn

The Second game I will bee choosing is Tennessee hosting (4) Florida

Although this game will seem pretty obvious that Florida will win, it is still an SEC game and still at Knoxville. What I don't like about Florida is their rushing attack, because they have none. Tebow is leading the team in rushing with 92 yards so far this season and doesn't seem to be producing as much as last year. Actually, Fuck it. I can't bring myself to picking Florida and I am going with the Volunteers.

I like Jonathan Crompton better as a passing QB, and I like Arian Foster as a runningback. Together those two along with WR Lucas Taylor should be able to upset the number 4 Gators. I don't care if Tennessee has never beaten a Urban Meyer run football team.

21 Tenn, 14 Florida

(24) Florida State vs (18) Wake Forest

This may be Bobby Bowden's last season as a coach especially if he has another sub-par season and I think his players know it. So far this season Florida State has beaten two terrible teams and this will be their first true test. This year Florida State's defense is something to write home about and are currently ranked number 1 in the country. They also have received excellent Quarterback play from two guys not named E.J. Manuel, Christian Ponder and D'Vontrey Richardson. Ponder became the first Seminole since Charlie Ward in 1992 to throw for six touchdown passes in his first two career starts. Richardson has thrown for two scores and rushed for three others, including a 55-yard touchdown run against Chattanooga that broke a quarterback school record he tied the previous week.

I don't even need to write about Wake. They are going to lose, end of discussion.

28 Florida State, 10 Wake Forest

Also,
(5) Missouri vs Buffalo

Obviously going to be a BLOWOUT. Get it. Anyways I say Missouri scores no less than 65 points.
