Around The NFL

Nnamdi Awesome-ugha is headed to Philly
Love it, love it, love it. It would have been cool to see him go to the Jets and have Revis and him, but we will have to take Samuel and him. He signed a deal worth $60 million over five years which isn't bad figuring he's the best cornerback in the league. Now the Eagles have a stupid secondary with Asante Samuel, Nnamdi and recently acquired Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. Those are 3 Pro Bowl cornerbacks ladies and gentlemen.

Antonio Cromartie back to the Jets
Antonio Cromartie will sign a 4 year, 32 million dollar deal with the Jets. Not a bad deal figuring he's still pretty damned good and can play in return situations too.

Plaxico Burress to Jets
It was said to be between the Steelers and Giants, but Plax decided to spurn his former teams and sign with the convict laden New York Jets for 3 million. This is an alternative to Braylon Edwards, who is surely going to be on another team next year. I don't like Plax, but it will be interesting to see if he can still be an effective receiver in the league.

Cedric Benson is back with the Bengals
He's about the only one who is back. 3 million with 2 million incentives, a 1 year deal.

Plaxico Burress to Giants, Steelers?

Apparently the gun toting wide receiver has his selection of where he wants to go whittled down to 2 teams, The Steelers and the Giants.

I'm not a big fan of Plaxico and don't really want him, but if he comes to the Steelers he can't hurt. At the end of the day he's 6-5 and would be a huge target for Ben in redzone situations.

He spent 5 years in Pittsburgh before the Giants so who knows, it could work, but I don't see him getting more than 600 yards.

I'm going to ignore this, but if Plaxico came back home, I guess I would be alright with it.

Can we stop it with the Plaxicomania BS

Listen any team that brings this guy in is dumb. I don't want to burst anyones bubble, but the man is 2 years removed from the NFL and is 32. No player is going to be that great with those 2 things weighing you down. The only thing that he could be potentially useful for is goal line situations, but thats still a question.

Let's stop acting like this guy was Randy Moss or Terrell Owens, hes a big guy who isn't a game breaker. he never was, and now he certainly he will never be. Anyone (including BMack) who is clamoring at this guy coming to their team is down right dumb. I would rather take a flier on Randy Moss this year than him. I guarantee he gets cut before the season ends.

He's muff cabbage.

Plaxico Burress Released From Jail

Seems like Burress has been away for ever for shooting himself in the leg (haha). Well, he is finally out, and from reports looks in better shape then when he went in. If I was any team I would take a shot on this guy. I think there is a great chance he explodes back on the scene, and I don't see him getting in trouble again. My hope is the Patriots actually take a look because he would be a awesome combo with Tom Brady.

There are a bunch of other rumored teams (Jets, Steelers, Giants, Eagles, ect). If I was the Rams I would take a strong look at this guy, as they could use some WR help. The Redskins are another likely landing spot (and I was to have a guess I would say they are most likely).

Who Will Sign Plaxico Burress?

"I am not afraid to make the following prediction: Plaxico Burress will be playing in 2011, and he will play very well," Rosenhaus (Plaxico's agent) declared to Josina Anderson, per Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk. "And it will be a very happy ending to a very tough, tough story for him."

ESPN lists the rumored interested teams as follows (Ravens, Redskins, Jets, Giants, Bengals, Patriots). To me the teams that make the most sense out of that list as the Jets and Patriots. The Jets don't really care about off the field issues, and they are losing a bunch of WRs to free agency this year. Plus, Plaxico would get to stay in New York, which could be appealing.

The Patriots also make a lot of sense to me, and I like this rumors a lot more then Ochocinco (or whatever he calls himself today). The Patriots could use a WR that same some size to him and Plaxico is certainly that. Plus, it's not like what he did is that big of a deal. He's just an idiot that shot himself. I know he has had some other issues, but I have a feeling he has learned his lesson. Just a feeling, but don't be surprised if he is a Patriot or a Jet next season.

Burress' Request For Work Release Turned Down

"Former New York Giants Super Bowl star Plaxico Burress has come up short in his bid for work release during his two-year prison sentence in a gun case, a denial that could keep him behind bars until at least next spring, prison officials said Tuesday (Sportsline)."

I have to admit I thought they would give it to him. Now you have to wonder if he will be able to play next year, if Goodell decides to suspend him. I really think Goodell should let this one slide. I don't even like Burress, but 2 years in prison is enough for weapon possession. I mean the guy shot himself on top of it, cut him some slack.

Burress Gets 2 Years In Jail

"Former Super Bowl star Plaxico Burress was sentenced Tuesday to two years in prison for possessing a gun at a night club. The former New York Giants star tearfully told his family goodbye as he surrendered to begin his prison stint for attempted criminal possession of a weapon after accidentally shooting himself in the thigh. Burress was indicted on two counts of weapon possession and one count of reckless endangerment and pleaded guilty Aug. 20. He had faced a minimum sentence of 3½ years on those charges if convicted at trial. He pleaded to the lesser charge and agreed to the two-year term (Sportsline)."

Most likely Burress will only serve 20 months of that sentence, but his career is basically done. What a waste of talent. he must be humiliated. It is not like he killed anyone he is just a fucking moron who gets to go to jail for shooting himself in the leg.....HAHAHAHA

Breaking News: Plaxico Gets 2 Years In Jail

"Former New York Giants receiver Plaxico Burress pleaded guilty Thursday to a weapons charge and agreed to a two-year prison term for accidentally shooting himself at a Manhattan nightclub. Burress pleaded guilty to one count of attempted criminal possession of a weapon, a lesser charge than he initially faced. Under a plea agreement, he agreed to a two-year prison sentence and two years of supervised release (Sportsline)."

First off....HAHAAHHAHAHAHA, what a fucking moron.

This is kind of bullshit though. Stallworth killed someone and he gets a couple months in prison. Plaxico shoots himself and gets 2 years? Doesn't make sense to me, but since I hate him so much I can just sit back and laugh about this one...

Goodbye Plaxico's career...what a waste of talent.

Plaxico To Be Suspended At Least 8 Games

"A source has told Gary Myers of the New York Daily News that if Plaxico Burress is signed by an NFL team for the 2009 season, commissioner Roger Goodell will dole out a suspension of at least eight games for the free agent wideout. Myers presumes that any team that wants to sign Plax will call the league office to get a feel for how many games he'll miss due to suspension, and he reports that, as of the middle of last week, no team had done so (ESPN)."

This is such an odd situation, because Plaxico can be a top 5 WR, when his head is in it, but since he is going to be suspended for so long, and has a screw loose everyone is staying away from him. Someone will eventually take a chance, but I wouldn't expect that to happen until Goodell decides the exact number of games. Missing half the season could be really tough for Plaxico to overcome, since by then most players are comfortable with the offense, and with him being out for so long it could be tough to get that comfort level with his QB. Anyways, he is a shithead, and I wish nothing but terrible things for him...

Burress Indicted On Weapons Charges

"Former New York Giants star Plaxico Burress was indicted by a grand jury on weapons charges after shooting himself in the thigh at a Manhattan night club last winter, prosecutors announced Monday. The indictment charged the 31-year-old Burress with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and one count of reckless endangerment, Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau said. Burress' former teammate, Giants linebacker Antonio Pierce, was not indicted for his role in the incident. "A grand jury applied the law to the facts of this case," Morgenthau said. No one else is likely to face charges in the case, Morgenthau said (Sportsline)."

I think we all knew that Plaxico was going to get indicted for this, but the real news is that Antonio Pierce can move on from all this. That is big news for the Giants, who had enough distractions last year with this whole mess, and really don't need to start the new year with the same problems...

Coach by Day...Superhero by Night?

According to a firsthand witness Jessica Banks from Wellesley, MA; at approximately 8:30 PM ET on Sunday July 12th, at the restaurant Sonsie in Boston, MA, an aggravated 'homeless' looking male began shouting into the restaurant's open terrace dining area for a brief time before losing his match and being shooed away by what appeared to be a restaurant manager.

The focus of this article however focuses on a particular customer very close in proximity to the event; Head Coach for the Syracuse University Orange Men's Basketball Team, Jim Boeheim. According to Banks, Coach Boeheim was accompanied by three others in a Rolls Royce wielding a large diamond wrist watch and a flat ring sporting another diamond with the number "3" on it upon entry to the terrace dining section of the restaurant.

At an identified time into the dinner, the 'homeless' male began his shouting match into the restaurant. The male continued yelling, "Are you threatening me?! Are you threatening me?!" in a very ungrammatical, irate fashion. Other customers sat quietly and "awkwardly" as the male allegedly, according to Banks, seemed to be directing his rant at someone specific.

Being in such close proximity to the aggressive male, Boeheim then turned slightly toward Banks and a friend who where sitting at the neighboring table. In between Boeheim's knees was a "huge" black pistol with what appeared to be light, laser or site on top. "It looked like it weighed 5 lbs," said Banks. Boeheim kept the gun low, out of sight and "about to cock it".

Upon the male retreating to his shopping cart by the curb and walking away, the restaurant manager went straight to Boeheim's table, apologized, and made him aware that someone is patrolling the surrounding sidewalks. Boeheim tucked his concealed weapon back into his "bermuda shorts".

Possibly in humor or potentially serious, Boeheim turned to the other male at his table and said, "I was about to put two in him..." The male responds, "...yeah thats cool just don't shoot me."

A potentially hazardous situation for a Hall of Fame coach. Jim Boeheim has been coaching the Syracuse Orange for 33 seasons including 25 NCAA appearances, winning seven Big East Regular Season Championships, five Big East Tournament Championships, and three trips the National Championship Game with one victory in 2003. Boeheim also ranks third all-time in career wins with a 799-288 wins to loss ratio (.735) and served as an Assistant Coach for the 2008 United States Men's National Basketball Team in the Summer Olympics that won gold.

Jim Boeheim is by no doubt one of the best basketball coaches of all-time. We as fans can only be thankful that he did not have to use necessary force. It is clear that there have been more than a few gun related incidents involving sports figures and although Boeheim used correct judgment, refrained and appeared to only use it in self-defense, the 'what-if' always remains. Strictly as a precedent, we can refer to one of the most notable mistakes that has occurred in the past year, Plaxico Burress, and from there make opinions of our own.

Burress to Jets

It is sounding more and more like this is actually going to happen...

"In a confirmation that all the key figures in the organization are on board with the move, New York Jets owner Woody Johnson has told Rich Cimini of the New York Daily News that he would not veto a signing of Plaxico Burress by general manager Mike Tannenbaum (ESPN)."

The Jets do not have a #1 WR on their roster right now. If they want Sanchez to succeed at all they are going to have to do a lot better then what they have. Is Burress a shithead? Yes. Should he probably get out of NY? Yes, but I still think this would be a great move by the Jets. You would think Burress (if he doesn't go to jail) will smarten up for at least a little while, and when he is on the field he is one of the better WRs in the game. Keep an eye on this, because once this legal stuff passes I think the Jets are going to be all over this guy.

Jets Contact Burress

"The New York Jets, in the market for a wide receiver, called Plaxico Burress' agent before the NFL draft to look into the former Giants star's legal troubles (ESPN)."

The story goes on to say that the Jets were just seeing how this was all going to turn out. Obviously if Plaxico can somehow get out of this without jail time a team will jump all over him. I think this phone call was to let Plaxico know that they are interested if he is cleared. My guess is eventually Plaxico will end up with community service, probation, and a fine. After that maybe a suspension from the NFL for a couple games. The Jets would become a very interesting team if they were able to scoop up this guy, and certainly would give a nice big target for Sanchez to look to.

Burress Gets 1 Million From Giants

"Plaxico Burress lost his job Friday with the New York Giants, but on Monday he won his grievance against the team for bonuses withheld because of last year's suspension. According to his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, arbitrator Stephen Burbank ruled the Giants must pay Burress a $1 million bonus plus an undisclosed amount for a 2008 roster bonus (ESPN)."

I am sure the Giants are not happy about this, but at least this is the final step of officially getting rid of this idiot. I hate the Giants, but I really respect them for how they handled all this. They didn't let Plaxico run the show, instead they just drew a line in the sand, and when he crossed it they told him to fuck off. You have to love that. Other teams we see get into terrible situations, because they get so fixated on what a player can do on the field. At some point you have to put your foot down. So, even though the Giants are fags, I'll give them credit for this.

Plaxico Burress Gets Released From Giants

The New York Giants released Super Bowl hero Plaxico Burress on Friday, a little more than four months after the talented but troubled wide receiver accidentally shot himself in the thigh in a New York City nightclub.

I hate the Giants, but I respect them a lot for doing this. Plaxico is a cancer to a team and deserves everything he is going to get. The motherfucker shot himself. That is just silly. He was the playmaker for the Giants, and when he didn't play ShEli Manning crumbled. The Giants need to get a tall WR for Eli to be an effective qb again.

Union Goes After Giants

"The NFL players' union filed a grievance contesting the $1 million the New York Giants withheld from Plaxico Burress' signing bonus after he shot himself in the thigh in November at a nightclub (Sportsline)."

What a bunch of bullshit. Burress is a fucking punk and got what he deserved. You shouldn't be shooting a loaded gun in a crowd. He has pushed the Giants to the point that there is just no way they are going to bring this guy back. The union really just fucked any chance that Coughlin might give him another shot. He is going to want to put this all behind him, and he knows the best way to do that is to part ways with this shithead.

I am ashamed he went to Michigan State

Burress Not Coming Back To Giants?

"New York Giants GM Gerry Reese may be willing to welcome Plaxico Burress back, but coach Tom Coughlin said he's not willing to do that yet, according to several reports. "I'm not ready to say that," Coughlin said during an interview on N.Y. radio station WFAN. "We need to sit down and think about it and talk about that and to see what the circumstance might be." Coughlin and Burress were not getting along even before the receiver accidentally shot himself in the leg November 29, Newsday reports (NBCSports.com)."

There is a part of me that completely agrees with Coughlin, but the other part says they need him. Still, I have to side with Coughlin. I know they only went 2-4 when Burress was suspended, but I really like the message Coughlin sends to his team. Basically, "If you are going to act like an asshole, then you are out of here". You have to respect that. He should probably sit down with Burress, and try to work out something, and have a really short leash, but I can't argue with Coughlin if he just says "fuck it, he's gone".

Prediction: They bring him back because the GM wants him back, but Coughlin rides him so hard he demands a trade.

Giants Suspend Burress

"Plaxico Burress returned to Giants Stadium on Tuesday, only to be told that he would be suspended four games and placed on the non-football injury list (ESPN)."

Good move by the Giants, but they should have just cut him. I hate the Giants, but any idiot can see they have gelled better when they don't have "troubled" players. Last year, the Giants ditched Shockey, and went on to run the table. This year, even with how well the Giants have been playing, the news is always on Burress. Since he is on the non-football injury list, his season is over, and will not be able to play when the playoffs start. My guess is that they will cut him right after the season is over, since I don't see Tom Coughlin dealing with this nonsense any longer.

Plaxico Burress Goes To Police

Plaxico Burress arrived at a police station early Monday morning, where he was expected to be charged after accidentally shooting himself in the right thigh.

The New York Giants star wide receiver arrived in a black Cadillac Escalade wearing jeans and a black coat. Burress, who was not visibly limping, did not speak to the media and walked directly into the precinct. ESPN

You know fuck Burress and Fuck all the athletes that get themselves in these situations. Playing in the NFL is a privileged. You are making millions of dollars for playing a sport and that should be appreciated. These athletes are making terrible decisions and Goodell should make Burress pay. I have a couple of questions that I would love to ask Burress.
1. Why do you have a gun?
2. Why don't you have body guards that you can afford?
3. Why are you bringing a gun to a night club?
4 Why would you go to a night club that you feel you so unsafe that you needed a gun?

I believe Plaxico will never be in a Giants uniform again, and I think this Cheddar Bob move deserves him to be suspended for a year.

Plaxico Burress Got Shot

"New York Giants receiver Plaxico Burress suffered an accidental gunshot wound Friday night in a club, according to multiple sources.
Details of the incident weren't immediately available, but according to a source the wound was not considered life-threatening." ESPN

First of all, how do you "accidentally" get shot. Plaxico has always been a flaky personality. He doesn't really get in that much trouble, but he always in the news about something. I personally think Plaxico is a punk and not only is he a fool for getting himself into a situation like this, he deserves to be suspended on top of it.
