Ryota Igarashi agrees to $3M, two-year deal with NYM
"NEW YORK -- Hoping they found their setup man on the other side of the globe, the New York Mets agreed Thursday with Japanese reliever Ryota Igarashi on a $3 million, two-year contract.
The 30-year-old right-hander became the first major addition this offseason for the Mets following a 70-92 debacle that left them with a fourth-place finish in the NL East.
New York thinks Igarashi could fill the role of eighth-inning setup man for All-Star closer Francisco Rodriguez.
"We've had an interest in Ryota for two years," general manager Omar Minaya said in a statement. "He's got a power arm and an outstanding split-finger."
Igarashi went 3-2 with a 3.19 ERA and three saves in 56 games last season in Japan. He struck out 44 and walked 20 in 53 2/3 innings." -ESPN.com
As a Mets fan I will not complain about this signing. I've been saying that I don't understand why the Mets have cannot make the smart rational decisions that even we as mere fans know to make. The Mets need PITCHING, and hitting too, and a new GM but pitching most importantly. Putz was a failure, I can only hope this new japanese setup man won't follow in the footsteps of every failed setup man since 2000.
As for the Bay signing? Honestly, if Jason Bay becomes a New York Metropolitan I will have no choice but to be excited. A power hitter to add some run support for Johan Sanata would be nice in Citi Field; but I don't want Bay. The Mets are notorious for signing players coming off of their contract seasons, in their early or mid 30's, giving them too many years. I trust that Jason Bay would be a great hitter in NY and in the National League again but look at Beltran for example; 32 years old, 19 million dollars in 2009 and hit amazingggggg .325 10 hr 48 rbi and 11 sb....but only played 81 games with TWO messed up knees that are only getting worse.
My Mets Plan:

> Sign and trade Bay
> Dump Luis (fuck face) Castillo and Carlos Delgado (FA)
> Keep Santana, Wright, Reyes, Krod and Pelfry; If your not one of those 5 guys...go the fuck awayyyyyyyyyyyy...rebuild
If the Mets think they have a shot at winning the World Series in 2010 with that team HAHA...I might as well let a Phillies fan laugh and slap me to remind me they just got Roy Halladay
Ochocinco Reacts to Chris Henry Death
It will be very interesting to see how the Bengals approach the rest of the season after the passing of Chris Henry. Mark Schlereth put it well on ESPN when he was was talking about how players move on in the NFL. He went on to explain as a former player how his teammates would have horrific season or career ending injuries and the team would simply move the practice to the other side of field rather than stopping. You cannot compare injury to death but the point being made is the Begals don't have a choice, they're playing the San Diego Chargers on Sunday and they need a big win.
Mike Shanahan in talks with Redskins
"The Redskins and former Broncos coach Mike Shanahan have begun talks over Washington's still-occupied head-coaching position, The Denver Post has reported, a day after the team hired a new general manager.
The Redskins on Thursday hired Bruce Allen, son of late Redskins Hall of Fame coach George Allen, after Vinny Cerrato abruptly resigned."

The NFL is really comical this season in many ways. I think it is amazing there are so many terrible teams, with terrible quarterbacks, terrible defenses and terrible coaches This is all while outstanding coaches such as Mike Shanahan, John Gruden, Bill Cower, Steve Mariucci, Mike Martz, Dennis Green, Brian Billick, Herman Edwards, Marty Schottenheimer, and others remain out of a Head Coaching position. Wade Phillips is going to to be done in Dallas after this year in my opinion; or at least if I was Jerry Jones I'd fire him.
The Redskins? They have a lot of work to do on their team but even more on their organization. I think Mike Shanahan would do a great job helping to re-build their team and some of their image. Shanahan as the GM would bring in all the correct coaches to make his old Broncos system work; note: Shanahan would NOT be the Head Coach. In his old Broncos running game, he could just rotate any fast running back into the system and it would be successful; I would list the notable running backs under Shanahan but there are too many so I'll just note Clinton Potis (currently on IR with the Redskins).
Colts def Jags 35-31. Move to 14-0

The Colts continue to roll. Everyone should really be paying attention to this team because it is remarkable what they have been accomplishing. I've lost count, but their regular season winning streak blows that Patriots season out of the water in my opinion. Sure you Pats fan are going to be bitter about me saying that but I do believe that 07 Patriots team was still the best team ever. DP ask me the other night, "Scott would you say that if the Colts or the Saints go undefeated through the Super Bowl that that team would be the best in history?" and I stick by my answer "no" (note: I'm a Giants fan). However, do I think that Tom Brady is a better Quarterback than Peyton Manning? Again, my answer is "no". Nothing against Brady at all, but I think the Peyton Manning, regardless of having only one ring, could be the greatest QB to ever play the game.

Chad Ochocinco wants to fight Shawne Merriman for real
Ochocinco has came out and not been descret about his dislike for Shawne Merriman recent. Here are some of the quotes in no chronological order:
"I think back when we played last time," he continued. "I can't remember. I don't know. You know what, I think I copied his dance after I scored, and I think it pissed him off." -Ochocinco
"Tough? Why? That's not how I look at things. I'll whoop his ass, right now, like Will Ferrell. Yeah, like in 'Step Brothers."' -Merriman

My Take:
I love Ochocinco with a passion. I think his antics are wildly hilarious and it's great for the game. Other than the many times his mouth and some of his actions have gotten him in trouble with his team, his lively flavor and attitude is fun to watch. The man certainly works extremely hard and has elite talent....but not....as a fighter against Shawne "steroids" Merriman. Did everyone just overlook and forget that it was only 2 seasons ago that Merriman was suspended four games for taking performance enhancing drugs? *This whole only four games thing in the NFL blows my mind but I'll save that article for the next player that gets caught and no one cares. Anyway, back to the fight...is Ochocinco seeing the size of Merriman? Merriman is a fucking monster to put it boldly and frank. Like I said I'll be one of the first people to defend Ochocinco's actions but if this is real, I'm genuinely concern for the injury that would keep Ochocinco off the field come the hopeful playoff run. Being as all these quotes came before Chris Henry's death this morning, I don't see Ochocinco or Merriman even caring about one another. Sure they will hit each other a few times during the game but beyond that, they're going to play and leave.
Ocho...if you read this...here is your touchdown celebration sunday if you want to keep stickin' it to that "lights out" bullshit (obviously it comes with a fine almost equal to my yearly salary but I respect it every time):
>Bring a battery powered lamp (turned on all game)...bring it either to the endzone or the Charger's sideline and simply just turn it off......and only if your winning.
I can't think of anything that would be more subtle that would piss off Merriman more than that. And for the record, Step Bothers is a fantastic movie...kiss the baby Shawne Merriman you Tia Tequila Chris Browner

House of Reps approves to create NCAA FB playoff system
"WASHINGTON -- A House subcommittee has approved legislation aimed at forcing college football to switch to a playoff system to determine a national champion.
The bill would ban the promotion of a postseason NCAA Division I football game as a national championship unless that title contest is the result of a playoff."

Personally I love it; this is a large step toward a playoff system in college football. I don't know if I agree on congress having to step in and pass legislation for it but if congress is voting for the people they represent, then they're voting correctly. They're have been many arguments over whether the BCS system is fair or not and hopefully soon, that argument will be null and void.4 Teams? 6 Teams? 8 Teams? 12?? What do you think? There will be much more reporting on the BCS vs. Playoff system soon to come here on DC, stay tuned.

Will Eastern Michigan Win Tonight?
0-10 Eastern Michigan faces off against 4-6 Toledo in the epic battle between good and evil! No the game is not televised and no I don't care who wins but if your actually looking for a game to watch tonight the best college football game on is #6 Boise St. (10-0) vs. Utah St. (3-7) on ESPN2 @ 9:30...
...but that game sucks too so make sure your watchin' the Magic @ the Celtics tonight 8pm...a true test of what the Celtics can do. Unfortunately I'm predicting Dwight Howard to have a superman night and dominate...I'd love to be wrong.

Hines Ward needs a shower
"Hines Ward is the dirtiest player in the NFL, according to a Sports Illustrated poll of 296 players released this week.
The Steelers' wide receiver, long considered the league's best blocking wide receiver, received 11.6 percent of the vote. He was followed by Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth (6.0), Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter (6.0), Bengals safety Roy Williams (5.1) and Titans center Kevin Mawae (4.6). Titans cornerback Cortland Finnegan (4.2), Rams guard Richie Incognito (3.7), Falcons guard Harvey Dahl (3.7), Steelers safety Troy Polamalu (3.7) and Vikings defensive end Jared Allen (3.2) rounded out the top 10.

Ward, 33, has a long history of physical play. Last October, he was fined $15,000 for hits in back-to-back weeks that weren't penalized during the game. Later that month, Ward broke the jaw of Bengals rookie linebacker Keith Rivers with a surprise downfield block. The hit, which ended Rivers' season, did not draw a flag. "That's what he's known for," Bengals safety Chinedum Ndukwe said. "He's a blind-side guy."
Discussing his reputation with SI last year, Ward said, "It's hard to sit there and tell everybody it's a violent sport but tone it down a little. When I go across the middle, those guys aren't going to tackle me softly and lay me down to the ground. That's not football. I find it ironic that now you see a receiver delivering blows, and it's an issue. But I haven't changed. I've been doing it this way for 11 years."
The poll was conducted in September and included some well-known names in the top 20: Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis (3.2 percent), Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman (2.3 percent) and Jets linebacker Bart Scott (2.3 percent). Former Patriots safety Rodney Harrison, who retired last summer, received three votes.
The Broncos' Brandon Marshall, the only other receiver listed in the poll, received one vote. No running backs were selected, but one quarterback did get a vote: the Titans' Vince Young."
