Rick Adelman Out As Coach Of The Rockets

Speaking of a guy with an unlucky coaching tenure. Figuring he had to deal with Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming constantly being injured he did a real good job. Rick went 193-135 in four seasons with the Rockets. The .588 winning percentage was the highest among the 11 full-time coaches the franchise has had. Adelman led the Rockets to their only playoff series victory since 1997. His career record is 945-616 and ranks eighth in all-time wins.

The reason why this is important? Because Doc is most likely going to leave after this year and so it's fun to look at plan Bs. We've heard the name Jerry Sloan, Lawrence Frank and I think you can add Rick Adelman to that too.

Norv Turner Gets Extended To 2013

In a curious move the San Diego Chargers have locked up coach Norv Turner until 2013. The Chargers choked once again in the playoffs like always, and this offseason is set to be a very interesting one. The Chargers and Norv Turner have some decisions to be made about aging rb LaDainian Tomlinson and overrated LB Shawn Merriman. There is speculation that both will be cut, but I would have to say if I were the Chargers, I would most likely keep LT. Darren Sproles isn't a full time runningback, and so that means they will have to draft one in the first 3 rounds. They are going to need to groom that guy, so having one of the best runningbacks of our generation training him, isn't a bad idea. As for Shawn Marriman, I think he is all but gone. He hasn't been the same after the knee injury and has become severely injury prone since then.

Tyronn Lue Joins Celtics' Coaching Staff

"Tyronn Lue had already been in the league five years and won a pair of championship rings with the Lakers when he arrived in Orlando in 2003, Doc Rivers’ last season as head coach of the Magic. Rivers only lasted 11 games as head coach that season, but point guard-to-point guard he and Lue saw things the same way. Two years ago, when Rivers was winning a championship in Boston and Lue was a veteran reserve with the Magic, Rivers had talked to Lue.

“There’s guys you coach all the time that you say, ‘He’ll be a coach.’ And Ty Lue was on the top of that list,” Rivers said. “I told him when you’re ready to stop trying to play basketball and you want to come sit on the bench and join us, we’ll create it,” Rivers said. “No matter how many coaches we have, I’ll get you a job.”

Lue took him up on the offer, joining Rivers’ staff as director of basketball development. He was at practice today in Waltham. He’ll be Rivers’ fifth assistant (Boston.com)."

I have no idea why, but I have always hated Tyronn Lue. I am glad he is not playing for us, and they even came out and stated there is zero chance he will suit up for the Celtics. I guess it is good to have a guy on the staff that can actually still play ball. Rivers loves having former players, so whatever makes Rivers happy I am fine with....

Coach by Day...Superhero by Night?

According to a firsthand witness Jessica Banks from Wellesley, MA; at approximately 8:30 PM ET on Sunday July 12th, at the restaurant Sonsie in Boston, MA, an aggravated 'homeless' looking male began shouting into the restaurant's open terrace dining area for a brief time before losing his match and being shooed away by what appeared to be a restaurant manager.

The focus of this article however focuses on a particular customer very close in proximity to the event; Head Coach for the Syracuse University Orange Men's Basketball Team, Jim Boeheim. According to Banks, Coach Boeheim was accompanied by three others in a Rolls Royce wielding a large diamond wrist watch and a flat ring sporting another diamond with the number "3" on it upon entry to the terrace dining section of the restaurant.

At an identified time into the dinner, the 'homeless' male began his shouting match into the restaurant. The male continued yelling, "Are you threatening me?! Are you threatening me?!" in a very ungrammatical, irate fashion. Other customers sat quietly and "awkwardly" as the male allegedly, according to Banks, seemed to be directing his rant at someone specific.

Being in such close proximity to the aggressive male, Boeheim then turned slightly toward Banks and a friend who where sitting at the neighboring table. In between Boeheim's knees was a "huge" black pistol with what appeared to be light, laser or site on top. "It looked like it weighed 5 lbs," said Banks. Boeheim kept the gun low, out of sight and "about to cock it".

Upon the male retreating to his shopping cart by the curb and walking away, the restaurant manager went straight to Boeheim's table, apologized, and made him aware that someone is patrolling the surrounding sidewalks. Boeheim tucked his concealed weapon back into his "bermuda shorts".

Possibly in humor or potentially serious, Boeheim turned to the other male at his table and said, "I was about to put two in him..." The male responds, "...yeah thats cool just don't shoot me."

A potentially hazardous situation for a Hall of Fame coach. Jim Boeheim has been coaching the Syracuse Orange for 33 seasons including 25 NCAA appearances, winning seven Big East Regular Season Championships, five Big East Tournament Championships, and three trips the National Championship Game with one victory in 2003. Boeheim also ranks third all-time in career wins with a 799-288 wins to loss ratio (.735) and served as an Assistant Coach for the 2008 United States Men's National Basketball Team in the Summer Olympics that won gold.

Jim Boeheim is by no doubt one of the best basketball coaches of all-time. We as fans can only be thankful that he did not have to use necessary force. It is clear that there have been more than a few gun related incidents involving sports figures and although Boeheim used correct judgment, refrained and appeared to only use it in self-defense, the 'what-if' always remains. Strictly as a precedent, we can refer to one of the most notable mistakes that has occurred in the past year, Plaxico Burress, and from there make opinions of our own.

Rex Ryan To Coach Jets

Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan has agreed to a four-year contract to become coach of the New York Jets, according to multiple sources. ESPN

Rex Ryan is a hell of a coach and can make the Jets into a superior defensive team. Ryan has led the Baltimore ravens to countless top ranked defenses and his philosophy and charisma can be transfered to the Jets. The Jets have some good pieces on defense so I'm not worried about that, however, the main concern should be what is going to happen to the offense and that shit head Brett Favre. If I were Ryan, I would pray every night that the team killer retires so he doesn't have to deal with him. The Jets will take a step back next year, but the year after that, I smell greatness.

McDaniels to Coach Broncos

I don't get this signing. I know the Broncos can put up points, but don't they need a more defensive orientated guy? The problem with the Broncos hasn't been so much their offense, it has been their terrible defense that makes them a mediocre team.

The instant impact of this signing will be a huge year for Cutler. I know for fantasy football I am going to look to get Cutler, Marshall, Royal and who ever else is going to be affiliated with their offense.

My early prediction is that the Broncos will go 9-7 next year and be a wild card team.

Steve Sarkisian Gets The Washington Job

"USC offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian will be named Washington coach, multiple sources told ESPN on Thursday night."

The reason I am reporting this isn't because I care about Washington or Steve Sarkisian. It's because this means Mike Leach Texas Tech's coach is probably going to Auburn. He apparently visited Washington last week, however this hiring means that Auburn probably has the 1rst pick of any premier coach. Mike Leach should go to Auburn because frankly Auburn is a way prestigious football program than pretty much any available job.

Everything's Back To Normal At K-State

Former Kansas State coach Bill Snyder will return to coach the program and will be introduced at a news conference on Monday, sources said Sunday.
Snyder will return to the Wildcats after three years away. Snyder, who is 69 years old, compiled a 136-68-1 record at Kansas State from 1989-2005. He replaces Ron Prince, who finished with a 5-7 record this season and 17-20 overall in three seasons with the Wildcats.

This is actually really awesome. Bill Snyder is one of the best coaches in college football and is returning to bring K-State back to greatness. The Ron Price experiment is finally over and now Bill Snyder will lead this team to the Big 12 championship next year. Him and Josh Freeman make the Big Twelves most deadly duo. Freeman has all the tools(34 TDs this year) and Snyder knows how to utilize them.

Mariners Hire Wakamatsu

"Don Wakamatsu became the first Asian-American manager in major league baseball history when he was hired Wednesday by the Seattle Mariners. The 14th manager in Mariners history, Wakamatsu was bench coach for the Oakland Athletics last season. Before that he spent five years with the Texas Rangers (ESPN)."

Well Wakamatsu enjoy your time in the sun, because it is going to be a tough job to turnaround this sad franchise. Seattle was horrible last year, but they do have some young players that could turn the team around. The question is...how long will it take? A lot of times coaches come into a job like this, and are fired right before the team is able to turn the corner. I think this guy can do it though, since he has seen Oakland build teams from the ground up.

Mike D'Antoni Signs With Knicks, Rick Carlisle Signs With Mavs

Both are good moves. Let me start with D'Antoni, no one knows what is going to happen with trades and everything, but he can get the group of convicts, known as the Knicks, in order and maybe get on a winning pace. I see him being able to run an offense similar to Shaq in Phoenix with Curry and Randolph, and maybe even get some fast breaks going. We all know D'Antoni will be able to get the Knicks more points on the board but will they be able to stop anyone?

I love Rick Carlisle and think he did a great job in Detroit and Indiana. He does well with veteran teams and with a team thats window is all but shut he should be able to get at least 2 good seasons out of them.

Both deals were 4 years around 30 million

Who's Slimier - College BB Coaches or Ticket Scalpers?

Serious question.

Sometimes on the way into the Garden or Fenway Park, I walk by those shady characters in leather jackets and stonewashed jeans hawking overpriced tickets for seats with obstructed views and I feel really dirty. Just being around them leaves me aching for a shower. I'm pretty sure I'd get the same feeling if I spent any quality time with a D1 college basketball coach.

To be fair, I'm not speaking to every coach out there, just 75% of them. I don't want to include the good guys like Coach K, Chris Collins, Johnny Dawkins or Steve Wojciechowski. You know the 75% I'm talking about - Bobby Knight, Eddie Sutton, Jerry Tarkanian, Kelvin Sampson, Quin Snyder, Jim Harrick (Sr and Jr), Bob Huggins, Billy Gillespie, John Calipari, Rick Pitino, etc, etc... Jesus, I think I could go all day naming skeevy coaches.

You know who the shadiest of all is? Braintree, MA's own Jim Calhoun. God I fucking hate this guy. He left his ethics at the door some 36 years ago and hasn't been back to pick them up since. It seems like every two or three years he finds himself in some moral quandary in which he almost always sides with the devil.

UCONN lost a nail biter to struggling Villanova on Saturday. During the game, reserve Curtis Kelly went down with a dislocated elbow and the Huskies found themselves sucking wind down the stretch with limited depth and some foul trouble. UCONN had won their previous ten games and were sitting pretty at 4th in the Big East. With Kelly gone for the season and Marquette nipping at their heels, what better time to reinstate Jerome Dyson who had been suspended for the previous nine games for a failed drug test.

Unbelievable how the rules only apply so long as the player is in no position to help Jimbo's team. This is almost identical to the controversy surrounding Marcus Williams during the 2005/2006 season where he and teammate A.J. Price swiped some laptops from campus dorms. Both were suspended but when it became apparent that UCONN's success depended on their stud point guard, Williams was reinstated while Price was forced to sit out the season. Typical horseshit move by a horseshit coach.
