Oh So That's What Carl Everett's Up To (UPDATED)

"Former major league outfielder Carl Everett is in a Tampa jail on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and tampering with a witness. Jail records indicate the 39-year-old Everett was arrested Monday night at his suburban Tampa home. He was booked into the Hillsborough County Jail shortly after midnight and is being held without bond. Details of the arrest were not immediately available. Everett's attorney, Clinton Paris, did not immediately return a call for comment (ESPN)."

I was just thinking the other day, "I wonder what Carl Everett is up to these days", and this is probably the least shocking news. Carl Everett really should be in a insane asylum. Let's just quickly go over this guy's questionable moments...

- Headbutting an ump
- Shouting match with Seattle manager Mike Hargrove
- Saying he would retire if he found out a teammate of his was gay.
- Questioning the Apollo Moon Landing.

And my person favorite...

- Carl Everett's denial of the existence of dinosaurs. "God created the sun, the stars, the heavens and the earth, and then made Adam and Eve. The Bible never says anything about dinosaurs. You can't say there were dinosaurs when you never saw them. Somebody actually saw Adam and Eve. No one ever saw a Tyrannosaurus rex." He also derided fossils of dinosaur bones as man-made fakes (wiki)."

Yea, he's a pretty crazy guy, so to find out that he is out beating people up is really not all that shocking. At least we can say he was entertaining.

***UPDATE***

"The report states that the argument between the former big leaguer and Linda Everett escalated when he pointed a silver handgun at her head. When she attempted to call 911 on two different occasions, with two different phones, Everett broke both calling devices. The couple has been married for 18 years (WEEI)."

Sounds about right.

This Whole Rays Burglary Thing Gets Interesting

I am sure you guys all saw the story yesterday that the summer home of David Price, Evan Longoria, and Reid Brignac was broken in to. The burglars took a 60 inch HDTV, watches, jewelry, ect. I didn't think much of it, I mean shit happens. Then I read this today...

"But we hadn't heard about a certain "personal item" that belonged to Longoria. Nothing too important, you know, just your average run-of-the-mill ... AK-47 assault rifle. "It's a personal item," Longoria on Monday afternoon, before the Rays game against the Yankees at Steinbrenner Field. "Obviously they're going to say things that are taken. I think everything within the house is personal and we'll just leave it at that (Yahoo)."

Ummm, WTF? There is really no reason ever to have an AK-47. Honestly, lets think about this for a second. What are the reasons to have a gun?

Personal Protection - Well unless Cuba decides to invade Florida, I think he is all set with that much fire power.

Hunting - That's a little aggressive to take down a deer.

I have only come up with one idea. Evan Longoria is the Punisher. It makes sense. I don't really hear too much about what he does in the offseason, and I could totally picture him being a badass. Maybe him and Delonte can hangout and go all Mad Max on the South. Anyways, crazy story and I will not be asking Longoria for an autograph anytime soon.

Brandon Meriweather Shot Two People? (UPDATED)

Very odd story coming from Florida today...

"According to Deadspin, Patriots safety Brandon Meriweather allegedly shot two men outside a house party in Apopka, Fla., Feb. 27. The incident, which reportedly includes one of the men getting shot in the head, was being reported by the attorney for the two victims, John Morgan.

The report states that a friend of Meriweather allegedly beat up a woman outside the Blue Jeans Lounge, leading to the woman's brother to arrive with his own acquaintance. The story states with the brother proceeded to beat up the New England player's friend in a fight, leading Meriweather to fire a gun at the brother of the woman. The bullet, according to Morgan, grazed the woman's brother in the face, while hitting the other victim in the head.

According to the report, detectives from the Orange County Sheriff's Office have made no arrests, but continue to investigate the case. Former Miami football player, and current Florida sports talk radio host, Dan Sileo first mentioned the shooting (WEEI)."

When I first read this I wrote off that we would never see Meriweather again in a Patriots uniform or in the NFL, but as I have been reading more there are so many holes in this story that it's starting to get hard to believe.

1. When the police station was called they said they had no investigation into Brandon Meriweather.
2. This happened over 10 days ago, there should be an arrest if someone was actually shot in the head.
3. This "lawyer" that broke this whole story to the radio station was just on WEEI and he said he doesn't know if he believes his clients (the 2 people who were shot). Plus, he is just an ambulance chaser, and how do you not back your own client?

Now, saying all of that, we also have to say that this isn't the first time Brandon Meriweather has been in trouble for using a gun. When he was in college (2006) he shot at someone, but was never charged, and it was never proven that he actually hit anyone. So, I wouldn't be all that surprised if this turned out to be true.

I am sure the NFL is going to look into this, but there is so much misinformation out there right now, so be careful what you believe.

We will keep you posted when REAL facts come out.

***UPDATE***

"There is an incident," a spokesman for the Sheriff's Department told CBSSports.com. "But we do not have confirmation that [Meriweather] was involved in any shape or form. "There is no such confirmation." The Sheriff's Department did add that a case, involving the shootings in question, "is still active (CBS Sports)."

Also, there have reports that Meriweathers "camp" is denying these allegations.

Why not hear what Marcellus Wiley has to say about Ryan Leaf and guns?

I was listening to The Doug Gottlieb Show on my way home from work yesterday, and Marcellus Wiley was on to discuss a number of topics, ranging from Mark Ingram to Matt Leinart and even a little Dancing With the Stars. Marcellus, always well-spoken as any Ivy League alumnus would be, also offered up some tales about Ryan Leaf and a great little tidbit about his interactions with guns as an NFL player.

I've searched all over for the audio for this, but ESPN surprisingly chose not to include this in their snipets of the day's show, and no one else seems to have it either. But in case you missed it, I'll paraphrase because they're too good not to share. First, the Ryan Leaf story.

We all know the well documented struggles of the QB bust out of Wazzu. Upon getting to the Chargers though, Marcellus learned that the legend of Ryan Leaf has more to it. Apparently, at one point during a poor stretch of his rookie season, Leaf didn't seem to concerned with the poor play and would often be seen laughing and yucking it up after bad losses. This behavior continued upon landing in the team charter where three limos ready to party were awaiting Leaf and whoever wanted to head out. Keep in mind this is the plane that also has the owner, GM, team president and the like aboard. Smartly, everyone else on the plane passes not wanting to make a bad impression. Leaf continues this smug and nonchalant attitude for a number of games in which the team lost. Apparently, according to Wiley, the team got so fed up with it they decided to teach him a little lesson. Wiley said on the show yesterday that linemen on the team were basically telling the opposing D line, "Hey you want a shot at this guy? Come over here. Go through me, this is the best place to get it." And he was repeatedly sacked very hard with the help of his offensive linemen!

Hahahaha Good for them. I've seen shit like that in movies, but never really thought it happened in the NFL.

Now for the guns story. This one is even better.

News broke yesterday afternoon that Plaxico Burress will likely be serving out his full sentence in prison, as he was denied a 2nd work release. (This is stupid, but I'll save this argument for another day.) So the conversation moved to guns and NFL players and Wiley was asked if he was ever in a situation in which guns were involved as an NFL player. Wiley, who is not a proponent of players having guns, surprisingly said, "Oh yea. I almost got killed." My ears perked up. He went on to tell a story about how he was leaving a night club in LA in his brand new ride with some of his boys. Traffic around the club was at a standstill and some of his boys had hopped out and were milling around and hollerin' at some hoes and such. Well things got ugly quick when one of his boys apparently talked to the wrong girl and set some dude off. The guy says, "OK..hold up. And he goes back to his car, and he grabs something and starts coming back toward us," Wiley said. There was nowhere for him to run, nowhere to move his car and this dude is marching over to his whip totin' a pistol and ready to pop one in Wiley's ass. He was apparently only about 20 yards away from the car when out of nowhere some guy comes flying and shoves the dude in the chest, saying, "Yo leave him alone, man. He's with me. He plays ball. He's cool." This person who saved the day? None other than Willie McGinest!

Unbelievable. Apparently, Willie somewhat knew the guy so he was able to squash the beef or whatever the kids are sayin' these days. Marcellus says that he has "Willie to thank for his life."

WOW! This was some good radio. I hope that I can find the link for you. Kinda made me like Wiley a little bit more for sharing these stories. I know a lot of athletes have stories like this but they're reluctant to share with the public. Anyway, just thought it was interesting. Willie! I'll be damned.

DC's PSA About Guns

Dueling Couches would like to take a second and talk about gun safety. After watching Plaxico Burress shoot himself and now this story...

"Police say a man accidentally shot himself in the testicles at a Lynnwood department store. Police spokeswoman Shannon Sessions says the man was carrying his handgun in his waistband and it accidentally went off about noon Sunday. She says he was wounded in the testicles and also in his leg and foot. No one else was hurt (mynorthwest.com)."

People, I know in the movies people have guns in their waistband, and it looks cool, but waitbands are just not really a good place to have a gun. It's unstable, so if you're going to do it at least have it in the back, because getting shot in the dick is just weak...

Don't Have Ammo Mailed To Your Dorm

Ohhhh this is classic.

Ryan Beauchamp was arrested Wednesday on a weapons possession charge. The Florida Atlantic University student had ammunition mailed to him at the Boca Raton campus for his 9 mm handgun, police said (great idea right?). Someone in the mail office notified police about a suspicious package. The police tracked it back to an ammunition supplier and contacted Beauchamp, FAU Police Chief Charles Lowe said.

"We checked Facebook and with a combination other things, we found he did posses a weapon," Lowe said.

Police were seeking a search warrant when Beauchamp gave them consent to search his room, where the gun was found, the chief said (sun-sentinel).

Couple things we can learn here. First off everyone in the South has a gun, so this shouldn't be shocking, but the main point I want to make here is that you really need to be smart about this whole Facebook thing. I have read more stories about kids getting busted for something, because they have pics up (or said something) on Facebook or MySpace.

So if you don't have a permit for your gun and you are trying to smuggle ammo onto your campus, at least be smart enough not to have pictures on the interest of you showing off your gun.

What The Hell Is Wrong With Athletes Today?

Seems like every week we have to report a story in which some athlete from either basketball or football do something crazy. This time it is the fullback from the Cowboys (Deon Anderson). He apparently has been charged with misdemeanor deadly conduct after he allegedly threatened a restaurant employee with a gun during a dispute early Tuesday morning.

Honestly, WHAT THE FUCK?????

Are athletes just this fucking stupid. You get to make a living off working out and playing sports, and yet you have to act like you're still "hood" and whip out your gun every time you don't like something. I don't want to just bust on Anderson, because that really isn't fair, since I don't know the whole story, but seemingly every week, some players fucking looses it and does something stupid.

Both leagues have been trying to squash this problem. The NFL suspends players almost automatically for these kinds of incidents, and after the Arena's fiasco the NBA seems to be following a similar logic, but is it enough? Apparently not, because these fucking morons just keep doing it. So the only way to fight back is to make even harsher suspensions and fines, until it gets to the point where they either follow the rules like every other citizen in the US, or can't play professional sports anymore.

NBA Suspend Arenas Indefinitely

"The NBA has suspended the Washington Wizards' Gilbert Arenas indefinitely.

"Although it is clear that the actions of Mr. Arenas will ultimately result in a substantial suspension, and perhaps worse, his ongoing conduct has led me to conclude that he is not currently fit to take the court in an NBA game," commissioner David Stern said in a statement Wednesday. "Accordingly, I am suspending Mr. Arenas indefinitely, without pay, effective immediately pending the completion of the investigation by the NBA (ESPN)."

Good for the Stern. Stern should have stepped up and did this right when the story came out, and he admitted to having a gun in the locker room. At least he finally stepped up and took this guy off the court. He is a fucking useless player, who used to be good, and thought he could get away with whatever he wanted. Welcome back to reality Arenas....

Hopefully they will be able to void his contract soon.

More Evidence That Wizrds Might Void Arenas' Contract?

"Wizards president Ernie Grunfeld, according to sources, was the person who reported this gun incident to the league, and already has begun looking into voiding Arenas' contract," he writes. " ... If Arenas receives a serious charge from D.C. law enforcement, the Wizards certainly would have grounds to do so because of the 'morality clause' which gives a team permission to terminate their contract with a player over a breech of contract. However, a source close to Arenas told me that say he didn't receive jail time and the Wizards did still try to void his contract, the guard would fight tooth and nail, getting the players union to battle on his behalf and taking further legal action if needs be in an attempt to making that happen. If Arenas is charged with a felony, however, he doesn't have much of a leg to stand on (Washington Times)."

The Wizards would have to love to see Arenas get in a lot of trouble for having a gun. Arenas has not been the same player since his knee injuries, and the Wizards are stuck with him and his terrible contract. If the Wizards were able to void the deal then they could become players in the 2010 free agent signings next offseason, which has guys like Lebron, Wade, and Bosh in it. The Wizards could also rework the whole team if they were able to void the contract, and then trade a player like Butler or Jamison.

Anyways, I can't stand Arenas, so hopefully he gets busted...

3 Vols Players Charged With Attempted Armed Robbery

"Three freshmen Tennessee football players, including highly touted wide receiver recruit Nu'Keese Richardson and starting safety Janzen Jackson, were charged with attempted armed robbery Thursday morning. Richardson, 18, and Jackson, 18, along with defensive back Mike Edwards, 18, and companion Marie Montmarquet, 22, were charged after a report of an armed robbery at a gas station in an area known as "The Strip" at the edge of Tennessee's campus (Sportsline)."

What a bunch of fucking idiots. You have a free ride through college and you throw it all away to steals some money from a fucking gas station? Sorry, that's retarded. This is really going to hurt this rebuilding program, and it is too bad because I like Kiffin a lot, but this is something that could set back his plans for the Tenn program.

Vicente Padilla Recovering From Gunshot

"Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Vicente Padilla was treated for a minor gunshot wound suffered Tuesday during a hunting accident in Nicaragua, his agent said, according to the Los Angeles Times. Padilla's agent, Adam Katz, said the pitcher's right thigh was grazed by a bullet. Padilla sought treatment at a local hospital and was discharged after 30 to 40 minutes, the newspaper reported.

"He's fine," Katz said.

The Times said that according to media reports in Nicaragua, Padilla was injured at a shooting range. At least two reports stated that Padilla, 32, was accidentally shot by a bodyguard who was attempting to fix Padilla's gun (ESPN)."

HAHAHAHAHAHA. Padilla is such a fucking mess. He pisses every team he joins off. He is a drunk, and now he has been shot. Nice job Padilla...by the way you are only 32 and you look like you're 50.

Miami Rapper Robbed At Gunpoint

Welp ... there goes your credibility! Watch @ about 1:45 into the video, the cop makes some pretty hilarioius remarks about the whole thing.
