Kid Who's Chasing Some Record In NCAA Baseball Gets All Rapey

Garrett Wittels was accused of raping a 17-year-old teenage tourist on Dec. 20 while on a visit to the archipelago east of Florida. The 20-year-old infielder ended last season with the second-longest hitting streak in NCAA Division I history, two behind the 58-game run by Oklahoma State’s Robin Ventura in 1987. USA Today

Well this blows, this kid had a great opportunity to bring a record to college baseball but instead its going to be marred in rape. Most likely this kid is guilty and hoes were not trippin in this case. Pretty much no one knows who a college baseball player is so I'm going to assume that he did it. And if that's the case the NCAA can't possibly let him have the NCAA hit streak record.

And to hurt his case even more, he and his friends went to the Bahamas his two friends also had charges of rape on them as well:
Two of Wittels’ friends also face rape charges, officials said.

Robert Rothschild, 21, of New York, was accused of raping two 17-year-old girls, while Jonathan Oberti, 21, also of New York, was charged with raping one, according to Bahamian court officials.

So this is a case were hoes were not trippin and the guys were actually scumbags. A Holes.

College Baseball Tourney Implements "Pitch Clock"

Remember in April when umpires complained about Red Sox/Yankees games lasting too long? I don't recall many people objecting. Well the Southeastern Conference has tried something to keep game lengths from getting out of hand: a pitch clock.

How it worked:
A clock in centerfield ticked from 20 seconds once the pitcher got the ball back from the catcher. The clock only ran when there were no runners on base. The batter had to be in the box with 5 seconds remaining. A violation by the pitcher would result in a ball added to the count. A violation by the batter would add a strike. There was also a 108 second clock that ran between innings.

How well it worked:
Excellently. There were no violations. Average time of game at the tournament was reduced by 15 minutes compared to the year before. Part of that was due to excellent starting pitching, but most of it was apparently due to the rushed pace brought about by the clock.

Could it work in the Majors?
I don't think so. The idea of clocks and baseball is irksome. It just doesn't feel right. And you'd never get the players to agree to it. College baseball can push players around, and the kids will hustle for the clock. Major Leaguers would push the limit of the clock, then bitch when penalized a strike or a ball.

But I do think the Majors could do something to make the games a bit shorter. Rather, to keep them from extending too long. But clocks aren't the answer. Limiting batters to 1 time-out per plate appearance, limiting catchers to 1 mound visit per inning (not counting visits with coaches), and cloning Mark Beuhrle. Those are the answers.

Brad Stevens Gets 12 Year Deal From Butler

Usually when contracts are this long I question it, but this guy is only 33 years old (looks more like 25), and just gave Butler their best year they have ever had. Butler won a school-record 33 games and made it to the finals of the NCAA Tournament. I really like that Stevens decided to stay instead of jumping to a big conference. With the parody happening now in college basketball maybe that's not such a bad thing. Butler should be in the tourney every year, and more recruits have to be looking their after the year they just had.

Coach by Day...Superhero by Night?

According to a firsthand witness Jessica Banks from Wellesley, MA; at approximately 8:30 PM ET on Sunday July 12th, at the restaurant Sonsie in Boston, MA, an aggravated 'homeless' looking male began shouting into the restaurant's open terrace dining area for a brief time before losing his match and being shooed away by what appeared to be a restaurant manager.

The focus of this article however focuses on a particular customer very close in proximity to the event; Head Coach for the Syracuse University Orange Men's Basketball Team, Jim Boeheim. According to Banks, Coach Boeheim was accompanied by three others in a Rolls Royce wielding a large diamond wrist watch and a flat ring sporting another diamond with the number "3" on it upon entry to the terrace dining section of the restaurant.

At an identified time into the dinner, the 'homeless' male began his shouting match into the restaurant. The male continued yelling, "Are you threatening me?! Are you threatening me?!" in a very ungrammatical, irate fashion. Other customers sat quietly and "awkwardly" as the male allegedly, according to Banks, seemed to be directing his rant at someone specific.

Being in such close proximity to the aggressive male, Boeheim then turned slightly toward Banks and a friend who where sitting at the neighboring table. In between Boeheim's knees was a "huge" black pistol with what appeared to be light, laser or site on top. "It looked like it weighed 5 lbs," said Banks. Boeheim kept the gun low, out of sight and "about to cock it".

Upon the male retreating to his shopping cart by the curb and walking away, the restaurant manager went straight to Boeheim's table, apologized, and made him aware that someone is patrolling the surrounding sidewalks. Boeheim tucked his concealed weapon back into his "bermuda shorts".

Possibly in humor or potentially serious, Boeheim turned to the other male at his table and said, "I was about to put two in him..." The male responds, "...yeah thats cool just don't shoot me."

A potentially hazardous situation for a Hall of Fame coach. Jim Boeheim has been coaching the Syracuse Orange for 33 seasons including 25 NCAA appearances, winning seven Big East Regular Season Championships, five Big East Tournament Championships, and three trips the National Championship Game with one victory in 2003. Boeheim also ranks third all-time in career wins with a 799-288 wins to loss ratio (.735) and served as an Assistant Coach for the 2008 United States Men's National Basketball Team in the Summer Olympics that won gold.

Jim Boeheim is by no doubt one of the best basketball coaches of all-time. We as fans can only be thankful that he did not have to use necessary force. It is clear that there have been more than a few gun related incidents involving sports figures and although Boeheim used correct judgment, refrained and appeared to only use it in self-defense, the 'what-if' always remains. Strictly as a precedent, we can refer to one of the most notable mistakes that has occurred in the past year, Plaxico Burress, and from there make opinions of our own.

Party In Louisiana: LSU wins College World Series

This was a no brainer from the beginning of the season. LSU had by far the best team from start to finish. And yesterday they mashed Texas 11 to 4 to complete the cycle.

College Football Picks

Last week this man right here finally did something correct with college football picks going 4-0 last week and now is 11 and 7 on the season.

O.K. Getting started, (5) Texas vs Colorado

I really wanted to pick Colorado, I really did. I think this game has upset wrote all over it. Texas has put up huge numbers offensively with help from Colt McCoy and runningbacks Vondrell McGee and Cody Johnson have stepped in for Jamaal Charles perfectly. However, Cody Hawkins and Colorado's defense are nothing to scoff at. If Colorado can pass protect for Hawkins then it will be a long day for the inexperienced Texas secondary.

Texas 28-21

(9) USC vs (23) Oregon

USC is going to be pissed for a couple reasons, 1. USC is coming off a loss 2. Oregon beat them last year. I expect USC to absolutely demolish the Ducks and big. USC has a veteran defense and going against an inexperienced QB Jeremiah Masoli means a big day for USC.

USC 41-17

(14) Ohio State vs (18) Wisconsin

Terrelle Pryor is the best player on the field and that is saying a lot figuring he is a freshman and sharing the field with Beanie Wells. I think that those two will be able to tear apart the Wisconsin defense and Pryor will have at least 75 yards rushing. PJ Hill is the only hope for Wisconsin and I don't see him being able to run well.

Ohio State 28-14

(13) Auburn vs (19)Vanderbilt

I'm sorry Vandy, you don't have a chance and your magic ride is over. I have obviously bashed Auburn all year and their lack of offense, but I think they will have enough offense this game. Auburn's defense will be able to slow Vanderbilt's amazing rushing attack and that will be all they need to do. If Auburn QB Chris Todd can have any what of a good game Auburn should take this easily.

Auburn 35- 28

Other games to keep a close eye on:
(7) Texas Tech vs Kansas State

I smell upset. Josh Freeman will push his team and his game to another level and make a serious push for the Heisman.

K-State 45-42

6 Fresno State, 1 Georgia

In the battle of the Bulldogs the ultimate Cinderella team Fresno State was able to pull off an unbelievable victory and the college championship. Steve Detwiler was the real reason that Fresno was able to pull off the win, with a record setting 2 homeruns and 6 Rbis. Also, Fresno pitcher Justin Wilson who was supposed to get smoked pitched an unbelievable game in 8 innings, 1 ER and 9ks.

Congrats Fresno, you might be the ultimate Cinderella team ever. Well second to US beating the Soviets, but still pretty remarkable.
