Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell Funny Then Racist

I have to say that I am surprised this story hasn't got more attention from the media. ESPN is playing it that he just called Americans wussies for postponing the Eagles game, but I feel like there is way more to his comment...

"My biggest beef is that this is part of what's happened in this country," Rendell said. "I think we've become wussies."

"We've become a nation of wusses. The Chinese are kicking our butt in everything," Rendell added. "If this was in China do you think the Chinese would have called off the game? People would have been marching down to the stadium, they would have walked and they would have been doing calculus on the way down (ESPN)."

Hold on a second, did he just make an Asian math joke? And no one really caught that? Interesting, maybe it is OK to make Asian jokes, but I bet if he said Africans would be dunking basketballs on the way to the stadium, or Jews would be doing accounting there would've been a huge up roar. I am just really surprised in a time when every quote is analyzed so much, that no one is bitching about this. Granted I find it hilarious, but you would think a politician would have to be a little more politically correct.

Winona Ryder Is Dumb

So, Winona Ryder has come out and ripped Mel Gibson for being "anti-Semitic and homophobic", which at this point is like pointing out that Lindsay Lohan might have a drug problem.

"Fifteen years ago, I was at one of those big Hollywood parties, and he was really drunk," Ryder told the January issue of GQ. "I was with my friend, who's gay. [Gibson] made a really horrible gay joke. And somehow it came up that I was Jewish. He said something about 'oven dodgers,' but I didn't get it. I'd never heard that before. It was just this weird, weird moment (FoxNews)."

First off, Jesus Christ Mel, you are the worst.

But let me get this straight. Mel Gibson makes a gay joke, then finds out your Jewish and makes another joke about you being a "oven dodger", and you (Winona) couldn't connect the dots? Then again, this is the same woman who decided to start shoftlifting a couple years back for no reason, so maybe she isn't the sharpest tool in the shed (nice rack though).

Anyways, Mel Gibson is the worst person ever, and why anyone even bothers talking/listening to him is beyond me.

Maybe this is a poor time to bring this up, but I still think Mel Gibson and Tom Cruise should do a movie together. Say what you want about those two, but their movies are usually pretty good.

ESPN's Peter Keating Talks Out Of His Ass

ESPN's Peter Keating wrote an article entitled "Black QBs are underrated and underpaid". The opening line of the article is "Is the NFL's quarterback rating system racist?". He goes on to say that is a trick question, but does not back off his idea that the QB rating system is racist, and the league doesn't want black QB's leading their team. Here is part of the article...

"Since 2005, just five starting signal-callers have had seasons of 100 or more snaps in which they ran the ball on more than 15 percent of their plays: Vince Young (four times), Michael Vick (three), David Garrard (two), Jason Campbell and Tarvaris Jackson. All are African-American. Of the top 10 seasons in yards per carry by starting QBs over that span, seven are by black QBs, topped by Vick's amazing 8.4 YPC in 2006. To be clear, these numbers don't mean that all black QBs rush for more yards than all white QBs or that black players have more speed than white players. But they do indicate that running tends to be a far more important part of overall play for QBs who are African-American than for those who aren't.

Why? Nobody knows for sure, but I have a theory. Suppose that, whether because of old stereotypes, old habits or some unarticulated mix of the two, it's hard for many coaches and recruiters to envision a black quarterback leading their team (ESPN - click for full article, so you might need ESPN Insider)."

Ugh, I delayed for awhile writing about this, because I usually get crushed if I even touch race, but I just couldn't leave this one alone. This statement is one of the most ludicrous things I have ever read.

Rating system being racist? Just silly. It's a passer rating, the point of the stat is to know how well the guy passes the ball. You know how you know how a player runs? It's called rushing yards, and yards per carry. Does anyone look at Vick's stats and only look at his passing stats? If you do you're a fool, and know nothing about him (or football), so shame on you.

Black QB's being underpaid? David Garrard made more then Tom Brady last year. Let me repeat that David Garrard got paid more then Tom Brady last year. Vick is only in his 2nd year out of jail, and is just getting a chance to start. He was paid very well before his arrest, and will be again if he stays out of trouble, plays like he did early this year, and stay healthy. McNabb, Russell, McNair, along with the guys already mentioned have been paid just like everyone else.

There very well could be racism in the NFL. You could argue that there isn't enough black coaches, when comparing how many black players there have been. You could argue about their being little or no black owners, and I think you could have a great case, but PLEASE don't tell me that the league is racist against black QB's and that the stat lines are racist, because I am damn sure that Vick (prearrest) made some serious cash once again, along with JaMarcus Russell, McNabb, McNair, and so on. It's just a dumb statement and this article just doesn't make any sense.

LeBron: Race Factored In Backlash

"According to the Akron Beacon-Journal, former Cavalier LeBron James and his good friend and business partner, Maverick Carter, were interviewed for a show on CNN and talked about "The Decision." James took a lot of heat for the way he made the announcement and both say race played a factor in the backlash.

"I think so at times," James said. "It's always, you know, a race factor."

"It definitely played a role in some of the stuff coming out of the media, things that were written. For sure," said Carter (ESPN)."

Yea, it had to be race. It couldn't have been that everyone just saw you as an arrogant jerk who only cares about himself, right? Fuck you Lebron, I can't wait for you to choke again.

Mayweather In Trouble For Racist Comments

ESPN is reporting that the National Federation of Filipino American Associations are lashing out against Floyd Mayweather, Jr. after he released a racially insensitive video about Manny Pacquiao, who hails from the country.

“Once I stomp the midget, I’ll make that mother [expletive] make me a sushi roll and cook me some rice,” Mayweather said in the video.

Pacquiao responded by calling the video “an uneducated message,” but the NaFFAA is willing to go farther than that.

“We are outraged by Mayweather’s racially offensive remarks,” the NaFFAA said in a statement. “This disgusting diatribe against Pacquiao is a racial slur against all Filipinos and Filipino Americans and an embarrassment not only to the boxing community, but to all Americans. Talking trash may be common between boxing rivals, but Mayweather’s racially laced profanities brazenly crossed the line of decency and respectability. Pacquiao, on the other hand, has taken the high road and acted like the gentleman that he is (WEEI).”

I don't really have a problem with what Mayweather said, because at the end of the day these guys are going to end up in a ring together, and Pacquiao will get his chance to shut Mayweather up. But there are a couple things I do have a problem with.

First off, if this was turned around and Pacquiao went off on a racial slur rampage against Mayweather this country, and Mayweather would've thrown a fit. But yet no one really cares about this. But whatever, that's just the way things are.

What REALLY pisses me off is that fact that Mayweather is talking shit when once again he was the one who stopped this fight from happening. When they were first promoting this fight I really wanted Mayweather to win. I still think he will win, but I'm rooting for Pacquiao. Mayweather is a douche, he won't fight Pacquiao because he is worried about losing his undefeated stature, and decided it was better to diddle himself for a year.

Anyways, boxing is dead to me until these two fight.

Mel Gibson Is One Crazy S.O.B.

Mel Gibson is at it again. He apparently is still a racist, but he could be brought up on charges after this latest tirade...

According to TMZ, not only did Gibson call Grigorieva a “c**t” and “whore” in a tape that she apparently recorded without his knowledge, but he also dropped the N-bomb with the comment, "You look like a f**king pig in heat and if you get raped by a pack of ni**ers it will be your fault."

Furthermore, RadarOnline claims to have heard the tapes (which are currently under seal amid the custody proceedings in the L.A Superior Court) and reported that Gibson left a malevolent message on the mother of his child’s voice mail, referring to her as “a psycho c***t” – all while their baby can be heard screaming in the background. In another verbal attack, Gibson allegedly threatened to “come and burn the f***ing house down (FoxNews).”

Wow. Man, he really is crazy. All the racist stuff will hurt his career, but he would've been fine otherwise, but then he went and said he was going to “come and burn the fucking house down", that is a big no-no.

“If it is true that Mel threatened to burn her house down, that could be considered a criminal terrorist threat. A terrorist threat can be anything designed to induce harm or kill another individual, it doesn’t have to come from Al-Qaeda to be classified as terrorism,” explained Santa Monica-based Criminal Defense Attorney, Steve Cron. “There is a real possibility that the police department or a prosecuting agency could take action.”

Hahahaha, so not only is Gibson a bigot, racist, womanizer, but now he is also a terrorist. How far can one guy fall? I don't know, but this is entertaining as hell. At least he knows good story structure in his movies though, too bad he'll probably never work again (and deservedly so).

God's Way of Telling Orlando Hudson and Torri Hunter to Get the Stepping

Sure, the pitchers name was Doug Fister and he struck out just 3 batters. Sure it just so happened the fan responsible for the K cards was perched right next to the Jackie Robinson 42 sign. But at which point do we cross the line in to the just a little too coincidental territory?

h/t Deadspin.

First Torii Hunter now Orlando Hudson

“You see guys like Jermaine Dye(notes) without a job,” Minnesota Twins second baseman Orlando Hudson(notes) said Monday. “Guy with [27 home runs and 81 RBIs] and can’t get a job. Pretty much sums it up right there, no? You’ve got some guys who miss a year who can come back and get $5, $6 million, and a guy like Jermaine Dye can’t get a job. A guy like Gary Sheffield(notes), a first-ballot Hall of Famer, can’t get a job. …

“We both know what it is. You’ll get it right. You’ll figure it out. I’m not gonna say it because then I’ll be in [trouble].” Says Hudson

Well motherfucker, Jermaine Dye just turned down a deal from the Nationals to play, so he could have had a job if he wanted, however, a couple million dollar deal isn't enough. Also Jermaine Dye doesn't have a lot to offer other than he can hit homeruns. He can't field, he can't run, and can't hit for average, so stop looking at fantasy stats and see what baseball GMs see. Also, Gary Sheffield is old is dirt and can't do anything, and on top of it is a prick.

I hate this racism in baseball because it's not racism, black people just want to play basketball and football. (I don't know if that's factual, I just assume, fuck you) Plus maybe us whites and spanish people are just better than blacks at the sport and they can't handle it... yea I'm going with that one. Stop being jealous of us Torii Hunter and Orlando Hudson and realize we own a sport. Grow up and have fun swimming in your millions of dollars as teachers are having trouble paying rent.

Torii Hunter Is A Racist Prick

Torii Hunter was probably one of my top 5 favorite baseball players in the MLB. He is consistent every year, is incredible on defense, and had been a staple on my fantasy team for years. Then he had to go and do this...

"People see dark faces out there, and the perception is that they're African-American," Hunter said. "They're not us. They're impostors. Even people I know come up and say: 'Hey, what color is Vladimir Guerrero? Is he a black player?' I say, 'Come on, he's Dominican. He's not black.' ...

"As African-American players, we have a theory that baseball can go get an imitator and pass them off as us. It's like they had to get some kind of dark faces, so they go to the Dominican or Venezuela because you can get them cheaper. It's like, 'Why should I get this kid from the South Side of Chicago and have Scott Boras represent him and pay him $5 million when you can get a Dominican guy for a bag of chips?' ... I'm telling you, it's sad," he said.

Ummmm what? Listen Hunter black people don't play baseball because it just isn't that popular in their culture. Basketball and football are the two major sports right now. It is no ones fault, it's just the way it is. MLB executives are not sitting in some dark room thinking of ways to keep black kids from playing baseball (though that sounds like a great movie).

Nothing Hunter said made any fucking sense. "Why should I get this kid from the South Side of Chicago and have Scott Boras represent him and pay him $5 million when you can get a Dominican guy for a bag of chips?' Ummm Ozzie Guillen I'll let you take this one...

I was laughing because when he said, `They go there and sign for potato chips,' I said, `Well, we've got Chapman. They gave him $12 million. [Cincinnati actually agreed to a $30.25 million, six-year contract with pitcher Aroldis Chapman.] We've got [prospect Dayan] Viciedo. They gave him $10 million. I remember in my time, one scout goes [to Venezuela and] 30 players show up. Now, 30 scouts go there and one player shows up. In our country, we play baseball. That's no choice. Here you can play basketball, you can be another athlete, you can do so many things when you have the opportunity. And that's why there's not many [African-American] players out there."

When you make Ozzie Guillen sounds like a calm and rational person you know you fucked up. It is really sad that Hunter feels this way, because he is 100% wrong. Of all the major sports I think the MLB has done the best job of integrating different cultures. Over the past 10-15 years we have seen a boom of international talent from place like the Dominican Republic, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Venezuela, Netherlands, ect. The big bad MLB is not doing this to erase the black culture they are just scouring the world looking for talent, and at the end of the day there are just less black people playing baseball.

Whites Only Professional Basketball League

This was on Deadspin the other day, but how could I not talk about this. Apparently there is a guy in Augusta attempting to start a white only professional basketball league. He says, "There's nothing hatred about what we're doing," he said. "I don't hate anyone of color. But people of white, American-born citizens are in the minority now. Here's a league for white players to play fundamental basketball, which they like. Would you want to go to the game and worry about a player flipping you off or attacking you in the stands or grabbing their crotch?" he said. "That's the culture today, and in a free country we should have the right to move ourselves in a better direction."

I can think of nothing more boring then just fundamental basketball. It is really amazing how racist some parts of the country still are. This is no better then having white and black restaurants, it is just a horrible idea. Listen, I get what the guy is saying. There are very few white people in the NBA, but tough shit...get better then.

What made me laugh (other then just the overall idea of this), is the fact Boston is called the most racist city in America. Well I can tell you this would never happen in our city.

Way to be South, you just can't get over this whole racism thing.

Money May Mouths Off, Tiger and LeBron Nod in Agreement

It might take a few more years before we reach that racial equality Teddy Kennedy spent so much time fighting for. At least according to Floyd Mayweather Jr. Ahead of Saturday's fight against Juan Manuel Marquez, Mayweather had this to say about his legacy and fame:

If you're rich, you're a rich nigga," he said. "If you're poor, you're a poor nigga. If you're smart, you're a smart nigga. At the end of the day, they still look at me as a nigga." [Ed Note: At least they won't look at you as a nigger though right Floyd?]

This country needs to be more positive," he said. "We're already at war. We're in a recession, we're at war and we continue to be negative. The fans in the UK showed me more love than in my own country. That's crazy ... Sometimes I'll sit back, I'll be in my theater sometimes, and I'll think: 'Imagine if I was the same fighter that I am, and I was the same person that I am, and I was from another country. Can you just imagine how big I'd be?'

"But I wouldn't change my life for nothing in the world. There's nothing like being young, black and rich. But there are certain things you think about. If Floyd Mayweather was white, I'd be the biggest athlete in America. The biggest, the biggest. I know that for a fact."
This was allegedly in response to the way the media has handled his role in a recent Las Vegas shooting and his IRS problems. Now I'm with him up to this point. But his comments later on in the press conference just cross the line. Larry Merchant don't know nothing about what?

Larry Merchant don't know nothing about boxing," Mayweather said. "What's that other guy's name [at HBO]? [Emanuel Steward]. He's an Uncle Tom.
If he wants us white people to start respecting him, he better start respecting his elders. Emanuel is an Uncle Tom though.

I Mean What Did You Expect?

Here's the story, as reported by The Sarasota Herald Tribune: On the last Friday in April, an 18-year-old white kid named Daniel Azeff and a friend went riding downtown in a pickup truck, yelling racially disparaging remarks and waving a Confederate battle flag. Azeff's grandfather, Joseph Fischer, told the paper he has cautioned his grandson repeatedly about his fascination with that dirty banner. Azeff, he said, does not really understand what the flag means.

If so, he's hardly alone in his ignorance. A generation of apologists for the wannabe nation symbolized by that flag has done an effective job of convincing the gullible and the willfully ignorant that neither the nation, the flag, nor the Civil War in which both were bloodily repudiated, has anything to do with slavery. It's just ''heritage,'' they say, as though heritage were a synonym for ''good.'' As though Nazis, white South Africans and Rwandans did not have heritage, too.

For the record: In explaining its decision to secede, South Carolina cited ''an increasing hostility on the part of the non-slaveholding States to the institution of slavery.'' Georgia noted its grievances against the North ''with reference to the subject of African slavery.'' Mississippi said, ''Our position is thoroughly identified with the institution of slavery.'' To which Confederate ''vice president'' Alexander Stephens added: ``Our new government is founded upon . . . the great truth that the Negro is not equal to the white man, that slavery, subordination to the superior race, is his natural and moral condition.''

So the notion that the Confederacy and its symbols have nothing to with slavery is tiresome, silly and delusional. In choosing to adopt one of those symbols that night, David Azeff took a history test of sorts -- and failed.

As noted, Michael Mitchell's test was in civics. Police say Mitchell, who is 18, black and a student at Sarasota Military Academy, saw Azeff's flag, took offense and, when the white kid parked and walked down the street, confronted him. Azeff denied being a racist; he was, he said, just exercising his First Amendment rights. Police say the argument escalated, until Mitchell pulled a gun and shot Azeff in the chest.

No shit you are going to get shot sporting a confederate flag yelling racial slurs in the south. Even in the North that wouldn't be tolerated. People like this just set America back and you know what, I'm glad he got shot.
