Troy Smith Finally Gets His Chance

Alex Smith will miss Sunday's game against the Denver Broncos in London because of a separated left shoulder, and instead of going with David Carr the 49ers are going to start Troy Smith.

I don't think Troy Smith is good, but I do think this is the right choice. He will at least inject some life into this offense, and right now that's really all you can ask for. I'm not saying he is going to turn this season around, but we have seen players come in and pull it off (Vince Young anyone?).

Still, this won't be enough to save Mike Singletary's job, and this team will be drafting a QB in the next NFL Draft.

Couple NFL QB's Lose Their Jobs

Well it has been another week of some terrible QB play and finally there is starting to be some changes. Buffalo is going with Ryan Fitzpatrick (smartass Harvard kid) over Edwards, as he was able to lead them to a win. It also seems that the 49ers may be going back to Alex Smith over Hill next week. Both moves I support. I actually think Fitzpatrick is a decent QB. He won't "wow" you, but he knows how to manage a game, and like I said before is a very smart kid.

With the 49ers I don't think there is much of a change, but at least Alex Smith found a way to get Vernon Davis the ball. Honestly, is there any bigger waste of talent then Davis on the 49ers?

Patriots Trade For Alex Smith

"The New England Patriots have obtained tight end Alex Smith from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Patriots gave up an undisclosed pick in next year's NFL draft for the four-year veteran, who was drafted by the Buccaneers in the third round in 2005 (Sportsline)."

Smith is a decent pass catching tight end, who in his career has 129 receptions for 1,252 yards and 11 touchdowns in 58 games. Even though his stats don't jump off the page he is a very good blocker and might be the sign of a change in philosophy in the Patriots offense. Over the past couple of year the Patriots have been almost exclusively a passing team, but with this addition and the addition of Chris Baker the patriots might be getting away from speedy more WR then TE type of guys like Watson and Thomas. It will make camp every interesting, because the Patriots now have 5 TEs on their roster (Chris Baker, Benjamin Watson, David Thomas, Tyson DeVree, Brad Listorti, Alex Smith), you would think they will keep three...

Alex Smith's Season Is Over

Alex Smith is out for the season with a broken bone in his right shoulder. Most likely his career with the 49ers will be over too. Smith has been a bust since day 1, and the 49ers have to be kicking themselves for not taking Aaron Rodgers. I am actually glad this happened, because I never believed in this guy, and now we don't have to hear about how he should be starting since he is a #1 pick. Great pick by the Niners, Smith passed for 4,679 yards with 31 interceptions and 19 touchdowns...Ouch.
