Indians @ Red Sox Preview

The Red Sox lead over the Yankees is down to just 1 game. Last night, the game was tied in the 8th inning until Bard came in and blew it. He has been so good all season that I really don't read too much into it. Eventually everyone get it.

Tonight we will see David Huff vs. Josh Beckett. Huff lost two starts against Boston last year, but gave up just 3 earned runs in 11 1/3 innings. Since being called back up from the minors Huff has been actually pitching pretty well going 1-1 with a 0.71 ERA over 12 2/3 innings with nine Ks. Still with Jiminez being aquired this is probably Huff's last night.

Beckett wasn't as sharp in his last outing giving up 4 runs in 7 innings to the Royals. It wasn't a bad start,he just had one bad inning. I think he will come out strong tonight, even though he has struggled against the Indians in his career (4-5 5.04 ERA). Other then that last start Beckett has been amazing at home with a 1.88 ERA. Look for Boston to win big tonight.

Red Sox win 7-2
Player of the Game: Pedroia/Beckett
Game starts at 7:10pm

Why Not?

Why not kind of wish that car hit him?

The Dark Knight Rises Going To Suck?

Probably the most anticipated movie in recent memory is The Dark Knight Rises. I have to admit I was a big fan of the last movie, and yes we all know DP hated it. I was pretty pumped about this follow up, but was pretty sure there is no way it could live up to the hype. After seeing these photos I am not even sure if the movie is going to be any good.

I know there is a lot of cool camera things they can do, but shouldn't "Bane" be a lot bigger then that? I mean he is the guy who broke Batman in half, and this dude already looks like he is going to get his ass kicked. Maybe I am being too harsh, but if it was up to me I would've had a lot bigger person playing him. Maybe someone from the WWE or something. It's not like Bane really needs to talk, he should just be smashing things. On top of that Bane doesn't even look that cool.

Well at least the batmobile still looks badass.

Tiki Barber's Comeback Not Going So Well

In all the craziness of the past couple of days of NFL signings we all kind of forgot about Tiki Barber. He made headlines earlier this offseason when he announced he would make a comeback. Yet, no one has picked him up. Our friends over at FitzandVig.com pointed out that Tiki is most likely going to have to try to play in the UFL next season and show that he still has something in the tank. I think this whole comeback thing was a stupid idea and was doomed to fail from the beginning, so it's really not all that shocking. There are just too many young players that a team could bring in that have a better chance of being productive and will have about 1/2 the ego.

There is one story out there from opposingviews.com that claims Tiki is about to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but I just can't see that being true.

Fitzgerald Begging Arizona To Sign Braylon Edwards

"Adam Schein of Fox Sports and Sirius NFL Radio reports that Larry Fitzgerald and Kerry Rhodes have gone to management of the Cardinals to lobby for the team to sign Edwards (ESPN)."

In a lot of ways it makes sense. The Cardinals have brought in Kolb and they might as well give him as many options as possible. That being said, I like Early Doucet and would like to see what he can do as a #2 WR. Edwards is good and they should grab him if the money is right, but I have a feeling he is going to want to get paid like he is a #1 WR and he just drops too many balls for him to get that kind of money.

Then again, the Cardinals are trying to lock Fitzgerald up long term and might want to do anything just to make him happy.

NFL Has Been Back For A Week And I'm Already Sick Of Rex Ryan

First off his new tattoo is fucking gay. Dude, you're 48 years old why are you getting tribal tattoos on your leg. I guess it makes sense since most Jets fans are a bunch of Jersey shitdicks anyways, so I am sure he just wants to fit in.

Then he comes out and does his normal blah, blah, blah speech about how they are going to win it all, and so on. This time he decided to challenge the rest of the league to beat the Patriots. Good for him I guess, I mean he knocked the Patriots out last year, so he has the right to talk shit. But this wasn't even shit talking I thought it was just lame...

"Again, I think we have to find somebody out there to beat New England besides us, and I think that would help. Anybody out there that wants to sign up for it? Are you good enough as a team to beat the New England Patriots? Forget about us, are you good enough to go out and beat the New England Patriots? I’m challenging the league."

Actually it's not even the quote that pisses me off. It's the fact that this has been a main headline in Boston papers and WEEI. Really guys? Is there nothing better to write about?

Fuck Rex Ryan, but also fuck the media's obsession with everything that comes out of his stupid fat mouth. It's all the same "we're gonna win it all", me this, me that. The only time I want to hear about another Rex Ryan story is when we find out that he got arrested having a bunch of kids locked in his basement and his wife does weird videos with them, because judging from his past and this tattoo, the story seems inevitable.

"Pat and John on..." What Gets a song Played?

I was in a club the other day, not drunk enough to start dancing I paid close attention to the music videos that were playing and the music in general. I started noticing patterns in the songs, there were some that told people what to do, some that talked about the night and some that singled out people. Just about all of the songs started fitting into different categories in my head, these categories didn't make the songs hits, but they definitely helped get them played. Which lead me to think, what do you put in a song if you want it to get some airtime? Sounds like a job for Pat and John. Jobs not for Pat and John include: Indoor plumbing, car repair, and parenting (at least not that we know of).

City

Creating a song about a city is like being a beat writer for the local little league. Someone from the neighboring town wont care about it, but the people in your geography will be bumping your work in their scrapbook/iTunes for years to come.

You cant leave Fenway after a sox game without hearing “awwwwww Boston you’re my home” or Yankee stadium without “New York, Newwwww yorkkkkkkkk”, although its not fool proof in that, I’m sure that in Iraq they don’t play Bombs over Bagdad at the end of every donkey fight.

Who has taken a trip to Miami after 1998 without hearing “welcome to Miami bienvenido a Miami” playing through their head? And even after we know that the Mommas and the Poppas singer John Phillips was boning his daughter we’re still “California Dreaming” when we think of the Golden State. In fact California alone has a litany of songs. The Flaming Lips made California maybe the most addicting chorus of all time using just the state’s name. It also was the theme song unfortunately to the OC.

Thanks to 2pac I know “California knows how to party.” Snoop Dogg taught me that LBC is the cool way to say Long Beach, and just about any west coast rapper has informed me through the art of rhyme that south central LA and Compton are probably places I don’t want to be dippin’ through any time soon.

Rappers love talking about their hometown. Who needs to look up a rapper on google to see where they’re from? You just need to listen to 1 out of 5 songs. Jay Z, we know he’s reppin BK, as did Biggie. Dr. Dre hails from Compton but sticks out for other hoods. Hell even Nelly was proud to be from St. Louis.

Bottom line, Just about every place has a song. And if it didn’t have a song, Johnny Cash took care of that.

Check out the other ways to get a song some airplay HERE.

And visit Pat and John On every Monday for a new blog!

A Women's Sport Worthwhile

Lingerie Basketball, I would totally support this over the WNBA. Actually I would be pumped if this actually replaced the WNBA, except replaced most WNBA players with hot women.

If I were to create a lingerie basketball league this would be my starting line up:

PG: Nikki "Hoopz" Alexander
SG: Beyonce Knowles
SF: Jennifer Love Hewitt
PF: Kate Upton
C: Candace Parker

My rational behind this roster is to involve looks and a winning mentality. Hoopz is Shaq's girlfriend and played some ball back n the day and Candace Parker would obviously be there too because she may be the best looking WNBA player and if you have a solid PG/C combo, you are on your way. Beyonce I have in there because she seems very athletic and would trust her to get all Sasha Fierce out there. I have Jennifer Love Hewitt in there because I need the veteran presence and she's still got it. Every guy my age has always wanted to see her in lingerie so this is the last opportunity to see it, also with her weight fluctuation she could gobble up some rebounds. Kate Upton makes sense because Kate's tall and you know it's Kate Upton involving jumping.

DP's Thoughts On Randy Moss

I'm not going to sit here and fondle Randy Moss's sack like BMack did yesterday. Randy Moss retiring is just another case of him being in asshole and a diva. He may have all of the accolades and stats, but the guy is a straight asshole. He basically retired because the 2 teams he wanted to go to the Jets and Patriots took care of their wide receiver issues.

Let's be honest here Randy, you're not retired and you're doing this to be a baby. Randy would come out of retirement today if the Washington Redskins offered him a 2 year, 10 million dollar deal.

People shouldn't look at his legacy as a Hall of Famer, they should look at his career as a giant let down and waste of talent. He has great numbers but imagine all his numbers if he was motivated and didn't quit on every team he played for. He would still be on the Patriots this year if he just kept his mouth shut and played. He would probably have a 3 year deal if he didn't quit on the 3 teams he played for last year, and the fact he was expecting a 3 year deal is head scratching too.

I can't stand you Randy and you are no better than all the other media whore, attention grabbing players.

9 Indians, 6 Sox

Even though Daniel Bard gave up the dagger runs, I'm still going to blame the loss on John Lackey. Through the 1st three innings he pitched real well. Lackey gave up a run in the 4th to make it 3-2, and was fine until the 6th. Lackey got hit for 3 more runs in the 6th, including back to back homers by Cabrera and Hafner. Lackey ended up with 6 2/3 innings, giving up 8 hits, 5 runs, and struck out 5.

Speaking of Asdrubal Cabrera, he absolutely killed the Sox and went 3-5 with 2 homeruns.

Crawford and Salty chipped in with solo shots each. And everyone except Ortiz had a hit. We tried, just bad luck yesterday.

Indians @ Red Sox Preview

The Red Sox and Indians both made trades to improve their rotation, but that isn't something we will see tonight. Tonight we get Lackey vs. Josh Tomlin... very thrilling.

Tomlin has been the surprise of the Indians season going 11-4 with a 4.01 ERA, and is 4-1 with a 3.81 ERA over his last eight starts. Tomlin isn't an overpowering pitcher, but I guess on some level you have to give him respect with how well he has pitched this year.

The Indians as a team though have been struggling. They are just 2-8 over their last 10 games and have fallen 2 1/2 games behind the Tigers for first place in the AL Central. Even with their trades you have to wonder if this overachieving team may have finally leveled out.

Red Sox lead the majors with 586 total runs and have scored 15 over their last two games. As DP and I have stated several times this is the best offense we have ever seen. It is really hard for me to pick again them on any night, even with they have that shit head Lackey on the hill.

Lackey won his last four starts with a 2.52 ERA, so hopefully he has turned the corner. I still think he is letting up way too many hits and eventually that will come back to haunt him once again. Still, think the Red Sox win tonight though...

Red Sox win 8-6
Player of the Game: Ellsbury
Game starts at 7:10pm

Why Not?

Why not have the worst birthday ever?

Breaking News: Randy Moss Retires

Randy Moss has decided to retire, and I couldn't be happier. I didn't want to see him go to the Jets, and to be honest I just didn't want to see him on another team other then the Patriots. I know he left on terrible terms, but that year when him and Brady broke seemingly broke every record was incredible and I will always remember it.

We will always look at Moss and think what might have been if his head was screwed on right, but even with his stupid ways he is a Hall of Famer and one of the best WRs I have ever seen.

Good luck to you Randy.

Ryan Westmoreland Update

"The Providence Journal reports that Red Sox OF prospect Ryan Westmoreland could begin facing live pitching soon. “They know I’m ready, and I know I’m ready,” he said. “I’m physically and mentally ready — whether I hit the ball or not — to get in the batter’s box again. To see a pitcher throw a ball at me from 60 feet away is going to be pretty special.” As soon as the Red Sox staff gives him the go-ahead, based on his health and the way he’s handling batting practice, he’ll hit real pitches from a real pitcher for the first time since his surgery (CBS Sports)."

It will be shocking if Westmoreland every plays in a minor league game, let alone an MLB game, but these steps are impressive. He has basically had to learn how to walk, talk, and so on since the surgery. Now he is swinging a bat well enough that he will be able to go against live pitching. I really hope somehow this kid does pull off a miracle and makes it all the way back. What an incredible story it would be. You do have to remember he was the Sox #1 prospect not too long again, and although it is unlikely he will ever make it, it's great to hear these kinds of updates.

Red Sox Need To Fire Their Medical Staff

I have had just about enough of this Red Sox medical staff. With word coming out today that Buchholz will most likely miss the rest of the season with a stress fracture in his back, one has to wonder why the Red Sox staff didn't catch this almost 2 months ago.

When Wright had this same kind of injury it took two months for him to recover, that means if the Red Sox caught this in the beginning Buchholz would've easily been ready for the playoffs. I wish I could say this is the first Red Sox mistake, but they have been God awful these past few years.

They messed up Ellsbury last year. They have had problems with Pedroia. Only God knows what the hell goes on with Lowrie, but he has complained about them, and even Beckett had back problems last year that they never seemed to be able to get their hands around.

I am sick of this medical staff and I hope they fire all of them. They have had a ton of chances and it's time to get some much better doctors or whatever in here.

Shocking News: Brandon Marshall Has Mental Problems

Brandon Marshall says he was diagnosed earlier this year with borderline personality disorder, which has been known to stem from things such as unstable personal relationships, a negative self-image and a fear of failure. He made the decision to go public with the issue to raise awareness, and says he plans to eventually lobby Congress for funding to assist research efforts.

Yea, no shit Marshall. We kind of picked up on that from your time in Denver. Like remember that time you went out to a club with your buddies Javon Walker and Darrent Williams? Then for some reason Williams got shot.

Remember that time you beat up your girlfriend resulting in the police being called on 11 different occasions? Remember that time you got a DUI?

How about later when you beat up your fiancee? Or how about that time when your girl finally had enough and stabbed you.

But yea, I guess this can all be explained because you have a "borderline" personality disorder. How about you just admit you're a douchebag that puts himself in terrible situations, and that you're a terrible person. Go to hell Marshall I refuse to feel bad for you.

Why Not?

I know this is old, but why not watch Richard Simmons be props in Whose Line is it Anyways:

Around The NFL

Nnamdi Awesome-ugha is headed to Philly
Love it, love it, love it. It would have been cool to see him go to the Jets and have Revis and him, but we will have to take Samuel and him. He signed a deal worth $60 million over five years which isn't bad figuring he's the best cornerback in the league. Now the Eagles have a stupid secondary with Asante Samuel, Nnamdi and recently acquired Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. Those are 3 Pro Bowl cornerbacks ladies and gentlemen.

Antonio Cromartie back to the Jets
Antonio Cromartie will sign a 4 year, 32 million dollar deal with the Jets. Not a bad deal figuring he's still pretty damned good and can play in return situations too.

Plaxico Burress to Jets
It was said to be between the Steelers and Giants, but Plax decided to spurn his former teams and sign with the convict laden New York Jets for 3 million. This is an alternative to Braylon Edwards, who is surely going to be on another team next year. I don't like Plax, but it will be interesting to see if he can still be an effective receiver in the league.

Cedric Benson is back with the Bengals
He's about the only one who is back. 3 million with 2 million incentives, a 1 year deal.

MLB Trades That Happened Over The Weekend

Texas Rangers add Mike Adams and Koji Uehara.
The Rangers have a lot of problems when it comes to their bullpen, so adding to of the best set up men certainly helps. Their combined stats are: 95 innings, 51 hits, 111 strikeouts, 17 walks. Also they control them for next year too.

Hunter Pence to Philadelphia Phillies
How do the Phllies constantly make awesome moves. They gave up some pretty good prospects but Pence fills a huge void in a what is a surprisingly bad Phillies line up. Pence will most likely take Raul Ibanez's spot out there, Ibanez is terrible in the field and is batting around .260. I like the deal.

Doug Fister and David Pauley to Detroit Tigers
Another move I'm in favor for, with Brad Penny being awful and the Tigers constantly having to call up some prospect to get rocked every 5th day, this should put a stop to the bleeding. Fister is 3-12, but remember he's on Seattle who is allergic to runs, he also has a 3.33 era and about 90 Ks. David Pauley should fit some of the bullpen void as well.

Ubaldo Jimenez to Cleveland Indians
I like this move for the Indians, a lot of people are saying that they gave up too much by involving top prospect Drew Pomeranz and Alex White, however, Ubaldo is 27, is coming off a 19 win season and flirts with 200 Ks a year. He could be an Ace for Cleveland who need a top of the line rotation guy. They have him for the next 3 years at a relatively cheap price. Like the aggressiveness by Cleveland.

Michael Bourn to Atlanta Braves
Good fit for the Braves who need an OF and need speed. They got both and didn't give up that much.

5 Red Sox, 3 White Sox

Hopefully with Bedard coming in this will be one of the last times we see Andrew Miller on the bump with Wake keeping his rotation spot.

It's not that Wake is even a better option than Miller, it's just Wake has the potential to go over 5.2 innings. Last night Miller went 5.2 innings, struck out 8 and gave up 10 hits.

Aceves pitched one inning, giving up a walk, to register the win with now a record of 1000-1. Daniel Bard went an 1.1, and Jonathan Papelbon closed her out for his 24th save of the year.

The offense came threw again in the 6th havng us get the 4-3 lead off of reliever Jesse Crain. Adrian, Dustin Pedroia, Jacoby Ellsbury, and Marco Scutaro all had multi hit games.

Tonight the Sox are going to welcome Ubaldo Jiminez in his debut.

Let's Get Bedarded in Here

How long before we start seeing "Can't Spell Erik Without a 'K'" T-shirts?

After the Rich Harden deal fell apart due to concerns over his health, the Sox went after another Canadian born pitcher. As part of a three team deal, they acquired Erik Bedard. They dealt C Tim Federowicz, RHP Juan Rodriguez and RHP Stephen Fife to the Dodgers in exchange for minor leaguers OF Trayvon Robinson and OF Chih-Hsien Chiang. The Sox then sent Robinson and Chiang to Seattle for Bedard. Righty Josh Fields was packaged along with Bedard.

Fields was drafted by Seattle with the 20th overall pick of the 2008 draft. He's a 25 year old reliever just promoted from AA to AAA Tacoma.

Bedard is obviously the main event of the deal. The Sox need pitching to fill out their rotation. Buchholz was just placed on the 60 Day DL and his recovery has hit some roadblocks.

Bedard's been plagued by injury problems the past few years. He hasn't tossed a full season of work since 2007. He hasn't even thrown 100+ innings since 2007. He missed the entire 2010 season. And he was sidelines for a month with a sprained left knee. He made his return to Seattle's rotation Friday night, struggling through 1.1 innings and allowing 5 runs.

However, when healthy, he is a legitimate frontline starter. On the season, he has a 4-7 record (remember, this is Seattle, who have saddled Felix Hernandez with a 9-9 record) and a 3.45 ERA. But those numbers don't tell the whole story. He struggled in April, starting the season 0-4 with a 7.71 ERA. Since April 27th, he's gone 4-3 with a 2.34 ERA. That ERA includes his 1.1 inning, 5 run debacle on Friday.

Nine of his last 11 starts have been Quality Starts.

This is a good move. Bedard may end of on the DL by early September, but if he doesn't... Well, he's not just an upgrade over Andrew Miller. He solidifies the top of the Red Sox rotation.

His first start is slated to be Friday night against the Yankees. Welcome to Boston, Mr. Bedard.

Breaking News: Clay Buchholz Out With Stress Fracture In Back

Red Sox pitcher Clay Buchholz has a stress fracture in his lower back and will most likely miss the rest of the season, according to a report in Comcast Sports New England.

I knew it, so this also spotlights the Bedard trade. So this means come playoff time we are going to need to go Beckett, Lester, then Bedard/ Lackey... I guess I'm comfortable enough with that. Bedard is pretty good and Lackey could (probably not) turn it around.

There is always a chance that the Sox make an August waiver move too, but I don't see that really happening, especially if our offense keeps carrying us the way it has.
