Celtics Vs Bulls Preview

I know the Bulls are really going to want this game figuring what happened in last years playoffs, but much like the Hawks from the previous year, don't call this a rivalry. A lot has happened since game 7 of the playoffs last year. The Celtics had some huge additions in Rasheed Wallace and Quisy, while the Bulls saw Ben Gordon walk out the door to Detroit. Obviously the key match up will be Rajon Rondo vs Derrick Rose and Kirk Hienrich. There is a little bad blood between those players and expect a little talking and some very physical play. The starting lineups are:
PG D. Rose 13.0 R. Rondo 9.0
SG J. Salmons 10.0 R. Allen 17.0
SF L. Deng 17.0 P. Pierce 19.0
PF T. Thomas 13.0 K. Garnett 11.5
C J. Noah 10.0 K. Perkins 9.0

Looking at that we see the weaknesses. KG will and should be able to beat the athletic Tyrus Thomas with his physical play. The Salmons/ Ray Allen match up scares me a little bit because of what happened in last years playoffs and Salmons scoring at will. Regardless the Celtics will win this game because Ben Gordon is not going to be on the court and they will not be able to make up for his scoring.

Julien Not Happy With Chara's Play

"According to Claude Julien, Zdeno Chara has been good. But not great, which is what the Bruins have come to expect of their captain. "Good," said Julien. "But can be better. He knows that. He's been good. There are some games where we've seen him be dominant like we have in the past. But so far, he hasn't been dominant night in and night out like he has been. He's frustrated a little bit too."

In 11 games, Chara has zero goals and six assists while averaging 24:34 of ice time per match. Chara's offensive numbers are down, but his shutdown game has been off as well. Last night, Zach Parise won a puck battle against Chara behind the Boston net, then gained position on the captain in front. "His whole game, at times, has been up and down a little bit," Julien said. "He's never been terrible. But there are some nights where I'd say he's been OK. When you talk about Z, for our team to have success, we'd like to see him the way he was last year -- being a stellar defenseman, being stingy, and being a defenseman that every team hated playing against (Boston.com)."

We saw Julien do this to Savard earlier in the year. His general plan is to attack the stars in hope of motivating the team. The whole team has been anything but consistent (even before the injuries). I think the Bruins will be back to playing like they were last year once they get healthier.

4 Teens Ticketed For Rapping Order at McDonalds

"A rap by four teenagers at a McDonald's has gotten them a bad rap in one Utah city. The teens were cited by American Fork police earlier this week for disorderly conduct after they rapped their order at a McDonald's drive-through. The teens said they were imitating a popular video on YouTube. They rapped their order, which begins with, "I need a double cheeseburger and hold the lettuce ..." once quickly before repeating it more slowly. Spenser Dauwalder said employees at the restaurant told him and his friends they were holding up the line and needed to order or leave.

The 18-year-old said nobody was in line. He and his three 17-year-old friends left without buying anything. American Fork Police Sgt. Gregg Ludlow says a manager wrote down the car's license plate number and called police. The teens were later cited by officers at a high school parking lot outside a volleyball match.

"We thought, you know, just teenagers out having fun," Dauwalder told KSL Newsradio. "We didn't think it would escalate to that."

Disorderly conduct citations are issued when someone does something to cause annoyance or alarm, Ludlow said. The citation is an infraction similar to a speeding ticket, Ludlow said.

"It was not just that they were rapping, they continued to hold things up," Ludlow said (FoxNews)."

my first reaction was that this is silly and the cop took this too far. Now I am thinking that I am glad they did this. If I was there I would have been pissed that these guys were holding up the line trying (and failing) to be funny. Fuck them I hope it was a big ticket.

Andre Johnson To Play This Week

"The Texans team site reports WR Andre Johnson was able to return to practice on Thursday a day after missing practice with a lung contusion suffered against the 49ers in Week 7. "(I'm) very encouraged," head coach Gary Kubiak said. "He took probably pretty close to almost all the reps he normally takes and didn't seem to have any problems. We'll see how he feels (Sportsline)."

Sounds like he is good to go. In my eyes this is the best WR in the league. Anyways, it is safe to put him back in your fantasy lineup, and I would recommend starting Matt Schaub since the Texans are going against the Bills this week.

Lakers Bench Ritual

GAY.

Westbrook Still Not Practicing

"Eagles RB Brian Westbrook remained sidelined in practice Friday, giving him a full week without practicing with his teammates in preparation for Week 8 against the Giants. He continues to feel the effects of a concussion suffered early in last week's game at Washington. Typically if a player can't practice by Friday, he doesn't play on Sunday, but Westbrook has gone the week without practicing before and suited up for the game (Sportsline)."

I would be really shocked if he plays, especially with Congress getting after the NFL about concussions. If LeSean McCoy is still a free agent in your league pick him up, and if you have Westbrook you should really be ready to play someone else. Right now Westbrook is a game time decision.

Red Sox Finally Have A SS?

DP will love this...

"Shortstop for the Boston Red Sox has been a black hole in recent years. Seven different starters have been used since the start of the 2004 season, including Alex Gonzalez, whose return for 2010 is far from a certainty. Sean McAdam of the Boston Herald writes that the Red Sox may finally have their long-term answer in Jose Iglesias, a 19-year-old Cuban defector who should be ready for the 2011 season (ESPN)."

I have heard nothing but great things about this kid. Still, he won't have an impact next season. My thinking is that they stay with Gonzalez at SS, unless they want to make a move and sign Marco Scutaro. Scutaro is very solid defensively and he has a great OBPs (.379), which we all know the Sox love.

Pacquiao Calls Out Mayweather

"Manny Pacquiao believes the biggest potential fight in boxing will never happen because Floyd Mayweather Jr. wants no part of him. Pacquiao is training in Hollywood for his meeting with Miguel Cotto on Nov. 14 in Las Vegas, but the pound-for-pound champion spared a moment Thursday to evaluate his chances of fighting Mayweather, the unbeaten pay-per-view king. Although the matchup almost certainly would be a financial bonanza for both fighters, Pacquiao thinks fans shouldn't hold their breath.

"I don't think it's going to happen," Pacquiao said. "I'm sure he doesn't want to fight. Boxing for him is like a business. He doesn't care about the people around him watching. He doesn't care if the fight is boring, as long as the fight is finished and he gets [plenty of] money. ... I want people to be happy. You have a big responsibility as a boxer (Sportsline)."

You never know what to believe in boxing. This could just be an attempt to hype up the fight, or it could be for real. Either way, Mayweather would kill Pacquiao. If you want a good fight Mayweather should fight Sugar Shane Mosley.

Eddie House And Son To Appear On Cartoon Network

Boston Celtics [team stats] guard Eddie House and his 9-year-old son, Jaelen, will star in “My Dad’s a Pro,” a live-action Cartoon Network day-in-the-life series that debuts Wednesday.

The Houses, who live in Arizona during the offseason, will appear in 4-minute episodes over 10 weeks that were shot during the past two hoop seasons from the perspective of Dad’s biggest little fan.more

This seems a little ridiculous, but good for Eddie I guess. I don't know what else to write about this.

Aroldis Chapman Already Being Awesome

Here is a picture of Cuban defector pitcher Aroldis Chapman in a strip club in Boston. Welcome to my fantasy team sir.

Tim Tebow Is A Patriot

During a chat on Deadspin, NFL scribe Peter King dropped the following bombshell: "I know two coaches in the NFL who are intrigued with what a running QB like [Tim] Tebow can do by being himself -- Belichick and Harbaugh." ESPN

God please let this happen. Not only would it revitalize my hatred for the New England Patriots that I have lost since Ted Bruschi left, but it would make a lot of Florida fans uneasy with the golden boy going to the evil Patriots. I honestly don't know what the Patriots would get if they happened to draft Gaybo, but if any team can figure out how to use his skills effectively it would be Bill Belichick.

DC Crashes "Girls Night Out"

Last night DP, Beer, and I met up with a buddy of ours from URI. He told us he knew a girl that could get us free drinks, so basically in my mind that means we are going to a bar....well I was dead wrong. We show up and it is a convention. At first I am like, whatever as long as it is free drinks I don't really care. Then I start to notice the crowd, and finally saw a sign....."GIRLS NIGHT OUT".

Literally we are the only dudes (except people working the event) in the entire place. Let me just tell you women do not like men crashing 'Girls night out'. Women were yelling at us "what the fuck are you doing here", and "football is on Sunday" (which I still don't really get). Anways, we just slug drinks. Some women are coming up to us to get pictures taken, and hang out, while others just instantly get agry at the very sight of us. As the night went on and the drinks kept going things got a little out of hand. We went from normal conversations to basicvally telling women that we are going to bend them over the table...no lie.

After some beer tasting and so forth we eventually are kicked out, because there had been several complaints. As we are getting ushered out yelling about sexism or something by two very large bouncers I had a thought. This kind of has to be how Jeter would feel if he was to hang out at a Boston bar. Some people would love it and get pictures taken, while others would instantly get angry at the very sight of him.

Anwyays, what you should learn from this is that women are just as sexist as men, and be very careful if you happen to fall into a "Girls Night Out"....

Oh and girly drinks catch up with you. Don't let them fool you.

3 Yankees, 1 Phillies

Both AJ Burnett and Pedro Martinez surpassed my expectations for last night, unfortunately Burnett and the Yanks came out the victors. Mark Teixeira and Hideki Matsui hit solo homers off Pedro Martinez who went 6 innings, 3 er and 8 ks, which isn't shabby for a guy who was fighting chickens months ago. AJ Burnett shut the Phillies hot offense down going 7 innings, 1 er, 9Ks. Here is an interesting fact: Alex Rodriguez became the first position player to post consecutive games of three or more strikeouts in a World Series. Uh Oh.

Devils 2, Bruins 1

It's not easy to celebrate a 2-1 loss to New Jersey. But compared to the kind of efforts the Bruins have put forth this season, this wasn't so bad. This was a playoff-type game. Tight defensive play (but no trapping, thank God), and the Devils came out on top. But in the long run, the Bruins will win these kinds of games more than they lose them.

Scoring. The Bruins couldn't slap home any loose pucks in front of the net. On most nights, they'd build a 2-0 cushion, but they just couldn't get the blades of their sticks on the puck. And that was their ultimate undoing.

But the Bruins are building good habits. They're playing good games. They're going to be alright.

NBA Extends Deadline For Rondo/ 06 Draft Class

The league has pushed the deadline for contract extensions for all players from the 2006 draft class from Saturday to Monday, league spokesman Tim Frank confirmed Thursday night. more

This isn't huge news, but I guess it's good for the Celtics in their hopes of extending Rondo's contract. I really believe they are going to get a deal done by Monday, and Rondo will be a lifelong Celtic. I think a 5 year, 55 million dollars will be enough to get him to stay.

Bruins @ Devils Preview

It is too bad the Bruins aren't playing the Devil's on their ice, because they have been terrible there. New Jersey is undefeated on the road though, so Boston could be in for a fight tonight.

The Devils lost last night to Buffalo 4-1, and now have to travel and play again tonight. This could work in Boston's favor as they Bruins are well rested after almost a week off. Brodeur, who is the all-time wins leader remains 1 shutout shy of tying Terry Sawchuk's NHL record of 103, has won 7 of his last 9 starts against Boston posting a 2.07 GAA.

Thomas has been good against the Devils though with a 2-1-1 record and a 1.50 GAA last season. Boston will still be playing without Savard and Lucic, but I expect Boston to keep the physical play up and try to grind out another win. If Boston can get through this early season rash of injuries they could be in really good shape the rest of the season.

Game starts at 7PM on NESN.

¡¡¡Hay Solamente Un Pedro!!!

There's only one Pedro.

And he pitches tonight in the World Series. His second career World Series start. As much publicity as Curt Schilling gets for his playoff record, Pedro's isn't exactly shabby. He's 6-2 with a 3.13 ERA and 1.054 WHIP. In 86.1 postseason innings, he's struck out 83 batters.

Schilling had the bloody sock, Pedro had a less visible but more impressive effort in Game 5 of the '99 ALDS. With a bad back and an 88 MPH fastball, he mowed through a murderous Indians lineup (Lofton-Vizquel-Alomar-Ramirez-Thome, etc. The Indians scored 1,009 runs in 1999), pitching 6 innings of NO-HIT relief to win Game 5.

Later in the '99 ALCS, Pedro was the only pitcher to record a postseason win against the New York Yankees that year. That's right, the Yankees went 11-1 in the 1999 playoffs, and that 1 loss was thanks to Pedro (and Roooooooooooooooooooger).

In the latest NLCS, he was once again brilliant. 7 innings, 2 hits, 0 runs. He was lifted after 87 pitches because the NL sucks and makes pitchers get pinch hit for. Then the Phillies' bullpen blew the 1-0 lead.

Pedro is my favorite player all-time in all sports. People think the Yankees will rock him tonight. Maybe. Maybe not. I just think it's fun to watch him pitch. He doesn't have the same blistering fastball, and his changeup is less effective, but now he's a crafty veteran who can outwit hitters and still make them look like fools.

I just wish Nelson were still alive to be his good luck charm.

Scalabrine Close To Returning

"Brian Scalabrine has been out nearly a week and a half due to an ankle injury, but he dressed last night for the Celtics' win, even though he didn't play.

"I think he's close," Doc Rivers told the Boston Globe.

Looking ahead, the Celtics could certainly use Scalabrine's contributions off the bench, now that Glen Davis is out six to eight weeks with a thumb injury (ESPN)."

I don't know how Scal is going to fit into the team this year, but he should be able to get some minutes while Big Baby is out. I like Scal, he plays hard, and is kind of an underrated defender. Don't get me wrong, he is not good, but you got to have a guy with Irish red hair somewhere on the team, right?

Manny To Return To Dodgers

"According to SI.com's John Heyman, Los Angeles Dodgers left fielder Manny Ramirez plans to exercise his player option for 2010, one that will pay Manny $20 million to be Manny (ESPN)."

Smart move by Manny. There was no chance he was going to get a better contract, so why not stay put? I think Manny is still a very good player, but I don't think we will ever see him put up the numbers he did in the 2nd half of last season. Still, he is one of the better 3/4 hitters (batting order) in the game.

Results From Chapman's Visit With Red Sox

"Free-agent Cuban left-hander Aroldis Chapman met with the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park on Wednesday and reportedly came away impressed with what he saw.

"Boston was one of the teams he was interested in from the start, and that certainly hasn't changed," Chapman's agent, Edwin Mejia, told The Boston Globe. "It was a very good visit."

Mejia told the Globe that he and Chapman met with baseball operations personnel and one player, whom Mejia would not identify. Chapman, 21, reportedly had been scheduled to throw for the Red Sox as well, though it is unclear whether the wet weather in the area Wednesday pushed back those plans (ESPN)."

I can guarantee you right now that Chapman will be a Red Sox. His agent is from Boston, and the Sox have shown they don't care about spending money they just don't want to give up draft picks or minor leaguers, so this is perfect for them. Chapman has a lot of talent (and I love that he is a lefty), but is also very raw (needs offspeed pitch, ect). Since I believe in the Sox minor league program, and the job Ferrell does with young pitching, I think Chapman has a very good chance at being a solid starter in the MLB (my guess 2-3 years).

Titans Finally Start Vince Young

"Vince Young will start for the winless Tennessee Titans on Sunday when they face the Jacksonville Jaguars at LP Field, according to a report in The (Nashville) Tennessean. Titans coach Jeff Fisher is expected to announce Thursday afternoon that Young gets the nod over incumbent Kerry Collins. The Tennessean has reported that owner Bud Adams told Fisher he prefers that Young is in the lineup (ESPN)."

It is about time. Collins is all done, and this teams season is already over. The Titans need to evaluate their talent, because they are going to have a very good draft pick coming up in next year's draft. If Vince Young wants to be a starting QB in this league he is going to have to prove to them that he can be a franchise QB. I don't think Vince Young can do it, but I agree that you have to at least give him a shot...

Omar Minaya On His Way Out

"Sources say longtime scout Sandy Johnson has agreed to return to the Mets as VP of scouting to continue assisting embattled general manager Omar Minaya after suggesting for weeks he was likely to retire, and some Mets officials believe the unusual effort made to retain Johnson is another sign of diminishing faith in Minaya.

Mets COO Jeff Wilpon is said to have thought it imperative that Johnson, who had a big hand in building winning teams in Texas and Arizona, return to boost the front office. Johnson had previously expressed to the Mets that he was likely to retire. Johnson was said by one club official to have been given basically "a blank check" to return, signaling the Mets' desperation to keep him. The vast majority of Mets scouts had their contracts renewed within the past few days with no raise, said to be the result of a bad economy and the team's poor performance (SI.com)."

My question is....WHY THE FUCK DOES THIS GUY STILL HAVE A JOB?????????

Honestly, there is no reason why he is still in charge. The Mets have been horrible, and Minaya can take a blame for a lot of it as they signed no starting pitching, and he has given out some bad contracts. Sometimes I am just amazed how some teams will just stick by a guy without any results...

Congress Attacking Goodell About Concussions

"NFL commissioner Roger Goodell did not acknowledge a connection between head injuries on the football field and later brain diseases while defending the league's policies on concussions before Congress on Wednesday. That frustrated several members of the House of Representatives Judiciary Committee, including the committee chairman, Michigan Democrat John Conyers, when Goodell told him the NFL isn't waiting for that debate to play out and is taking steps to make the game safer.

"I just asked you a simple question. What is the answer?" persisted Conyers.

Goodell replied by saying a medical expert could give a better answer than he could. But some House members complained later that Dr. Ira Casson, chairman of the NFL's committee on concussions, had not testified. Democratic Rep. Linda Sanchez gave Casson some exposure anyway, playing a clip of a TV interview in which he denied evidence of a link between multiple head injuries in NFL players with brain disorders such as dementia and Alzheimer's. Sanchez said that reminded her of tobacco companies denying a link between smoking and health damage in the 1990s(Sportsline)."

This story really aggravates me. First off it is up to the doctor to clear a player, so I really don't know how much say the NFL has anymore (used to be different). My other question (which I seem to be asking a lot) is why the fuck is congress involved in this? This is something the NFLPA should be all over. I think Congress probably have more important thing to attend to then concussions in NFL player. I think that most doctors are still learning about concussions, and that they are getting better. I really don't see how these hearing will do anything, unless they just put in more stupid rules (like not being able to hit QBs, ect).

Josh Freeman To Start

It's about f'n time. The Bucs are terrible, personally I believe they are the worst team in the league. They left Byron Leftwhich and Josh Johnson for far too long and it is about time they threw the rookie into the fire. I have been a huge Freeman ever since he went to K-State and believe he can be a very effective starter. He is very McNabbesk when it comes to playing. he has the wheels, but he would prefer to throw over running. He most likely won't be effective this year, due to the Bucs being god awful, but maybe he can squeak out a win here or there.

Penn State Gets Religousy

Michal Berns, a junior majoring in media law and policy, said she refused to buy the $15 shirt because of its religious connotations. “At first glance, you don’t necessarily think that’s what it looks like, but when you look at it more, it does look like a cross,” Berns told Foxnews.com. “That’s the reason I didn’t purchase it.”[..]

“Me personally, I’m not going to buy the shirts and I know others at [Penn State Hillel] who won’t, either.” more
It does have a little bit of a cross look but people need to chill out. It was supposed to look like Penn State's helmet that also has that strip across it. I'm sure Nike and Penn State's secret goal wasn't to convert people. So people should just shut up and pray for their team to get into a BCS title game.

92 Celtics, 59 Bobcats

Well the Celtics literally bitch slapped the Bobcats up and down the court. I predicted the game was going to win by a last second basket and boy was I wrong. Ray Allen was the only Boston starter to play in the fourth, scoring 18 points in all. Rajon Rondo scored 10 with 11 assists, and newcomers Rasheed Wallace and Shelden Williams came off the bench to help; Wallace had three 3-pointers and Williams had 12 points and nine rebounds. Shelden Williams has already surpassed my expectations this year. He has been awesome, he is a vicious rebounder and can get to the line pretty much any time he shoots. He is pretty much a replica of Leon Powe, and it will be interesting how the minutes will be spread out once Baby comes back.

Either way, great win and this play was awesome:

Larry Johnson Officially Suspended

"Kansas City Chiefs running back Larry Johnson, who made two gay slurs within a 24-hour period, was given what amounts to a one-game suspension Wednesday night, but Johnson's agent said he would appeal. Agent Peter Schaffer said the game check and other lost revenue would amount to about a penalty of about $600,000 for the former two-time Pro Bowl player. In a three-sentence release, the Chiefs said Johnson would be suspended until Monday, Nov. 9 for conduct detrimental to the team. The Chiefs are on their bye week and will not play again until traveling to Jacksonville on Nov. 8 (Sportsline)."

Well we all knew this was coming, and I have to say I think it should be longer. Really all the Chiefs are doing here is getting some money back and buying themselves sometime to see if they can trade him. Most likely he will be cut right after the suspension is over. This is a guy who is paid to be the face of the franchise, and he is calling out his coach, getting in trouble with the law, calling people "fags", oh and on top of all of that he is playing like shit.....see ya LJ.

College Football Picks

Once again, I was 2-2 last weekend. I'm settling into a nice .500 groove here. On the season, I'm 19-15, so not bad. This week, I'm looking to bust out though. Here are my picks for Saturday's game:

12:00 PM - ESPN
Indiana Hoosiers @ #4 Iowa Hawkeyes
There's no reason whatsoever to pick the Hoosiers to win this game. They've been awful. But last week I promised to pick Iowa's opponents until the Luckeyes are exposed for the unholy frauds that they are. Fuck the Big Ten, and fuck Iowa.

Prediction:
Indiana 3, Iowa 2

3:30 PM - CBS
Georgia Bulldogs vs. #1 Florida Gators (Jacksonville, FL)
I've just got a feeling that this will be the week that Florida falls. It's a rivalry game, in a neutral location. Georgia has nothing to lose, and Florida hasn't looked too sharp lately. This might just be wishful thinking on my part, but I think Georgia pulls through in this one.

Prediction:
Georgia 17, Florida 13

3:30 PM - ESPNU
Central Michigan Chippewas @ BC Eagles
CMU is pretty good. BC is pretty average. Good > Average. BC has to wait yet another week to attain bowl eligibility. The Chippewas will come in to BC with everyone saying "Who are these guys?" They'll leave with everyone saying "Damn, those guys were good."

Prediction:
CMU 31, BC 17

Yes, I found a picture of a cute girl wearing CMU gear.

8:00 PM - ABC
#3 Texas Longhorns @ #15 Oklahoma State Cowboys
This is Texas' big chance. Their win against Oklahoma doesn't mean much. Their non-conference schedule is crap. This is sort of a semi-final for Texas. They win this and the Big XII is essentially theirs. At the same time, OSU is 3-0 in conference play. If they win, they can claim the Big XII South with ease. Texas is too good and too semi-professional to slip up here.

Prediction:
Texas 38, OSU 14

8:00 PM - ABC
#5 USC Trojans @ #10 Oregon Ducks
This is a big one. The winner probably claims the Pac-10 title. The winner also has a pretty good case to be considered for the National Title Game, if certain teams in the SEC and Big XII fail to run the table. I'm rooting for Oregon with all my heart. I despise USC. They're chokers. What pisses me off is that people ignore their chronic choking. Unfortunately, they will prevail.

Prediction:
USC 41, Oregon 31

Phillies take game 1

Well, that was a comforting game for myself and the Philly nation. The phillies looked like composed, collected, confident champions. The Yankees on the other hand looked up tight and tense. You could see it in their body language throughout the game. Perhaps it was the fact that Cliff Lee continues to shut down teams in this post season.Did anyone see those two plays he made also? The most casual catch in WS history id say.

CC came out throwing, dont get it twisted. he actually had a decent night up until late. However it doesnt matter how many tuns you allow, if your teams cant make any of them up. Utley took the big man deep twice and exemplified what the Phillies have done all year, hit the long ball. 68% of their wins this year have come off the homerun, so why not keep hitting them.

I feel great going into tonight game. I feel like there is a tremendous amount of pressure lifted off of Pedro's shoulders and I look for him to step up to the challenge of beating these Yankees.

by the way, cool fact: Charlie Manuel has filled out his lineup card with the exact same pen since last season. Its just another piece of the puzzle. This guy.

Wow. The Phillies.
