Celtics vs. Cavs Preview

Here we go. Today is finally the day. I had to wait out baseball and dabble in hockey but finally the Boston Celtics start their campaign to get their trophy back. This offseason we signed Rasheed Wallace, Marquis Daniels and we will see how all the pieces together, and why not such a better foe then LeBron James and Cleveland Cavs. The Cavs also had a very busy offseason trading for Shaq, signing role players like Jamario Moon, Leon Powe and Anthony Parker and look to make a title run too. But lets get to the game itself the Celtics starting lineup is Rondo at the 1, Ray at the 2, Pierce at the 3, KG at the 4 and Perk at the 5 with Rasheed and Daniels as the first people off the bench. Cleveland has Mo Williams at the 1, Anthony Parker at 2, LeBron at the 3, Anderson Varejo at 4, and Shaq at 5 with Moon and big Z coming off the bench. Just looking at the roster we can see some weaknesses in Cleveland's squad.

We will start with the PG: There is no way that Mo Williams can stay in front of Rondo's slashing ability. But at the same time, Rondo can't gamble off Mo Williams and leave him open for three or that will hurt the C's dreadfully. I still give the advantage to Rondo here due to his energy and driving ability.

The SG spot has to go to Ray Allen and that is where the discussion ends. Anthony Parker is a good player, but he should be delegated to coming off the bench, not as a starter. Ray Allen is twice the player he is.

The SF position I guess has to go to LeBron. I like Paul Pierce and I believe if this game comes to a last second shot I trust him over anyone in the league. LeBron is going to have a better game stats wise, but I believe Pierce could have a bigger impact when the game matters.

KG, KG, KG. All eyes are going to be on Kevin and Sideshow Bob can't even be worthy of sniffing his jock strap. Kevin Garnett is going to show rust tonight, he is. But with that he is still going to be better then anything Anderson Vareajo or Big Z can do.

The Center position is interesting because Shaq is Shaq and Perk is Perk. They are both extremely physical and under the basket players. Perk is a very important player this year, he will have to take a scoring load of the big three and believe he is very capable of doing that. We saw signs of brilliance during the playoffs last year, and if he can keep that up the Celtics will be that more dangerous. I do give the advantage to Shaq, but once Rasheed comes in and makes Shaq have to defend the perimeter the advantage quickly shifts back to the C's.

This game will be close, but the Celtics will pull away in the 4th quarter with their defense. The score will be 97-85.
