Celtics vs Cavs Preview

Hopefully the C's won't overlook the Cavs tonight like they did on the second game of the season.

The Cavaliers may not have the best looking roster but they are 7-9, so they have to have at least some talent.

As you can see the bulk of scoring comes from the PG and PF position. I'm going to assume Rondo will make Mo Williams have a very long night, but JJ Hickson does worry me to an extent. Hickson is very athletic and can probably outquick KG, that could cause problems with fouls on not only KG, but the collapsing Shaq, Semih and Baby.

That is really my only major concern other then that the Celtics SHOULD win this game.

Red Sox Should Offer Jeter A Contract

A lot is being made of Jeter and the Yankees' negotiation process. Jeter (according to many reports) wants a lot more then the three-year, $45 million contract they are currently offering. Jeter is looking for something like a 4-5 year deal worth $23 million a season. Obviously that is outrageous for Jeter, but the Sox could really come in and fuck everything up, and I think they should.

What if the Sox came in and offered Jeter a 3 year deal worth $54 million a year? In the worst case scenario Jeter actually accepts the contract and the Sox are stuck with the aging shortstop. Even in this case they will demoralize a proud Yankees franchise, and ruin the legacy one of the greatest Yankees of all-time. Oh yea, and he is still better then most other SS in the game.

But the most likely scenario would be the Yankees would have to up their offer and offer Jeter near $20 million a year for 3-4 years. This hurts the Yankees who already have a bunch of huge contracts and are about to sign Cliff Lee. Although the Yankees seem to have an endless amount of money that luxury tax could hurt them, especially with so many guys signed to long term contracts.

So, come on Sox! Why not piss off the Yankees for old time sake!!!!

Drew Brees Wins SI Sportsman Of The Year

Drew Brees was honored as Sports Illustrated's Sportsman of the Year for his championship on the field and his charity off it. I really can't come up with someone who deserves it more. He finally got the Saints a championship, he has worked nonstop to help that community ( his foundation has worked with nearly 50 New Orleans schools and organizations to aid in recovery), and overall is just a good guy. So, good for him, the city obviously needed this team to lift their spirits after Katrina, and though it solved very little it at the very least let them forget their troubles for a little while.

Drew Brees is an example of what a professional athlete should be.

Why Not?

Why not watch this chick go nuts on mushrooms?

Frank Gore Breaks Hip

Brain Westbrook broke out last night, and he is going to get a lot more chances to do so with Frank Gore going down with a broken hip. Gore was hurt on San Francisco's first series, then briefly tried to come back before going out for good in the second quarter. This injury obviously knocks Gore out for the year, and that could be a huge blow.

Even though Westbrook put up 136 yards rushing last night, it was against Arizona, who looks like they have given up on their season. Westbrook hasn't played much all year, and I just don't know if he is going to be able to take the punishment needed to make this offense work. Then again, the 49ers are only 1 game back from a playoff spot (what a joke), so if he can get them there he could land himself a new contract.

Yankees One Step Closer To Signing Cliff Lee

"The winter meetings are less than a week away, and there are signs Cliff Lee will land with the Yankees once the baseball world gathers in Orlando, reports George King of the New York Post.

There have been conflicting reports whether the Yankees have offered Lee a six-year deal worth $140 million. If that is true, one AL executive said it will be enough to get it done. "At that money (the Rangers) are out of it. That leaves the Yankees," the executive tells King (ESPN)."

This blows for Red Sox fans as this will obviously give the Yankees the best pitching staff going into the 2011 season, but we have known he was going there since the middle of last season, so whatever. The question is what this could mean for the rest of the offseason. I actually think this will take the Yankees out of the races for players like Carl Crawford and Jayson Werth. This could help the Sox lower the price, but not by much as the Angels are rumored to be going hard after Crawford (and who the fuck wants Jayson Werth anyways).

As for the Rangers, most rumors suggest they will try to land Andy Pettitte, but I don't see them pulling that off, so their best option might be to pull off a trade for Zach Greinke.

Why Not?

Why Not watch Derek Anderson lose His shit?

Toine Back

Former Celtic Antoine Walker plans to sign with the D-League in an attempt at a comeback. Walker made it be known that he wanted to attempt a comeback last summer, but he saw little interest from the NBA. Walker hasn't played in the NBA since the 2008 season when he appeared in 47 games for the Timberwolves. He did have a meaningful role on the Heat when they won the NBA title in 2006.WEEI

I fee bad for Toine, who was my favorite Celtic of all time. I once thought the Celtics should build around him over Pierce for some strange reason. He was an unbelievable post dribbler, an above average dribbler, passer, and scorer, however, off the court issues with money and weight training issues always kept Toine down.

I hope he can make a comeback in the D League even though he probably won't. I want employee number 8 back.

I Love the South

The University of Alabama fired a part-time employee for playing unscripted and unapproved songs before Alabama's game with Auburn last Friday. The employee played songs that mocked the allegations surrounding Cam Newton, such as "Take the Money and Run," and "Son of a Preacher Man."

While I think the school is right to fire this guy, as their procedure is that all PA music be pre-approved, and while I think Cam Newton is innocent until proven guilty, I found this hilarious. And I commend the guy who had the stones to lose his job for a joke. Hell, his season of work at the football stadium was over anyway.

Andre Johnson and Cortland Finnegan Get Fined 25 K Each?

If anything was due for a suspension this fight was due for one:

Finnegan set off the brawl by jabbing at Johnson's neck and face mask at the line of scrimmage. Johnson ripped off Finnegan's helmet and landed at least two punches to Finnegan's head and neck. The two spun each other, and Finnegan tore off Johnson's helmet before players and referees intervened.

25K isn't enough. Hell 25 K is what James Harrison gets fined a game. This is worth a suspension and the only reason commissioner Goodell didn't suspend Johnson is for marketing reasons for Thursday nights football game where the Texans take on the Eagles.

The Eagles should already whoop them but without Andre Johnson they wouldn't have a chance. Even though it will never be said, it's still a BS reason.

Bruins Trade Hunwick

Marc Savard is close to returning, and we all knew that they had to shed some salary to clear sufficient cap room for him to return. So the Bruins sent Matt Hunwick and his $1.45 million salary to Colorado. In return, they got Colby Cohen, a 21 year old defenseman out of BU. Cohen is known more for his offense. You may remember him scoring BU's OT game-winner in the NCAA Finals a few years back. Word is, he still needs a lot of work to be a good positional defenseman.

What can you say about this deal. The Bruins trade a decent young defenseman who can contribute on offense, and get back a potentially decent young defenseman who can contribute on offense. But they free up cap space for Savard. And they need Savard.

And while I like that the NHL has a salary cap, I just wish there were more ways for teams to hang on to talent that they develop. Exemptions, or other write-offs would be nice. And it'd also be nice if teams like the Coyotes and Predators could be contracted so that average team revenue wouldn't go down, so the cap wouldn't go down.

Avery Bradley To Get More Playing Time

The Celtics have lost Delonte West for at least a couple of months, and that could leave a big hole in their second unit. Right now, Nate Robinson has been picking up the slack, but with Rondo just coming off injury (hamstring/foot) you have to wonder if we are going to see more of 1st round pick Avery Bradley.

The Herald brought up this point today, and I found it somewhat interesting. The Celtics haven't liked playing their draft picks over the past couple of years. Well, basically since the Big Three showed up. Lester Hudson, Tony Gaffney, Oliver Lafayette, Bill Walker, JR Giddens, ect. Even guys like Semih Erden were drafted a couple years back, and is just finally getting some time.

What hurts Bradley is that he missed all of training camp, most of the preseason, and Doc says he only knows about 10% of what he needs to. Yet, no one questions that he has the physical tools to step up. It might take some time, but I think Bradley is going to end up being a key member of this team. What Rivers really likes is that he has the ability of being a shutdown guard, which could be key after losing Tony Allen this offseason.

Whatever happens either Nate Robinson needs to play more consistent or someone else is going to need to carry that 2nd units PG position.

Why Not?

Why not see Sidney Crosby being good at hockey?

Spoelstra On His Way Out

We all knew it was coming, but now there are "named sources" from the Heat that say that the players aren't buying into Spoelstra coaching style...

"He's jumping on them," one source said. "If anything, he's been too tough on them. Everybody knows LeBron is playful and likes to joke around, but Spoelstra told him in front of the whole team that he has to get more serious. The players couldn't believe it. They feel like Spoelstra's not letting them be themselves (ESPN)."

Sounds like Lebron is being a bitch again. So basically this "source" is saying they aren't winning because they are too serious. Really? Is that really the best excuse you can make. The problem is that you don't have a consistent out side shooter, a tough inside man, or a point guard. Plus you signed 2 players who are so similar that it will be tough to get them to work together.

Now there is video of Lebron "bumping" Spoelstra...

This is becoming a big story on the web, but I don't think it is that big of a deal. Then again with all these "unnamed sources" coming out maybe Lebron was trying to be a tough guy. Either way, even if they make a coaching change it is not going to fix there personnel problems. At this point they might just have to do to keep LeFag happy.

TCU and I Are Cool Now

The Horned Frogs have accepted an invitation to join the Big East as an all-sports member, sources told ESPNDallas.com's Richard Durrett on Monday morning. TCU has scheduled a press conference for 1 p.m. CT to make "a major announcement involving the TCU athletics program." ESPN

Way to have balls. TCU wanted to get recognized nationally, they did something about it. The Big East is a little questionable for a Texas team to join, however, you have to admire their will to embrace a somewhat tougher conference.

Hows the crow taste Boise.

Hahahaha Boise State

The drumming that Nevada put on Boise State in their 34-31 win should be talked about here.

I don't care how Nevada won and I don't care about the kicker situation,(obviously Nevada's special teams were too intimidating for Boise State to handle) I care that we don't need to hear from Boise State anymore.

Boise State has been a constant thorn in my side for years. I'm sick of them playing a fluff schedule and then complaining on how the NCAA doesn't respect them. Yes we remember their funny hijinks against Oklahoma, and that was a cool story, but they are just bitchy at this point and I'm glad they got humbled.

They beat an overrated Virgina Tech team and Oregon State.. sweet. Try playing in the SEC, Pac 10, or Big 12, d bags.

Boise State and TCU are scam artists. They found a clever get rich quick scam that got the public to support them using the David vs Goliath and the NCAA is trying to screw them theories.

Boise State and TCU are no longer David's. They have Goliath programs in David conferences. I'm not taking away from the program, they have a good football team, however, just imagine the outcry if Bama or Auburn ran through the Toledos and San Jose States of the world on a weekly basis en route to the coaches trophy.

Boise State go screw and join a real division. Until then you're a 3rd grade bully picking on 1st graders.

Spygate 2: Josh McDaniels Saga

"What the fack! Fackin Bellichick is screwed over again!! Everyone hates the fackin Pats! This league is so facked, always against the Pats! Welkaaaaaaaaah!" Said all New England Patriots yesterday

"The NFL fined the Denver Broncos and coach Josh McDaniels $50,000 each because the team's video operations director filmed a San Francisco 49ers practice in London last month, breaking league rules.

The NFL investigation determined Steve Scarnecchia took a six-minute video of the walkthrough and presented it that day to McDaniels. The coach declined to view it. Still, the NFL fined both the coach and team because the matter was not promptly reported, as required by the league."

It's not surprising that a former Patriots worker tried doing this again in Steve Scarnecchia who was involved with the Patriots cheating scandals in the early 2000's. Scarnecchia is banned from the NFL for life.

In addition, the investigation found that when Scarnecchia offered to show the tape to McDaniels, the coach replied, "No, I'm not doing that." Scarnecchia said he didn't show the tape to any other staff member.

Goodell's letter said "under circumstances that would have made it impossible for him to have spoken to Mr. Scarnecchia in advance" and that McDaniels' recollection of events matched Scarnecchia's.

So what's the difference? The Bronco's eventually admitted their wrongdoing, didn't look at the tape and even with the tape the Bronco's still lost the game.

The Patriots were accused of cheating, lied about it, and was found guilty of doing so. Also, it was a much bigger stage, and the Patriots gained a competitive edge on the Rams, Panthers and Eagles. The Patriots also made low level interns do it, Scarnecchia did it on his own.

So the Broncos and McDaniels got the penalties they deserved and so did the Patriots. Even though I would have taken away their championships too.
