Yankees Rotation Coming Together?

The Yankees have sustained injuries to their rotation, but they seem to be on their way back. Hughes is expected to make two more rehab starts before being activated from the disabled list, and Colon is expected back the first or 2nd week of July. Even with this news I have my questions with the Yankees staff.

For one I have not been impressed with Hughes. In his rehab start he started out throwing 95 MPH, which was great news. Then it quickly feel, and by the 5th inning he was back to throwing 88. He is not going to be affective at that speed.

I still feel Garcia and Colon are on borrowed time, and even though the Yankees are playing well right now they won't do too much unless they make a trade for more starting pitching.

Bartolo Colon Is Missing

"Chicago White Sox pitcher Bartolo Colon is scheduled to make a minor league rehab start for Triple-A Charlotte on Thursday. Problem is, the White Sox don't know where he is. "I know where he is supposed to be right now. He's supposed to be in Charlotte, preparing to start Thursday," White Sox GM Ken Williams said Tuesday, according to the Chicago Tribune. "Efforts to contact his agent have been successful. Their efforts to contact their client have not been so successful (ESPN)."

Would anyone really be shocked if he is dead? I know that is horrible, but honestly I see this guys life ending tragically. Anyways, maybe he is just pulling a Raul Mondesi, and just got sick of baseball. Colon is good for about 10 starts every year, but he doesn't take care of himself, so he is never a major factor. It is really too bad, because he was one of the more talented pitchers when he was younger...

Red Sox Suspend Colon

Bartolo Colon's wild ride with the Red Sox has come to an end, it seems. After multiple comeback attempts, always ending with injuries (shocking considering how healthy he is), Colon has been suspended by the Red Sox. He went down to the Dominican a few days ago, and has decided to stay there.

There had been a slim (weird using that word here) possibility of Colon being used out of the bullpen in the playoffs as a long reliever. And in an emergency, he may have started a game. But I don't think he liked the prospects of working with the possibility of no results. I mean, why work when you can stay at home, eat Doritos, and order pants from a special catalog?

So he's suspended without pay for the rest of the year.

The year-long Colon saga was fun, because it drew out the uber-optimists in Red Sox Nation. These guys/gals have been fans for 5 years, when everything's been hunky dory. They don't remember the days of bad luck, injuries, neverending rehabs, and Darren Lewis. These people not only thought Colon would stay healthy, but that he'd be healthy enough to win 15 games for the Sox!!! HA!

Colon's Red Sox career:

7 starts, 39 innings pitched, 4 wins, 2 losses, 3.92 ERA, 27 strikeouts, 10 walks.

Sox Win Night Game Vs. Jays 7-5

The Sox really needed a win tonight after dropping a game earlier to the Jays. This game was far from being an easy win as the Jays scored 5 runs in the 2nd inning off Colon to take a 5-2 lead. Colon was able to keep his composure, and kept the Jays quiet through the rest of the 6 innings he pitched. Boston was down 5-4 going into the bottom of the 8th, until Jacoby Ellsbury drove in the go-ahead run on single as Toronto pitcher Scott Downs fell down going after the ball and the Red Sox rallied for 3 runs in the inning to go up 7-5. The Sox bullpen was the key to winning this game as Masterson, Lopez, and Papelbon combined to pitch 3 scoreless innings. Papelbon came in for the save in the 9th, and he easily got it for his 37th save of the season. Boston is now 2 games back of the Rays for the AL East lead, and 5 1/2 ahead of the Twins for the Wild Card lead. This loss will finally end the Jays season.
