Jim Leyritz Arrested Again

"Authorities say former major leaguer Jim Leyritz has been arrested and accused of battery in South Florida. The arrest comes about two months before he faces a trial on a DUI manslaughter charge. Broward County Jail spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion said Leyritz was booked Thursday morning after an incident in Davie, a Fort Lauderdale suburb. She could not provide additional details. The 45-year-old Leyritz played for six teams in 11 seasons. During a stint with the New York Yankees, he hit a memorable home run in the 1996 World Series to help the Yankees win Game 4 against Atlanta. Police say Leyritz was drunk when he caused a fatal car crash in December 2007. He is scheduled to go on trial in September (Sportsline)."

Wow this guy is a fucking mess. He was a hero in NEw York for a long time, but now he has been reduced to just another former athlete that can't get his life together. This will obviously not help is DUI/manslaughter case coming up, so I expect to see this guy behind bars for a long, long time.

Dark Days Continue For Yankees

"Former major leaguer Jim Leyritz, who is facing trial on DUI manslaughter charges, was taken to a Florida hospital after telling police he was concerned about failing a Breathalyzer test in his car, and was "under a lot of stress" because of his legal problems, authorities said Thursday (Sportsline)."

If you can remember Leyritz killed a woman while drinking and driving, so now he has a Breathalyzer in his car. He says he had not been drinking, and the cops found no evidence that he had been, so the machine may have been just not working. Still, it is hard to feel bad for this guy since he killed someone. You have to wonder if this all goes back to steroids. Leyritz was part of the Mitchell report and was a steroid user, and after seeing guys like Caminiti's life fall apart you have to wonder if there is a direct connection between the drugs he was taking, and how his life turned out. Anyways, this guy is just another bum, which the Yankees seem to have a laundry list of over the past couple of years....
