Breaking News: Kurt Warner Retires

I hate Kurt Warner I really do, but I am going to give him his day. He has announced his retirement, and I really think that is a great idea, because he has had some concussions, and if he stuck around there is no question in my mind that he would have got seriously hurt.

Now that his career is over the questions is whether or not he is a Hall of Famer. In my eyes there is no question. They guy is a first ballot Hall of Famer. He has 2 MVPs, a Super Bowl ring, and the stats to back up his career.

So, congratulations Warner you had a hell of a career, but you're still a fag.

Warner "Feeling Great" After Surgery

"Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner has undergone arthroscopic surgery on his left hip. The team said that the operation to repair a torn labrum and "clean up some loose fragments" was performed Tuesday by Dr. Marc Philippon at the Steadman Hawkins Clinic in Vail, Colo (Sportsline)."

I hate Kurt Warner with every inch of my body, but I have to admit he did a hell of a job getting the Cardinals to the Super Bowl last year. Sure he has been in some incredible offenses, and that is the reason why he has had success, but you can't fault him for that. If the Cardinals are going to do anything they are going to need him 100%, and from the sound of it he will be fine for the opening of the 2009 season. Still, I think they are going to need a lot more out of their running game if they are going to have any shot at repeating their success that they had in the NFC last year.

Is Kurt Warner That Noble?

Remember when Kurt Warner said he was willing to take a pay cut to keep Anquan Boldin? Remember when he said that he would give 1 million dollars back a year for him?

Well since he got his 2 year 23 million dollar deal that talk has gone away. He said with a straight face that the issue hasn't brought up. That's absurd Kurt, do you take us for idiots. Obviously, Kurt is like the rest of the money grubbing assholes out there and really could care less whether Boldin stays or not. Like I have been saying for years, Warner is a douche bag and it's time we knock this overrated prick off his high horse.

Warner Signs With Cardinals

"The Arizona Cardinals and Kurt Warner agreed Wednesday to a two-year deal, $23 million deal, according to his agent, Mark Bartelstein. He will have $19 million of the contract guaranteed. Under the terms of the deal, Warner will receive a $15 million signing bonus and $4 million base in each of the two seasons (ESPN)."

No shocking news here, and it looks like I have to hate the Cardinals for another 2 years. It would have been hard for Arizona to let Warner walk after bringing them to the Super Bowl, and with a new stadium, you really don't want to piss off your fans. Now you have to wonder if Leinart will ever get his shot.

Kurt Warner Visits 49ers

Yesterday QB Kurt Warner and dike wife Brenda went to visit the 49ers and took a physical while they were at it. This is all a ploy to get the Cardinals to give Warner massive amounts of money, however, if the Cards were to call Warner's bluff, would it be that bad of a move? As much as Kurt Warner has been a great QB for Arizona, they drafted Matt Leinart for a reason. He is going to be the future for this franchise and if Warner is going to be a dick, you have to give the kid a chance. It worked out for Aaron Rodgers, why wouldn't it work for Leinart. If the Cards let go of Warner and then somehow convince Boldin to shut up, then how could Leinart be bad. I'm pretty sure, I could be semi successful with Fitzgerald, Boldin, and Breaston as my WRs.(I honestly believe i could throw for at least 100 yards a game).

**UPDATE**

"On Tuesday, Warner instructed his agent, Mark Bartelstein, to make a two-year, $23 million proposal to stay with the Cardinals. According to Bartelstein, Warner's proposal would include $12 million in guarantees, $6 million each season (ESPN)."

DP was 100% correct. The only reason he went out to San Fran was to make the Cardinals sweat. I think Arizona will take this deal, and it really doesn't sound that outrageous.

Superbowl Breakdowns

With the Superbowl only days away it's hard for a Steelers fan like me not to get excited. So in this first rendition of the Superbowl breakdowns, today I will be focusing on the quarterbacks:

This is really a tale of two qbs. One was a journeyman that went from a grocery store worker to a gun slinging Superbowl MVP, and the other is a young play making stud out of college that has found ways to win through adversity and his own stupidity. I'll start with Warner.

Kurt has a big arm and is deadly accurate deep, and with the way the Cardinals offensive line has been playing he has enough time to hit one of his stud wide receivers easily. Both Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin are both premier wide receivers in the league and having Steve Breaston as the slot WR makes this a scary match-up no matter what type of defense the Cards are playing against. Warner has earned his spot in the Hall of Fame with this Superbowl bid and with a victory it would solidify his spot. The only weakness Kurt Warner has is his limited mobility and his non existent game when he has a heavy blitz ahead of him. If the Steelers can hold Warner to under 300 yards it would be a victory on their end.

Next Ben Roethlisberger:
Big Ben has had to rely heavily on the run game and been lopped into the manager type quarterback until the past couple of seasons. With Willie Parker being banged up all season, Ben has been asked to shoulder more of the offensive burden. In 9 games that he threw over 30 passes he has won 7 of them, and this game will be another one where he has to run the offense. Ben has been a master of the broken play and impromptu play making, and many of his critics say that is a negative trait, I say it may be his best trait. I watched the Steelers a lot this year and with the problems they had with their offensive line, he had to, and he did it often and it worked out a lot. But there is a downside to that, with Ben holding onto the ball longer than he should he often takes a lot of unnecessary hits making him constantly in pain. Since Hines Ward is back, and Santonio Holmes continues to be the play maker Antwaan Randle El was, I like Ben in this match-up. Arizona's defense loves putting pressure and Ben can definitely take advantage of that.
