Patrick Chung Seems To Be OK

Reports are coming out that Patriots safety Patrick Chung is fine after he left the Pats' game against the Chargers with an apparent knee injury. He was seen walking around the locker room with no apparent limp today, and when asked how he was doing he gave the reports a thumbs up. Not that this is the best reporting, but that's what you got to go on when covering the Patriots.

Chung is fast becoming one of my favorite players on the Patriots. Why? Because he is one of the few guys on this defense that I actually trust making a tackle. It remains to be seen just what kind of player he can become down the road, but I think his skill set can really help the Patriots try to control Adrian Peterson this weekend, since he can act like another linebacker in the box.

Patrick Chung Fined

"Patriots rookie safety Patrick Chung has been fined $7,500 days after he received a roughing the passer penalty for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Miami Dolphins quarterback Chad Henne in Sunday's 27-17 victory. The hit in the third quarter of Sunday's game resulted in a 15-yard penalty, moving the Dolphins to their own 41-yard line. But Miami was unable to score on the drive (Boston.com)."

Even though I am a huge Tom Brady fan I hate all these new rules. It is really ruining the sport. This fine means nothing, but it is just a snapshot at a problem going on around the NFL. Safety is important, but these guys know what they are getting themselves into when they get on the field...

Patriots Sign Ron Brace

"The Patriots have signed another draft pick, locking up nose tackle Ron Brace. Brace's agent, Nate Haber, announced the news via his Twitter feed, saying that Brace had agreed to a four-year deal with the club with roughly $2.82 million in guarantees (Boston.com)".

The Patriots picked this guy, because they are worried they are not going to be able to keep Wilfork after this year. It was a smart move to sign a guy this year, so at least he can learn the system for a year before he might have to take over. I am not completely sold on this guy, but he is big, and the Patriots are usually good at developing defensive linemen.

The Patriots still need to sign Chung before the season starts. I have not read anything yet about how close that deal is. The other draft picks that are not signed are McKenzie, who is out for the season after tearing his ACL during rookie mini-camp, offensive lineman George Bussey, and long-snapper Jake Ingram.

NFL Scout Says Chung Is A Stud

Rob Rang, a senior analyst for NFLDraftScout.com said "There isn't a single player on this list (or the offensive list, for that matter) that I have more confidence in developing into a true standout than Chung. I tagged him as the most reliable open-field tackler in the 2009 draft".

I really hope he is write. The Patriots need a hard hitting safety that can cover a lot more ground then Harrison did. The Patriots really need this kid to step up, and if he can the Patriots have a great core of young players on defense with Mayo, Chung, ect....
