Future Of Sports Medicine

I read this story, and I found it really awesome...

"The New York Times reports that Bartolo Colon underwent a new type of treatment in April of 2010 that may have a lot to do with his resurgence so far in 2011 with the Yankees. A team of doctors, led by Joseph R. Purita of Boca Raton, Fla. used fat and bone marrow stem cells from Colon, injecting them back into Colon's elbow and shoulder to help repair ligament damage and a torn rotator cuff. “This is not hocus-pocus,” Purita said in an interview with the Times. “This is the future of sports medicine, in particular. Here it is that I got a guy back playing baseball and throwing pitches at 95 miles an hour (CBS Sports).”

Saito also used this procedure and it bought him another 2 years of productive time in the majors. This doctor has now gone out and offered the surgery for Pedro Martinez, I have no idea if he'll do it, but that's pretty awesome. Anyways, this is the future and the further they get with stem cells and such I think medicine is going to be incredible for athletes. Imagine if Jermaine O'Neal could basically have new knees, and imagine all the careers that were ended so early? That might not be the case in the near future!
