Andre Smith Already A Bengals Bust

Cincinnati Bengals first-round choice Andre Smith just ended his holdout, but now he'll be sitting again.

The offensive lineman suffered a fracture in a foot during a noncontact drill Tuesday and it is not known how long he will be out, but he will miss the Bengals' opener on Sept. 13. Smith missed 30 days before agreeing to terms two days ago.

Things just get worse and worse for this kid. First he goes from being the top offensive lineman to having a terrible camp and falling to 6th, then he holds out for a majority of the preseason, and then he breaks his foot and will miss two week of the regular season. He has bust written all over him. The reason why losing him is significant is because Carson Palmer is already limping around and they need to protect him big time. Andre Smith was drafted to do that however, he just looks like a giant waste of space.

Bengals Finally Sign Andre Smith

"Offensive tackle Andre Smith signed a contract Sunday with the Cincinnati Bengals, ending an impasse that dragged on a month into the preseason. The Bengals originally planned to have Smith start at right tackle, but he has missed three preseason games. He was in Cincinnati and agreed to the deal shortly before the start of a late afternoon practice, allowing him to get back on the field. The four-year deal includes $21 million guaranteed. The team has an option after the 2010 season that would turn it into a six-year deal that includes $29.5 million guaranteed (Sportsline)."

About fucking time. I don't know about everyone else, but this kid has bust written all over him. He has missed so much of camp, and you add that to all the trouble he had around draft time, and you are just setting yourself up for an implosion. If you have been watching Hard Knocks then you would know the Bengals have been ripping on this guy all the time, while he was not there. It will be interesting to see how the team brings him in...

Former Bama OT Andre Smith was going to be the first tackle taken off the board two months ago, however, an escape from the combine and a shitty pro day, has not only cost Smith millions, but his career. Andre Smith had very unimpressive numbers yeasterday when it came to tackles. Neither his 40 time, bench press or vertical put him within the top ten for his position. This really confuses me about Smith. Smith obviously has top 5 potential, but he either has to be a headcase or just a really shitty work ethic to let this happen to him before the draft. Either way, I hope he drops to the Steelers.
