Breaking News: Vikings Fire Childress

Well it has finally happened...

"The Minnesota Vikings have relieved Brad Childress of his coaching duties and promoted defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier to interim coach for the rest of the season, the team said (ESPN)."

It is about fucking time, but the Vikings shouldn't stop here they need to send Favre home too. Their season is over, and there is no reason to let that bum finish the year. They should see if Tavarius Jackson can handle being the starting QB, because at this point he can only help, and I am sure he will throw a lot less picks.

Childress lost this locker room a long time ago, but I can't feel bad for him. He made a deal with the devil when he brought Favre in last year, and it is about time that bit him in the ass.

One Win Doesn't Cure Everything

A lot of people thought the Vikings comeback last week might have saved Brad Childress' job, but today ESPN (via the Chicago Sun-Times) is reporting that the mood in the locker room is not any better, and that it is not IF, but WHEN Childress will be fired...

Vikings player: "We know that Childress doesn't have our backs, so why should we have his? We're playing for us, and we're winning despite him."

Vikings team source: "He has absolutely no people skills."

Vikings player: "As much as I hate Childress, I will keep playing (ESPN)."

We already know that Childress almost got canned when he cut Randy Moss without telling the front office, and if these quotes are true then it is really just a matter of time. My guess is if they lose one more game he will be gone, and unless they go on some crazy run he will be gone after this season. ESPN says that if Childress does get the boot defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier would be promoted to interim coach.

Brad Childress' Grave Only Gets Deeper

Brad Childress waived Randy Moss. Whether that is right or wrong is something that can be debated, but when you make a bold move like this you may any to check in with the guys who sign your checks, because now there are reports that the front office is not very happy about the decisions Childress has been making.

Maybe if the Vikings were 5-2 instead of 2-5 they would've trusted him, but in recent weeks he has thrown his QB under the bus, traded away a 3rd round pick for Moss, then waived him, so you figure the least he could do is give the guys on top a quick heads up about the bold move he was about to do.

I just can't see them keeping Childress around after this year, but if they Vikings choose to get rid of him it won't come without a price, as Childress just signed an extension last year.

Oh by the way the deadline to put in a waiver claim on Randy Moss is 4pm today.

Brad Childress Gets 4 Year Extension

It's a good move but I'm not sold on the Vikings or Childress. The Vikings are incredible this year but what happens once Favre retires. They will be a completely mediocre team again. Childress has made that defense into a force, but I still question their offense other than AP. Favre is having a good year, but I'm waiting for the picks to start coming again.

More Favre Comeback Rumors

"Quarterback great Brett Favre says he's retired, but Minnesota coach Brad Childress acknowledges the Vikings may try to woo him back to the NFL later in this offseason (Sportsline)."

This will just add more fuel to the fire. Rumors have been swirling after Favre asked to be released by the Jets (twice!), and he even made a point in his statement to put in "at this time" when talking about being retired. Favre is a prick, and I really do think he is coming back. I think he still has a chip on his shoulder about what happened between him and the Packers. So he wants to piss them off by joining a team in their division that also could be in Super Bowl contention.
