Brandon Webb Goes To Rangers

To be honest, I don't really know what to expect from Brandon Webb. He hasn't pitched in a couple of years and is coming off major shoulder injuries. When he did pitch he was in the Cy Young race constantly even winning it in 2006. But that was then.

The Rangers hand though was forced after they lost out on Cliff Lee and Zack Grienke. Webb will be joined in the Rangers' rotation by left-hander C.J. Wilson, who won 15 games, and Colby Lewis. Tommy Hunter and Derek Holland are leading candidates for additional rotation spots

I'm in an AL Fantasy league and most likely will be staying far away from him.

Brandon Webb To Have Season Ending Surgery

"After trying a conservative approach to rehabilitating his sore pitching shoulder, Arizona Diamondbacks ace Brandon Webb will now opt for season-ending surgery. "We support his decision to have surgery," Diamondbacks executive vice president and general manager Josh Byrnes said. "Obviously, we exhausted every other course of treatment." Dr. Keith Meister of the Rangers will perform surgery on Webb's right shoulder on Monday in Arlington, Texas (ESPN)."

Webb is one of my favorite pitchers in the MLB. He is just a flat out workhorse, but you just never know how guys are going to comeback after a surgery like this. On one hand he has pitched more than 200 innings every season from 2004-2008 and won 56 games between 2006 and 2008, but on the other hand the Diamondbacks have a team option on Webb for 2010 at $8.5 million but can buy out the deal for $2 million. They are really going to need to track is progress closely to see if he is worth the investment. My guess is that they keep him...

Webb On DL

Arizona ace Brandon Webb is headed to the 15-day disabled list with tightness in his pitching shoulder. This is not a good sign for the Diamondback, who lose their ACE within the first week. I personally hate Brandon Webb. I have hated him for no reason other than he competed with Dontrelle Willis for the rookie of the year award way back. But Webb is the Diamondbacks only chance of sniffing the playoffs in a weak NL West, so this certainly isn't a good sign.

Webb Having Shoulder Problems

"Arizona Diamondbacks ace Brandon Webb will skip his next start because of shoulder stiffness. Manager Bob Melvin said Yusmeiro Petit will take Webb's scheduled start Saturday night at home against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Webb will not throw at all for two days. Webb, whose 22 victories led the National League last season, experienced stiffness in his shoulder during Arizona's 9-8 Opening Day victory over the Rockies (ESPN)."

Well this makes my Arizona D-Backs in the playoff prediction look bad, but it doesn't sound like this is serious yet. It seems like he will just miss this one start, but it could be a very bad sign if his shoulder is already bothering him. Hopefully the D-Backs do the right thing and make sure he is 100% before throwing him back on the hill. Obviously if any long term injury happens to Webb the D-Backs playoff chances go down the tubes.
