DC NFL Preview: NFC West

Arizona

2007 Record: 8-8

Offense should be very good this year, since they have finally decided to put Warner as the QB (yea, I hate him too, and his wife with her dyke haircut). The Cardinals probably have the best 1,2 combination at WR in the NFL, and that makes them very dangerous every week. Many people didn't notice that Warner threw for 27 TDs last year, and I actually believe he will have more this season. The question is if they can squeeze another year out of Edge. That I very much question, and I also think this defense is very shaky, so once again this will not be an elite team.

Predicted Record: 7-9


San Francisco 49ers

2007 Record: 5-11

I don't know if anyone has noticed, but this team is just awful. Frank Gore is solid, but he won't be able to carry this team. They have a lot of young guys, but the fact that Alex Smith is a complete bust has sent them back 3-5 years. Now, they have Martz running this offense, and what does he like to do? That's right, throw, and guess what this team can't do...throw. The WRs aren't that bad, but I have no faith J.T. O'Sullivan. They defense is very solid, and will keep them in games. Too bad they will be on the field all game.

Predicted Record: 3-13


Seattle Seahawks

2007 Record: 10-6

Now that they got that waste of space Alexander off the team, this team will be ready to make a jump back into the league of elite NFC teams. Hasselbeck is a stud, and I like all their options at running back. Morris and Jones can carry the load, and can catch passes (something Alexander could never do), while Duckett gives them a great goal line presence. I have some questions about their WRs as they have lost Bobby Engram to injury. Still, I think this team has a good enough defense to hold it together as they make a push towards the playoffs.

Predicted Record: 12-4


St. Louis Rams

2007 Record: 3-13

One of the worst teams in the NFL last year is looking to turn it around this year. Jackson ended his holdout, so that was the best news they could have gotten. The real question is whether this offensive line can protect Bulger. He is a good QB, and they have talent at WY, but if they don't have time to run their routes then they are useless. The defense is nothing special, but Chris Long should help that out some. If the "greatest show on turf" can't come back then this will be another sub par season.

Offense:
I am a big Jeff Garcia fan, but he is just getting too banged up, plus he is really old now (38). He is a warrior, but I am just not that thrilled with what he has around him. Earnest Graham was a nice surprise lkast year, but I don't think he is going to have the same success this year. Galloway continues to surprise me, but he is another health risk, and their other WR Ike "the spike" Hilliard is like 300 years old, so overall I really don't trust this offense, because all they really did in the offseason was add another aging RB in Warrick Dunn.

Defense:
This defense was unreal last year, and were the main reason that they were an above .500 team. The problem is just like the offense they are getting very old, and you have to wonder how long they will be able to hold on before the wheels start coming off. Brooks is amazing, but just like Garcia and Galloway, his best years are behind them. They will still be a very tough team to throw on (ranked #1 last year against the pass), but I have questions about this defense as a whole.

Overall:
I hated what this team did this offseason, as they did not get younger, and I was also not a fan of their draft picks. This is a team that could win 9-10 games again, but I think age/injuries will get the best of them.

Predicted Record: 6-10

Offense:
This offense was a disappointment last year, and it was not because of the passing game. It was because Reggie Bush is not an ever down back, and when Deuce McAllister went down, Bush was pushed into a position he can't handle. Now, if Duece can come back healthy this offense could be in the top 5 in the NFL. Brees is a stud, and a warrior, look for him to be one of the best QBs in the league. Colston has emerged as a great #1 receiver, and everyone knows that I love David Patten. Patten gives them a sure handed receiver while Devery gives them a deep threat. All around one of the most dangerous offenses in all the NFL, but Duece needs to stay healthy.

Defense:
This might be one of the most improved defenses in the NFL. The question is whether or not they will gel together in time to make an impact this season. Dan Morgan and
Jonathan Vilma are a big upgrade over anything they had. Gay is a very solid nickel back, so I expect this team to be ranked a lot higher than 26th, which is what they were ranked last year in total defense.

Overall:
This team could be awesome this year. I hate to say that it comes down to one guy, but it kinda does. Duece has to stay healthy to provide balance on this offense. I think and will, and I expect big things from the Saints this year.

Predicted Record: 11-5

Offense:
Basically the Falcons will be starting from scratch. I love the Ryan pick, and I really believe he will be an elite QB in this league in about 3 years. The problem is they have no offensive line, their WRs are questionable at best, and their best offensive player (Michael "the burner" Turner has to prove he can carry a full work load. Losing Crumpler is a tough loss for Ryan, because we all know that a good pass catching tight end can be a nice safety net for a young QB.

Defense:
The Falcons have some good LBs, but that's about it. Their secondary is going to be horrid, and the defensive line isn't much better. So, I guess since I am being so negative I will point out why you should watch this defense. OLB Michael Boley is one of the most underrated players in the NFL, and I think he is a star in the making.

Overall:
I really liked what the Falcons did with the draft, but this team is still just so far away from being anything resembling good. I feel bad for Ryan, but at least they have some pieces for the future.

Predicted Record: 2-15 (and I'm being nice)

Offense:
The Carolina Panthers have been a disappointment for years now. This year will be no different. Stewart flew under the radar and off peoples draft board’s this past spring. Last Season at Oregon, Stewart rushed for over 1700 yards and 11 touchdowns. He will serve as a great compliment to starter DeAngelo Williams, until Stewart takes over the top spot on the depth chart. Jeff Otah is an upgrade at left tackle and will be the anchor of this unit for years to come. Delhomme is Delhomme, he is a gunslinger. One thing I will say about Delhomme is that he can rally the troops and move the chains when the game is on the line. His primary target, Steve Smith, will miss the first two games of the season for punching his teammate in the grill. Dumb move on his part, and an even dumber move by the Panthers organization. 1 Game would have given Smith plenty of time to reflect on his actions. Smith’s absence leaves the door open for former USC standout, Dwayne Jarrett, a chance to show he can play with big dogs. Will he deliver? Doubtful.

Defense:
Carolina did not allow a single fourth down conversion last season. Unfortunately they struggled to stop teams on first, second, and third down. Julius Peppers is a freak and often draws two to three offensive lineman and can be rendered useless by a strong blocking scheme. The linebackers are aging, and the secondary is developing. The Panthers won’t be a threat to anyone’s post season plans.

Overall:
Carolina has the talent to be a 10-6 team. Injuries, inexperience, and idiot coaching will ultimately cause this team to miss the playoffs again. I am excited to see what Stewart can do at the pro level, but the truth is, New Orleans, Tampa Bay, and possibly Atlanta all have better running backs. The outlook is bleak for Carolina, but hopefully they bring back Vinny T for another whirl.

Offense:
The Vikings have one of the best running back combos in the NFL with Peterson and Taylor. Peterson has an unbelievable rookie season, and some people he could be even better this year if the Vikings can get some kind of passing attack going. Sorry, I don't see that happening, so look for Peterson and Taylor to have their work cut out for them. Maybe I am just negative, but I really think Peterson is going to get hurt this year. He was injury prone in college, and I have a sick feeling it is going to come back to bite him this year. Still, this unit was ranked #1 in rushing last year, and they will be in the top 5 again this season. The problem last year was that their passing attack was ranked 28th in the NFL, and I think they will be in the same area again.

Defense:
This very well could be the best defense in the NFL. They already had two of the best defensive linemen in the NFL in Pat and Kevin Williams, and now they have added Jared Allen. This all adds up to teams having a really hard time running the ball on them, and Allen is known for getting to the QB. I sill have some questions about their DBs, but with a defensive line like that, they will look a lot better than they actually are.

Overall:
This team is really a QB and a WR from being a top team in the NFL. They will be in a lot of tight games, so I could really see them winning anywhere from 8-10 games, but I am going right in the middle just because I don't trust Tarvaris Jackson.

Predicted Record: 9-7

Offense:
There are some questions for the Packers on offense for the 2008 season. The obvious one is how will Aaron Rodgers do, and how will handle the pressure of taking a place of the legend that is Brett Favre? Well if preseason showed us anything, it showed us that he certainly looked like a guy who can handle anything. I really believe in Rodgers. People give Brett Favre too much credit for what he did last year, and forget that it was actually the Packers WRs that made the plays. The WRs led the league in YAC (years after catch), and I would expect more of the same, as long as Rodgers can get them the ball (which I think he will). The other question on this offense is if they can find the same magic in the running game that they found at the end of the 2007 season. Grant is back, but is hurt, and missed much of training camp. I really think we are going to see a lot of Brandon Jackson, but both will struggle early in the season, as most defense will not respect Rodgers. Looks for the RBs to put up better stats as the season goes on.

Defense:
This was one of the best defenses in the NFL last year, and I think we will see them be just as good this year. Charles Woodson (even though I hate him) is one of the best CBs in the league, and Al Harris isn't far behind. A.J. Hawk looked great last year, and should only get better. I am a big fan of this defense and I think they will have a very solid year, and cause even more turnovers this year.

Overall:
I don't think they will win 13 games again, but I do think they will make the playoffs. Minnesota is going to be very good this year, and these two team will battle it out for the NFC North division lead. Oh yea, and I took Rodgers in my fantasy league, because that's how much I believe in this kid.

Offense:
Last year the Lions could pass the ball, but their rushing attack was 2nd worst in the league. Now with Martz gone, the Lions should have a more balanced attack. Even though I think Drew Stanton should be starting, Kitna is a solid QB, and he has plenty of talented WRs around him. Roy Williams is in contract year, so I expect a big year out of him, and Calvin Johnson looked good in his rookie campaign and should be even better this year. So, the only real questions are whether or not this offensive line can protect Kitna, and make some running lanes for Kevin Smith. If the Lions can't get a balanced attack, it will be another year without a winning record.

Defense:
The Lions had the worst total defense in the league last year. I blame some of it on Martz since the offense was always throwing the ball, and the defense couldn't catch their breathe. Still, there is not much talent on this defense. Leigh Bodden is an underrated playmaker, and hopefully the addition of him and Kelly will give the defense the playmaking ability that they lost when they traded away Dre Bly.

Overall:
The Lions have some talent, and in the weak NFC it doesn't take much to make the playoffs. This year the Lions will be right there, but I am still not sold they will make it. Maybe if they just listened to be and started Drew Stanton they would.

Predicted Record: 8-8

Offense:
Finally the Bears have stopped start Rex Grossman, who very well may be the worst QB of all time. The problem is they are not replacing him with much. Orton will not turn the ball over, but he also can't carry this offense. The only chance this team has to score point is with rookie Matt Forte, and Devin Hester. We all know Hester will run a few back on kickoff/punt returns, but he has not been able to prove that he can be a game breaking receiver, and it will be tough to be one with Kyle Orton at QB. I like Forte, but this offensive line isn't very good, and defenses are going to be stacked up against the run. This is going to be another tough year for the Bears moving the ball.

Defense:
The Bears defense is always good, but they are going to be on the field all the time again, since this offense is one of the worst in the league. Last year, the Bears were ranked 28th in the NFL in total defense, and now are having injury problems. Being on the field all the time will kill this defensive unit, and wear out their stars (Urlacher). If the Bears had a good offense this would be a top 10 defense, but since they are terrible I think that they bears will once again be on the bottom 3rd in the NFL for total defense.

Overall:
Nothing good is going to happen for the Bears in 2008. They really made a mistake not draft a QB, and resigning Rex Grossman. The defense is good, but they will not be able to carry this team, so look for them to have one of the worst records in the NFL.

Predicted Record: 3-13

Offense:
The Redskins entire 2008 season is going to be on the shoulders of Jason Campbell. This is the due or die year for him, but I real like this kid and think he is going to come through for the Redskins. Clinton Portis (when healthy) is one of the best running backs in the league, and that should take the pressure off Campbell. The Redskins drafted some nice WRs, but they will probably take a couple years to develop, but they should be able to get some touched behind Santana Moss, and Antwaan Randle El. The most underrated player on this team is Chris Cooley, and even though the Redskins WRs are sub par, having Cooley should let them take advantage of their play action attack.

Defense:
Even with the death of Taylor, the Redskins still have a very good defensive backfield. Springs is slowing down at age 33, but is still one of the best DBs in the league. Smoot is solid, but Landry is an absolute stud. Now that the Redskins have a pass rusher in Jason Taylor I expect the Redskins to force a lot of turnovers, and with London Fletcher at MLB I really think this is a very strong squad.

Overall:
The Redskins play in a tough division, but I think they will have a better season than the Giants and Eagles. Campbell will be very good if these rookie WRs can contribute, and look for Portis to have another great year. The addition of Taylor I think will be the difference with this team. I expect to see this team in the playoffs in 2008.

Predicted Record: 10-6

Offense:
The Eagles will have the same offense they always seem to have (other than the T.O. year), and that is an offense that succeeds on short passes and a lot of Brian Westbrook. Last year Westbrook had a hell of a year rushing for 1,333 yards and 771 yards receiving. The question is the health of McNabb and whether or not e will get any help from his WRs. Kevin Curtis is a very good WR, but he is hurt and they are not sure when they are going to get him back. That puts a lot of pressure on DeSean Jackson, and though I like him a lot, we all know that rookie WRs usually have a tough go of it. SO, it is up to Reggie Brown to pick up the pieces. He has shown signs that he could be very good, but I am sorry I am not a believer, so Westbrook better have a hell of a year again.

Defense:
This defense loves to blitz, but did not get turnovers last year. The Eagles were tied for 30th in the NFL in interceptions, but that should change with Asante Samuel joining the team. He is a gambler and can make some keys plays for this team. Brian Dawkins is still a beast, but he seems to be slowing down a bit. There are not a lot of big names on this squad, but they always seem to put it together and I could see them doing it again in 2008.

Overall:
The Eagles will be solid, but they really miss having more weapons on offense (especially at WR). So, I expect McNabb to have a tough year, and I think this will also be his last in Philly. The defense will keep them in games, but they are in such a tough division that I just don't see them above .500.

As a Pats fan it kills me to write this post, but here we go. Eli Manning went through a lot of shit to get to where he is, and oddly enough, it was when Jeremy Shockey got hurt when he turned it around. Maybe now that the pressure is off, and he has a ring he will reach his potential in stats. Still, I don't see it happening. "Well Dressed" Amani Toomer has had a great career, but he is like 100 years old, and Burress is all banged up already. Mario Manningham has talent, but it will take a while before he can be a starter, so actually I could see this passing attack struggle much like it did during last season when it was ranked 21st overall. So, they will have to rely on their seemingly never ending supply of running backs. Last year they were the 4th best rushing attack int he NFL, and I think they will have the same kind of success. I actually really like Brandon Jacobs and would like to see what he can do if he can stay healthy for a whole season. The loss of Shockey is not that big of a deal, because youngster Kevin Boss looked great in the playoffs and could be a sleeper for the Giants this year.

Defense:
The loss of Strahan/Wilson will hurt the Giants. I think Kenny Philips is going to be a very good player, but he is a rookie and will go through his struggles. Sammy knight is a good player, but not as good as Wilson, so it will be interesting to see if the Giants can overcome it. Even without Strahan the Giants have a very strong defensive line, that will make QBs lives hell.

Overall:
A lot to live up to after their Super Bowl win last year, but they are in the hardest division in the NFC, so I think they are going to have a tough time. Some of the pieces are there, but it gong to take a year or two to get back to the NFC championship or Super Bowl. So my bold prediction is that they won't make the playoffs, and I hope you all believe I didn't just say that because I am a Pats fan.

Predicted Record: 9-7 (just missing the playoffs)

Offense:
Tony Romo is going to put up stats since he has nothing but talent around him. Last year, the Cowboys were ranked 3rd in the NFL in total offense, and this year should be no different. Witten is arguably the best tight end in the game, and Romo seems to be very fond of him. Owens is obviously stud, but needs to watch his off the field issues, and dropped passes. Crayton came into his own last year, and I think he can be a very solid player for this team. The combination of Marion Barber and Felix Jones should be something special to watch. I love the way that Barber plays and if he can stay healthy, he will have a special year. Overall, this offense in the weak NFC is going to dominate.

Defense:
Think all of the talent is on the offense? Think again. DeMarcus Ware is one of the scariest OLBs in the game. Now they have added Zach Thomas to the middle of their defense, and if he can stay healthy, look for them to dominate against the run. The real questions come when talking about thier defensive backs. Pacman is overrated, I don't care what anyone says, and he is going to get exposed unless Roy Williams learns how to defend the pass. Newman is solid, but has been battling injuries all camp, so you have to wonder if this team can get hurt against the pass.

Overall:
No question this team will be in the playoffs, but will Romo choke again? There is also some cause for concern with the personalities in the locker room. Owens/Pacman are nuts, Romo is always in the spotlight because of Jessica Simpson, and their coach is a pushover and probably a year away from being fired. Even with all that they will dominate the NFC.

Predicted Record: 14-2

Offense:
The Chargers have had one of the best offenses for a couple years now, though last year they had a tough time ranking 20th in offense. Expect Philip Rivers to continue to get better, especially with Chris Chambers at WR to help him out. Tomlinson is the best RB in the NFL, but many people worry that he will not be the same without Turner there to back him up. I don't think this will be the case as Hester (one of my favorite college players) is a hell of a short yardage back, and should be able to pick up the slack. Antonio Gates is a stud, and if he can stay healthy this offense should be fine.

Defense:
All around this is a very solid defense. Merriman is a freak (well maybe because of steroids), and he will be running wild again this season. Antonio Cromartie is a hell of a defensive back, and really might be one of the only lock down corners coming into this 3rd year in the NFL. This defense led the league in interceptions and turnover differential. I see them having similar success in 2008.

Overall:
I hate this team with all my heart, because I am a Patriots fan, but you can't deny how good they really are. The question is not whether or not they will make the playoffs, but how far they can actually go. I'm sorry, but I still don't see this team taking down teams like the Patriots, and Colts. They also have a tough schedule in which they play the Patriots, Steelers, and Colts. Still, this is a very dangerous team and if they were in the NFC they would be in the Super Bowl.

Predicted Record: 12-4

Offense:
This could be one of the youngest and more explosive offenses in the NFL. Darren McFadden is a stud, and he will be much like Adrian Peterson of the Vikings, the only problem is that he doesn't have near as good of a offensive line. Fargas proved to be a decent back last year, and he will be a nice change of pace back for McFadden. Finally we will be able to see what JaMarcus Russell can do. We know he has a rocket for an arm, but can he learn the playbook and make good reads against complex NFL defensive schemes. I think he will have an up and down year, as most first year starting QBs usually do. Javon Walker was a terrible signing and has looked terrible in camp. He even wanted to retire and Al Davis convinced him to stay. Ronald Curry is their #2, but I'm sorry he is not going to be able to carry this team.

Defense:
Last year the Raiders defense was 8th against the pass in the NFL, but was also 31st against the rush. The big problem was that they couldn't get off the field since the offense was so terrible. Once again they should be good against the pass, but I still don't see them being able to stop the run. In a division that has Larry Johnson, Tomlinson, and who ever the Broncos want to trot out there, stopping the run is kind of a big deal. Al Davis might want to look into getting some LBs instead of WRs with bad knee problems (Walker).

Overall:
This is a team that is still a couple years away. Al Davis needs to die for this team to really make a push. McFadden will give them some excitement, but Russell is not ready to take this offense and make it real dangerous. Still, at least offensively they seem to be heading in the right direction. The defense will still be on the field a lot, and they can't stop the run, so it looks like this will be another long season for Raider Nation.

Predicted Record: 4-12

Offense:
Brodie Croyle had a terrible 2007 season, and the Chiefs offense was ranked 31st in the NFL. What was shocking was that they were dead last in rushing, yet they have one of the best running backs in the league. Larry Johnson was injury prone last year, and struggled since no team respected Croyle enough to not put 8 to 9 guys in the box to stop the run. The Chiefs have some talent on offense, obviously Larry Johnson is a stud, but they also have Dwayne Bowe and Tony Gonzalez. The question is how long will it take the Chiefs to develop Croyle, and the offensive line.

Defense:
There are some names on this defense, but that doesn't mean that they are good. Patrick Surtain in their starting CB, and he is not what he was when he was with the Dolphins a couple years back. Draft pick Brandon Flowers should help in the defensive backfield but still this is a team that can be passed on easily. The hope is that Glenn Dorsey can stay healthy and dominate like he did while he was at LSU. Derrick Johnson I think is a stud, but still this defense has too many holes to carry this team

Overall:
This is one of the youngest teams in the NFL, and they will play like it. I believe they are heading the the right direction, but are still a couple years away from making any real impact. At least they still play in one of the hardest stadiums to win in the NFL.

Predicted Record: 5-11

Offense:
I love Jay Cutler and really think he is something special. They figured out why he was getting worn out (diabetic), so with that under control I expect this to be a breakout year for him. The problem is that he will be without Brandon Marshall for the first three game due to suspension, and lost Travis Henry, because he is nuts. Still, I think they have enough talent at the WR position to get through the first three games. The Broncos always seem to be able to find some kind of running back, so expect Selvin Young or Andre Hall to have a solid year. Ex-Patriot Daniel Graham has found his way on this team, and he is a very good blocker with decent (at best) hands.

Defense:
This defense was horrible last year letting up 336 yards a game (19th in the NFL). The biggest problem is that they couldn't stop the run. This is where the trade for Dewayne Robertson was so very important. He will help stop the run,and if they can control the run, their defensive backfield should have a field day with Champ Bailey and Dre' Bly.

Overall:
I think this is the year the Broncos finally put the pieces together for the first time since the Elway era. Cutler has a cannon for an arm, and this should be his breakout year, and the defense looks like it could be a lot better with the signing of Robertson. I know it is only one players, but with the CBs that they have on their roster, that may be all they need.

Predicted Record: 10-6

Offense:
Is this the year that Vince Young finally breaks out? Yea, I think so...He finally has a tight end to throw to with the signing of Alge Crumpler. Remember not too long ago when Vick used to only throw to Crumpler? The only difference here is that Vince Young is a more accurate passer, and has better talent around him. Gage and Williams improved throughout the year in 2007, and this year they should be even better with another year under their belts, plus the addition of Justin McCareins. Even with all of that talent, their bread and butter is the running game. Obviously Young can run, but LenDale White had a good year in 2007 running for 1,110 yards. The key for him will be to stay healthy. Even if he doesn't I have heard nothing but great things about Chris Johnson, and from what I am reading don't be shocked if they end up splitting carries for most of the year. I predicted Johnson will get the bulk of the carries by seasons end.

Defense:
Not a lot fo improve on here, they were 5th in the league in total defense last year, and with the addition of Jevon Kearse they look like they could be better. The Titans are great at stopping the run, and are just one of those squads that are very opportunistic, as they were tied for 2nd in the NFL in interception. So much talent on this side of the ball with Kearse, Haynesworth, Bulluck, and Griffin.

Overall:
They have a tough schedule, and are in a tough division, but I expect this team to do great things this year. Vince Young is going to have his breakout year, and I really believe in this running game that they have built, but the thing that is going to put them in the playoffs is this defense. Look for them to be in the top 3 in defense by the end of the year.

Predicted Record: 11-5

DC NFL Preview: Indianapolis Colts

2007 Record: 13-3

Offense:
Expect much of the same out of the Colts this season. Peyton Manning, Reggie Wayne, and Joseph Addai provide enough offense to thwart any AFC south opponent. The Colts finished fifth in total offense last season, and I expect they will finish in that general area this year. This is a deadly offensive unit that makes me uneasy, especially when they’re at the dome. The one question mark on the offense is Marvin Harrison. The future hall of famer had an injury-riddled season last year, and even when he was healthy did not pose a threat for the secondary. While the Colts showed they did not need his services, they are a much better team when Harrison is at his best. Look for Addai and Wayne to each put up big numbers, in addition to Manning. The Colts used their sixth round pick to draft Michigan standout, Mike Hart, while he will probably be slated at third on the depth chart, don’t be surprised if he starts making some noise this season.

Defense:
The Colts offense, for many years, has cast a long shadow over its less then stellar defensive counterpart. This was not the case last season. The Colts D-unit finished 1st in points allowed and 3rd in yards allowed. Much of this success is do to the fearless play of super safety, Bob Sanders. Sanders is the definition of a game-changer. When he is healthy, he is a nightmare for opposing coaches to plan against. The key for the Colts is to keep the oft-injured Sanders on the field as much as possible. They will need all of the 5-8 Sanders they can get if they plan on making their second Superbowl trip in three years.

Overall:
The Colts are scary. Really friggin scary. They are still the biggest threat to the Patriots in the AFC, and are an annual contender for the Lombardi Trophy. I would not be surprised to see these two battle it out in the AFC championship game again, and depending on where it’s played I can see it going either way. Manning is still in his prime, and with Wayne, Harrison, Clark, and Gonzalez to throw to, his options are endless.

Predicted Record: 12-4 (Difficult Schedule prevents them from a 14-2 campaign.)

Offense:
This offense was ranked 2nd in rushing in the NFL, but 17th in passing. The rushing should still be at the top of the league with Maurice Jones-Drew and Fred Taylor in the backfield. The difference this year will be the play of the WRs. The past couple of season the Jags have had big receivers, but no play markers (other than Jimmy Smith). This year they added deep threat Troy Williamson, who I think will finally have a breakout year, since he finally has someone to throw him the ball. Plus, the added Joey Porter who, when he wants to play, is a dominant receiver. I thought the Jags were stupid to get rid of Leftwich, but Garrard has proven me wrong, so I expect alot out of this offense.

Defense:
The loss of Marcus Stroud is something that went under the radar, but they seemed to have filled the hole with the drafting of Derrick Harvey and Quentin Groves. The play of those two youngsters will determine how good this defense will be. I like the combination of Florence and Mathis in the defensive backfield, and I think this defense could actually be better then they were last year (12th in the NFL in total defense).

Overall:
The Jags are in a tough division, but this may be the year that they take it. I really like what they have done with their offense, and if they can keep Fred Taylor healthy they should have at least the same record they did last year.

Predicted Record: 12-4
