"Sexist" IPhone App

"Energy drinks are meant to be edgy and cool, and drunk by young men. So PepsiCo Inc. decided to release an Apple iPhone application for its Amp Energy drink to appeal to guys out on the prowl. Now the snack and beverage giant is facing a storm of criticism for "Amp Up Before You Score." The app, released last Friday, purports to help men pick up any one of 24 types of women, such as the "sorority girl," "cougar," "rebound girl" or "punk rock girl." Users can choose the type of woman they have their eye on, then get coached on facts that might be useful, such as computing a carbon footprint to impress "the treehugger."

Suggested pick-up lines can be risqué. To pick up "the artist," the app recommends the following line: "You know the Mona Lisa has no eyebrows. I wonder what else she shaves (FoxNews)."

You know what pisses me off about this story? If this was for a woman and it was how to hit on some rich guy there would be no problem, but since it is for guys there has to be a hissy fit thrown. It is a big fucking joke women, chill out.

Oh by the way, "You know the Mona Lisa has no eyebrows. I wonder what else she shaves" is a great line.

Troy Polamalu Injury Update

Pittsburgh Steelers All-Pro safety Troy Polamalu sprained the medial collateral ligament in his left knee late in the first half of their 13-10 overtime victory against Tennessee on Thursday night. Coach Mike Tomlin said the injury usually sidelines a player from 3 to 6 weeks.

"They are reading the scans and so forth," Tomlin said. "It is speculation [how long Polamalu will be out] at this point." ESPN

This obviously will hurt, but the Steelers have a ridiculous defense that they will not fall apart. My feeling is that he will be back in 4 weeks with this injury because Troy just can't sit around. Plus I'm sure he has some remedy you can find in the jungle.

Schwarzenegger Wields 2-Foot Knife in Twitter Video

"In the video, which was posted Tuesday, the Republican governor (Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger) is sitting at his desk in the Capitol admiring a 2-foot-long folding knife before looking up to thank followers for their budget-balancing ideas (FoxNews)."

WTF? California is almost at the point of declaring bankruptcy and Schwarzenegger is doing videos with a huge knife making jokes......HILARIOUS. Good for him, at least he is going down with a sense of humor. Not sure I would be real pleased if I lived there, but since I don't this is fucking awesome.

Scal To Miss More Time Than Expected

The news on Brian Scalabrine isn’t encouraging. He said he’s experiencing headaches since he started lifting weights, meaning he almost certainly won’t be making his April 1 return from post-concussion syndrome.

Okay, laugh it up, but I find this just a tad discouraging. The Celtics really need all the bench help they can get as they transcend into the Playoffs. Scal provides pretty good defense, and another person who can potentially hit an open jump shot from time to time not to mention a big body who can dish out fouls. As much as it pains me to say it, I hope Scal will be ready to contribute come Playoff time.

Introducing The New Rodney King: Donald Driver's Father

"Green Bay - Marvin Driver Jr., the father of Green Bay Packers receiver Donald Driver, was in a Houston hospital on Wednesday with injuries his family said were inflicted by two police officers.
The Driver family and Houston Police Department have differing stories. Both, however, agree that Marvin Driver was arrested during a traffic stop because of outstanding traffic warrants at 1:30 a.m. Monday and was set to be taken to jail.
The family insists Mr. Driver "never made it to jail" and was picked up by paramedics after he was found lying on the ground bloody and unconscious.
Marvin Driver is in the hospital and can't speak because of some bleeding on his brain from blunt force trauma, the family said.
"Mr. Driver Jr. is able to communicate through notes where he has described the torture he went through at the hand of HPD officers," according to the family's statement.
Marvin Driver's family showed reporters photos of Driver in his hospital bed with breathing tubes in his mouth. The family also showed the notes by Driver that alleged that he knew at least one of the officers and that they took him behind a gas station, where they beat him and forced an object down his throat." God damn. But I thought this stuff doesn't happen now that Obama's president. This is unfortunate for Donald figuring he has a tough match up verse the Saints on monday. We hope he recovers alright and the cops that did this too him get raped.

DC Exclusive - Pats in the Market for Quarterbacks

Future Super Bowl MVP, Hall of Famer, Patriots all time leading passer

This is as close to breaking news as it gets around here. Be forwarned, the sources are sketchy at best (although I swear to Christ this was not scooped from another blog). I sincerely hope none of it is true.

First, the facts (as told to me but someone who claimed they were indeed factual) - Tom Brady underwent a third knee operation at the same LA hospital that butchered/performed the first two. After going in a second time to clean and test the wound, the infection persisted causing the doctors to go back in for a third time.

As reported here on Tuesday, any infection posed the very serious risk of destroying Brady's 2009 hopes and possibly any hopes beyond that. This was prior to learning of the 3rd operation. The fact that a 3rd operation followed up the 2nd so closely leads one to believe that things are not as they should be. That this infection is spreading to other parts of the knee. Let's not forget that this type of post surgery infectious reaction is highly uncommon. Less than 0.50% of all ACL patients have had similar problems.

So far, the Patriots have remained predictably tight on this situation. No real surprise there given they never report any injury news. However, my sources claim that the team is more protective than ever of this injury because they do not want to lose leverage in any trade negotiations. There is a very real, very desperate feeling in Foxboro that Brady might never play again. It is there job to prepare for the worst case scenario and I think we can all agree that this would be worst case.

Regardless of how glass full you choose to look at life, this is something that has to be discussed. Best case scenario remains a full recovery and a return to MVP form in 2009. I think the more likely scenario is a delayed recovery with a partial 2009 campaign before returning in 2010 100% healthy. What are the Pats to do in the meantime? Can the AFC offensive player of the week continue to keep the team in games this season and into next if necessary? Not if the defense continues to play old and slow. In my humble opinion, Matt Cassel is not the answer.

At the same time, I don't see too many backups that could come in here and do a better job (outside of Brady Quinn of course). Perhaps relying on another team's sloppy seconds isn't the best plan of action. My solution? Draft. Specifically, Curtis Painter, Senior stud QB out of Purdue. Will not be the first QB taken and should slip to late 1st or maybe even early 2nd round. This guy could cover all of our bases. If the best case proves true and Brady returns to form ahead of schedule, great. We can shop Cassel for some future draft picks and let Painter become the understudy. If Tom never takes another snap, Painter is the type of guy who can pick this offense up and carry them back to the Super Bowl and look just as good while doing it.

End of the day, Brady is getting old anyways. What's he 31 now? It's time to start planning seriously for the future anyways so if nothing else, bullshit injury speculation forces the team to have some very necessary conversations.

Brady Out For Season

Yahoo Sports Michael Silver is reporting that Tom Brady suffered a torn ACL and will miss the remainder of the 2008 season. It's difficult to even wrap my mind around the idea of someone else playing quarterback for the Pats. Needless to say, this injury will deeply impact the fate of the Patriots for the 2008 season. This will undoubtedly be the most talked about story for this coming week. Rumors have already begun to swirl about the hit being dirty and cheap. I have seen the replay, and have determined that injuries happen, this play was no dirtier than Carson Palmer's injury two seasons ago.
It won't do any good for Pats fans to dwell on the obvious negatives of this situation. The players know that the only way to get through the season will be to back new quarterback, Matt Cassel. Now, we all know the story of Matt Cassel, the lifelong back up who never got a chance. The talking heads on ESPN have already began comparing Cassel's journey to Brady's. Let's get one thing straight right now, Tom Brady was the league MVP, he raised the bar statistically and threw an unprecedented 50 touchdown passes. Matt Cassel is not Tom Brady. He is not the "new" Tom Brady. What Matt Cassel is, is a serviceable backup quarterback. This guy hasn't started since high school. I don't want to downplay Cassel or dog on him in anyway, but he hasn't done much to impress me thus far. With that being said, he has the potential to lead the Patriots to a 12-4 season. The cupcake schedule will aid Cassel through his first professional campaign. Cassel already seems to have developed a rapport with Randy Moss, which will be crucial for this season to be a success. Cassel has been understudy to 2 outstanding quartberbacks, let's hope he learned a few things along the way. While his preseason struggles appear to be a thing of the past, Cassel will most likely be on a tight leash his first couple weeks until center.
For all Pats fans, hang in there. This season is not lost, and can still be salvaged. While losing Brady is a devastating blow, I believe in Matt Cassel. He can hold down the fort while the golden boy recovers.
