Moyer Lashes Out At Phillies

"Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Jamie Moyer lashed out at team management Tuesday, saying he felt "misled" by the club and "disheartened" by its decision to demote him to the bullpen. Moyer was dropped from the rotation to make room for Pedro Martinez, set to return to the majors when he starts Wednesday night against the Chicago Cubs.

"I feel a little disheartened," the 22-year veteran said. "I feel a little bit like I've been misled. I feel like I've played this game long enough that the respect factor should be there."

"Ultimately, I'm a little disheartened because I know this past winter, when I was negotiating with the Phillies, this was a sore thumb, if you will, about this potentially happening," Moyer said. "You can't promise anything in this game, but I really felt that Ruben kind of parlayed to me that this type of situation would not happen (ESPN)."

Moyer has been a hell of a player for a long time, but he just isn't getting it done this season with a 10-9 record and a 5.47 ERA. He signed a 2 year contract in the offseason, and he thinks there was an understanding that something like this would not happen, but sorry Moyer, you can't have an ERA like that an expect to stay. It is not like the Phillies didn't give him every shot to come through this season, and it is obvious Moyer might be at the end of the road. With Pedro now on the team, and adding Lee a couple weeks back Moyer just doesn't have a spot right now.

Pedro's First Start Will Be Wednesday Against Cubs

"Pedro Martinez will make his return to the majors Wednesday when he starts for Philadelphia against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said Monday that the three-time Cy Young winner will come off the 15-day disabled list. He finished up last season with the New York Mets. To make room for Martinez in the rotation, the NL East-leading Phillies are sending 46-year-old left-hander Jamie Moyer to the bullpen. Moyer leads the staff in wins with a 10-9 record, but his 5.47 ERA is third-worst in the majors. The 37-year-old Martinez went 1-1 with a 5.11 ERA in three rehab starts in the minors (Sportsline)."

I don't know how much Pedro has left in the tank, but he has to do better then Moyer. Pedro was on his game in his last rehab start, and I think he will be solid for the Phillies, who look like by far the most dangerous team in the NL.

Phillies Resign Moyer

The Phillies signed 46 year old Moyer to a 2 year deal. No word on how much it is for, but I actually like this move. Moyer eats up innings, and doesn't really walk anyone. He will have games when he gets crushed, but you know what you are going to get from Moyer, which is saying a lot compared to most of the pitchers in the MLB. The Phillies also signed Chan Ho Park to a 1 year deal. He will be used as a spot starter, but to be honest he doesn't deserve a spot on any team, because he is just terrible. Phillies will have a hard time controling that division with all the bullpen help the Mets got, but I still think they are a better all around team.

Phillies Strong at Home

Last night the game may have started about 2 hours late, but you couldnt tell by the way the Phillies played. John Kruk said on baseball tonight that the delayed start would hurt Rays starter Matt Garza and help Jamie Moyer, well the almighty Kruk was correct sir. From jump street garza didnt have is best stuff, and Moyer finally looked like a 16 game winner in the post season.

the offense was much more encouraging for the Phillies last night as well, even though it was primarily done by way of the long ball. but whatever, they put enough runs up to win and thats all that matters. I really cant say enough about Jamie Moyer, this guy continues to suprise me. i was nervous about him more than any other Philly starter, but he put my fears to rest. Chase continued to hit well, and him and Ryan Howard hit back to back bombs.

Now what makes me nervous are these motherfucking umpires. They made another bad call last night, once again, that went against the Phillies. jamie Moyer was robbed from making the best defensive play of the series. And what do you know, the rays would score a run as an eventual result of this....and it would lead to them tieing the game down the stretch. These guys are consitently making bad calls, we are all human, but they have to at least go both ways. i will admit Moyer stretched the strikezone a bit, but thats what he usually does.

I feel great doing into tonight, I feel that the Phils have a certain swagger about them and their confidence has to be riding high. If they win tonight, they will have hamels on the mound for the possible clintcher. Gigiddy

TB Rays Tie the Series

Last night sucked. Instead of drinking merily with some cronies, i was forced to drink slowly and heavily by the Phillies. Yes the Rays won, but more than anything, the Phillies lost. You have to tip your hats to the Rays, they are doing something that Philly cant seem to figure out--scoring people who are in scoring position. Shields pitched well, 3 different times he had a man on third with less than 2 outs...no one ever scored.

Ryan Howard "broke out" of his slump last night but it doesnt really mean much if gets hits with no one on base. And for some reason Carlos Ruiz decided that hes just gonna be the man this World Series. Well i appretiate it Carlos, now whatever your drinkin, let Jimmy and Burrell get a motherfuckin sip.

The Rays are ball players, they're young, but their ball players. they scored runs last night in small ball fashion; two of their runs came on infield groundballs...I respect that. Someone Longoria and Pena are 0-for in the series, but something tells me they were just warming up for Jamie "I'm way too fucking old" Moyer to take the mound.

I'm not very happy today. The teams flew back to Philly late last night, and need to take a day to gather themselves. I am probably going up to Philadelphia tomorrow night to tailgate at the complex and then head to bar to be with local hooligans. i also plan to plaster the last of my DC stickers in the ghetto that is South Philly. for now I'm going to the movies to cool myself. Expect a movie review of 'Pride And Glory' this afternoon.

Dodgers take Game 3

Everyone knew neither series would be a sweep, and the Dodgers confirmed this by taking game 3 last night. Phillies starter Jamie Moyer was lifted after and inning and a third giving up 5 runs. Jamie has gotten shelled each of his post season starts which finally proves that he might actually be 45 years old.

The game got a little heated when Russel Martin was dinked and then Shane Victorino got some high head head level. After he had some words with Russel Martin and the pitcher, he grounded out to first and still had some things to say. The benches cleared and both sides were warned. I dont have a problem with this kind of stuff, and there really isnt any blame on either side, its part of the game. After this incident the game continued with no other issue...although Martin was hit again by a chad durbin changeup.

So far all year the home team has won in this matchup, and it simply cant go on like this. Next up Joe Blanton faces Lowe on short rest. This will be a very telling game for both squads.
