Josh McDaniels Breach of Trust?

Broncos Quarterback Jay Cutler met with new head coach Josh McDaniels over the weekend to address the recent trade controversy whirling around the Denver QB to no apparent resolve. As we all know Cutler believes McDaniels misled him regarding possible trade proposals, many of which pointed directly to stand out New England fill-in Matt Cassel. McDaniels admits that he listened to teams inquirements about Cutler, yet laid claim that he would for any player on his roster. Cutler has already been rumored to have put a couple of his Denver area homes and properties on the market amidst the controversy, and seems to be convinced a trade is both neccessary and looming.

Cutler feels like he can't trust McDaniels, and it seems like their relationship has been doomed from the start. Cutler didn't show up for McDaniels first team meeting Monday, displaying a blatant disrespect of his new coach. I am definetly not alone in thinking like Cutler is overreacting a bit on this one? Demanding a trade? Of course teams would be willing to trade for a half descent starting QB, but Cutler obviously does not apparently adapt well to change. Even with the whole possible Matt Cassel controversy, Cutler refuses to stand up and prove why he should be the starting guy, and is now ready to denounce his time all together in Denver. With the team refusing to take any sort of draft pick compensation for Cutler, it is apparent the Broncos may at least give a last ditch attempt to work out their differences, or apparently see what other teams are willing to offer.

Sage Rosenfels To Vikings?

"The Texans and Vikings are close to a trade that would send quarterback Sage Rosenfels to Minnesota, possibly for a fourth-round draft pick, the Houston Chronicle reported Monday (ESPN)."

We all know that the Vikings need a QB, but there is no way that Sage Rosenfels is the answer. In Sage's limited playing time he has shown a tendency to turn the ball over, and has never really shown me anything that would make me think he can be a starter for any NFL team. The Vikings need someone that can control the game, because their team is based around their defense and running game. Sage is not the answer, and if the Vikings are smart they will keep their 4th round pick, and look elsewhere.

Trade Idea Taking Flight?

"Unimpressed by the Kansas City Chiefs' hiring of Scott Pioli as the new general manager, tight end Tony Gonzalez still wants a trade (Yahoo)."

Yesterday I put the idea out there of the Patriots trading Cassel to the Chiefs for a 2nd (or 3rd) round pick and Tony Gonzalez. Seems to be making even more sense today, since Tony wants a chance at a Super Bowl, and knows that he has no shot while playing for KC.

"It seems like we're rebuilding anyway, and I don't want to do that. I don't know that I want to do that any more than I already have been (ESPN)."

The Patriots may be able to find a better deal, but I am not as sold as many of our readers that there are going to be teams willing to give up 1st round picks for Cassel. Still, the chance of this happening is small, as there are a lot of teams interested in Tony Gonzalez's services including the Giants, Packers, and Bills. The Packers have already come out and offered a 3rd round pick for him. We'll keep you posted.

A Cassel Trade Thought...

There will be endless rumors about where Cassel might go, but there is one that stuck out to me... Cassel to KC for Tony Gonzalez and a 2nd (or 3rd) round pick. There are very few player for player deals that work out, but I think this one makes sense for both sides. The Patriots need depth on defense, so adding another pick is a must. The Chiefs obviously have the Pioli connection to Cassel, and they would only be giving up a 2nd (or 3rd) round pick, plus Tony Gonzalez who is at the tail end of his career. The Patriots would love to add a guy like Gonzalez to their offense, since Watson can never stay healthy, and it will give Brady just one more target on an already amazing offense. If the Pats were able to unload Cassel's franchise tag they would have plenty of room to have Gonzalez, and sign all of their draft picks.

Just a thought, but I really think this makes a lot of sense...
