Titans Claim Moss, Bills Claim Merriman

The Tennessee Titans were the only team to claim Randy Moss of the waivers, and you know what, it could work beautifully. Randy Moss is Randy Moss, that won't change, but will change is that order will be restored in Tennessee. Moss yelled at a guy, didn't fit in in Minnesota, blah, blah, blah, who cares.

Randy Moss is the perfect receiver to help Chris Johnson. With CJ not putting up CJ numbers Moss will do nothing but help everyone around him. Neither Vince Young nor Kerry Collins has the arm strength of a Brett Favre or Tom Brady, but that's OK, Moss demands a couple people focusing on him rather than the runningback. Also, with Kenny Britt out a little bit Moss can void his role until he comes back. Unlike the Vikings, I believe he will work out well in Tennessee.

The Buffalo Bills claimed Shawne Merriman. Merriman had previously been regarded as one of the NFL's most feared players. He's a three-time Pro Bowl selection. In 60 career games, he has 43½ sacks -- but only four in his past three seasons.

Chad Ochocinco wants to fight Shawne Merriman for real

Ochocinco has came out and not been descret about his dislike for Shawne Merriman recent. Here are some of the quotes in no chronological order:

"I think back when we played last time," he continued. "I can't remember. I don't know. You know what, I think I copied his dance after I scored, and I think it pissed him off." -Ochocinco

My Take:

I love Ochocinco with a passion. I think his antics are wildly hilarious and it's great for the game. Other than the many times his mouth and some of his actions have gotten him in trouble with his team, his lively flavor and attitude is fun to watch. The man certainly works extremely hard and has elite talent....but not....as a fighter against Shawne "steroids" Merriman. Did everyone just overlook and forget that it was only 2 seasons ago that Merriman was suspended four games for taking performance enhancing drugs? *This whole only four games thing in the NFL blows my mind but I'll save that article for the next player that gets caught and no one cares. Anyway, back to the fight...is Ochocinco seeing the size of Merriman? Merriman is a fucking monster to put it boldly and frank. Like I said I'll be one of the first people to defend Ochocinco's actions but if this is real, I'm genuinely concern for the injury that would keep Ochocinco off the field come the hopeful playoff run. Being as all these quotes came before Chris Henry's death this morning, I don't see Ochocinco or Merriman even caring about one another. Sure they will hit each other a few times during the game but beyond that, they're going to play and leave.

Ocho...if you read this...here is your touchdown celebration sunday if you want to keep stickin' it to that "lights out" bullshit (obviously it comes with a fine almost equal to my yearly salary but I respect it every time):

Boy, NFL Players Have Good Lives

"Sources close to the story [say] jealousy played a role in the early morning altercation. The sources [claim] that witnesses at Merriman's home said the three-time Pro Bowl linebacker went to his bedroom with two women. Sources said Tequila walked into the room and Merriman asked her to join them. However, the sources said Tequila reacted angrily and threatened to have sex with a member of Merriman's entourage. According to sources, Tequila was intoxicated, and she got naked and attempted to leave the house."

I wish I could casually have three girls in my bed on a random night, however DC Writers only get two. But how ridiculous is this story if this is right. Tila Tequila was just walking around naked trying to fuck. If I was a member of Merriman's entourage and I heard her yelling that I would sprint to find her. Shawne Merriman Arrested

"Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman was arrested early Sunday morning for allegedly choking and restraining his girlfriend as she tried to leave his Poway home, the Sheriff's Department said. His girlfriend, Tila Tequila, 27, signed a citizen's arrest warrant, charging Merriman with battery and false imprisonment. Deputies responded to a disturbance call about 3:45 a.m. at Merriman's home near the intersection of Sage Crest Drive and Oak Knoll Drive." (San Diego Union Tribune)

What's with guys abusing their super hot girlfriends? And what are the odds that Tila Tequila stays with this roided up, overrated, douchebag. And he's a douchebag even if this accusation turns out to be false.

Chargers' GM Talks with LT

"The ball was in A.J. Smith's court; this time, he went directly to LaDainian Tomlinson. Smith, the San Diego Chargers' general manager, called the star running back and had a 10-minute conversation Monday night in an effort to close the chapter on what had been a week long verbal saga (ESPN)."

This all started because there were rumors going around that the Chargers were going to cut LT, since they were happy with the way Darren Sproles played at the end of the season, and they could really use the cap space. The rumors got out of control and players started to weigh in...

"That [stuff] doesn't help bring a Super Bowl to San Diego ... And that [stuff] needs to stop, period. It needs to stop now. We're a team, upstairs and downstairs, no matter what," Merriman added, according to the newspaper. "This is a business, but if you address the situation publicly now you have turmoil. They're going to make decisions upstairs. But we've got to be a team (ESPN)."

Merriman is 100% right. The Chargers need to either cut/trade LT right now, or clear the air with him so he knows he is coming back. The better option is to cut or trade him. His stats have been declining year to year..

He his obviously still a very good player, but he is just not worth the cap hit that he costs the Chargers every year ($8.8 million). He also never seems to be able to play when it counts. In a salary cap league you sometimes have to make tough decisions like this, and they are just better off having Sproles be their guy, and spending that $8.8 million improving the rest of their team. The Chargers' GM has not handled this in the right way, but if he is going to keep LT, then this 10 min phone call is a step in the right direction.

Shawne Merriman's Season Over

Shawne Merriman is now out for the year from the torn knee ligament that have been bothering him. Merriman was trying to play through the pain, but after week 1 felt that it was too much to handle and called it a season, so that he can have the surgery to fix the injury. The odd thing about all this, is that he actually had this injury before the playoffs last year. So, the Chargers have to be a little upset that he didn't have this taken care of during the offseason, even if it would have cost him a couple weeks this year. This will really hurt the Chargers, who don't really need anymore bad news after losing the first game of the season.

Merriman To Play Through Pain

The San Diego Union Tribune is reporting that Shawne Merriman will play through his knee pain this year. It was reported a couple days ago that Merriman has two torn ligaments in his knee, and that his doctors were not sure if he was going to be able to play. That was till today, when he came out and publicly states that he would play the 2008 season for the Chargers. Personally, I hate this guy, and his stupid little dance every time he does something good (same reason I hate Seau), but I have to admit that this is very badass. I know they are going to have him on all kinds of drugs and shots so that he can play through the pain, but this guy is only 24 years old. He really could have (and maybe should have) sat out the season, and came back strong in 2009. I don't know if it is the right decision, but maybe Merriman knows that the window for the Chargers to win a championship is closing, and the Chargers will need him to have any shot.
