Steve Smith Talks About Trade Demand

Receiver Steve Smith says he hasn't demanded a trade but has asked the Carolina Panthers to be "in a competitive situation." Smith contacted Pro Football Weekly on Tuesday so he could clear up reports that he wanted out of Carolina.

"These people that keep writing these articles, none of them have even spoken to me. What I want to do is be classy and not tip my cards, be respectful to the [Panthers] organization," he told the publication. It's not me saying, 'Yes, I want a trade.' It's still a family matter, and when my family feels it's the appropriate time, our actions will show how we feel (ESPN)."

Let me translate this for you. "I want out of Carolina, but I am trying to show that I am not as big of a douchebag that people think I am". That's really all this is. I don't think there is anyway Steve Smith plays for Carolina, and if you're Carolina you shouldn't want him back. He is a contantly pissed off WR that snaps a moments notice, and you have a rookie QB that really doesn't need his BS. Sure, it would be nice for Newton to have a guy like him to throw to, but it's really time for this team to move on and let Newton to be the leader of this team, since they used a #1 pick on him and I just don't see Steve Smith helping that cause.

Giants Lose Steve Smith For Year

"The New York Giants have suffered yet another massive blow as wide receiver Steve Smith will undergo season-ending knee surgery. Smith underwent an MRI to his left knee on Tuesday and the team announced he suffered an articular cartilage injury to his knee when he was awkwardly tackled from behind in the Vikings game on Monday (ESPN)."

Smith had somewhat a down year after breaking out in 2009 in which he had 1220 receiving yards, and 7 TDs. In 2010 he only had 529 receiving yards and 3 TDs. Still, with Mario Manningham already banged up with a hip injury this could hurt the Giants. I think they could be OK, as they have decently deep WR core, and a very solid running game, but with Eli throwing picks every game maybe this will be the final piece to sink their season.

I have to admit I hate Steve Smith, and not just this one, but the one of Carolina too, because DP thought it would be funny to have not one, but two Steve Smith's, and as you might have guessed it didn't work out too well.

Moss Is Gone, What Now?

I know, a lot of Moss posts today, but fuck it.

I started to think what the Patriots might do now they Moss is gone. They have a bye week, so there is a good amount of time to pull of another trade. I will caution that most likely the Patriots will do nothing, because that's their thing, but if they were to do something here are some options.

- Vincent Jackson - The Changers holdout was rumored to be going to the Vikings, but now that they are out of the way the Patriots could make a move, and they certainly have the draft picks to do it.

- Steve Smith - The Panthers are going nowhere fast, and he has been a problem for them. I would think he could be sold off for cheap (3rd/4th rounder).

- Lee Evans - Bills aren't going anywhere, and when was the last time Evans did something? Been awhile, but he also hasn't had anyone to throw him the ball. Could buy low here.

Anyways, I just figured there are going to be a shitload of rumors going around over the next week, and I wouldn't be surprised if these 3 names pop up a lot.

Steve Smith Injured

Steve Smith had an unfortunate accident breaking his arm playing flag football and is said to only miss training camp with the injury. Now everyone is saying Steve Smith was irresponsible for playing a game like flag football in the off season.

I wrote this for a couple reasons, the first is due to him missing time is going to kill necessary time he will need with Jimmy Clausen. Jimmy Clausen fell to Carolina in the second round and him playing with his best wide receiver would have been real helpful if he is going to play this year at all. The second is that the injury is unfortunate and sucks, but it was not irresponsible playing flag football. These guys can't live in a box every day. Its not like he was riding a motorcycle or water skiing.

Also, there are too many Steve Smiths in the world.

Steve Smith To IR

"Panthers WR Steve Smith will go on injured reserve this week after undergoing surgery to repair a broken left forearm suffered in Week 16 at the Giants. "He's a pretty tough individual," said coach John Fox. "The ball was taken more inside to the safety, and I think he got his arm up to (brace himself) for protection. It looked like he took the blow with the helmet. His finish on the touchdown was pretty unbelievable considering that he had a broken radius (CBSSports)."

Carolina is out of the playoff picture, so this doesn't matter much, yet I think Carolina needs to sit back and think about their future. Is Moore their QB of the future? I don't think so, but they seem to want him starting next year. I think Carolina needs a complete overhaul. They could turn this around in a couple of years, but I think the first they need to get rid of some guys. First, trade Peppers for some nice draft picks. This would allow them to quickly restock some talent, and I wouldn't stop there. I would trade Steve Smith too. He still has a lot of value. The Panthers have had a lot of problems with him, and I think it would be best if they both got a fresh start. Then of course I would cut Jake Delhomme, to free up some cap space down the road.

Steve Smith To Miss At Least 2 Weeks

"Carolina Panthers receiver Steve Smith was carted to the locker room with a right shoulder injury Monday night, the latest blow to another key player in an injury-filled start to training camp. X-rays were negative, but general manager Marty Hurney was uncertain how long the four-time Pro Bowl receiver will be out. However, Smith's agent, Derrick Fox, said Monday that Smith would likely miss at least two weeks and was considering an MRI exam on the injury, according to the Charlotte Observer. "Steve has a high threshold of pain, and he's in a lot of pain, so something's off-kilter," Fox said, according to the report. Smith was injured when he got tangled with cornerback Chris Gamble early in the evening workout, held without pads (ESPN)."

I saw the video of this and it looked like Smith was in a lot of pain. Carolina offense will not do anything without him on the field, so they better hope he can get back to 100% ASAP, but it doesn't sound overly serious, and he knows the offense, so overall I don't expect this to hurt them too bad.

This Just In: Don't Draft Steve Smith

Steve Smtih who is already suspended for the first two games of the regular season for punching a teammate, is now out with a concussion. During Carolina's first exhibition game Steve Smith made a nice 19 yard catch, but then was blasted by a defender. He continued to play, but is not suffering the affects of that hit. I know a lot of people have fantasy draft coming up, but I wouldn't touch this guy till at least the 6th or 7th round. He seems like he has a dark cloud over him, and will have a terrible year.

Panthers Suspend Smith

Steve Smith has been suspended for 2 regular season came after punching teammate Ken Lucas in the face during practice. Smith is known for his temper, and apparently the Panthers have had enough of his antics. I am surprised they suspended him for two games. I thought maybe one, but now this could be a big blow to a team that is trying to right the ship after a disappointing 2007 season. Since Steve Smith is suspended for the first two game he will lose $205,000. I know that is very little compared to his contract, but is still a sizable loss, but I guess it is fitting for breaking Ken Lucas' nose.

Random NFL Moves: Cuts and Fights

Remember this guy? This is Mike Williams, the great USC player that left school early, then when he realized the NCAA wouldn't let him in the NFL, he tried to get back to USC and they didn't let him back there either. Then he got drafted 10th in 2004 by the Detroit Lions, then cut him. Then he got signed by the Raiders, they cut him. Most recently got signed by the Titans, they cut him.

You kind of have to feel bad for this guy if the NCAA didn't screw him over, I really believe he would have been a lot better.

Also Cincinnati released second year runningback Kenny Irons. I loved Iron for Auburn and thought he was the next big thing. I believe he still can be successful if he latches on to the right team.

Steve Smith didn't get cut, but was sent home after punching cornerback Ken Lucas in the face needing Lucas to be carted off the field. No reason to flip out about this, there are always fights in camp and because it was a star in Smith, nothing will happen.
