We'll only be running one of these to cover the games for today and tomorrow. Lot's to get through.
What You Missed:
Great games all around yesterday. At one point, FSU/GT and OSU/Wisco were on ESPN and ESPN 2 simultaneously, one was tied, the other saw GT with a one point edge and both had less than 30 seconds to go. That kind of excitement doesn't exist in any other month.
In the ACC, the semis are set. Duke will take on Maryland while UNC gets FSU. I'm seeing a UNC/Duke final with UNC winning for the third straight time. Final on Sunday.
Over in the Big East, 'Cuse thought it would be fun to play their seventh OT period in 2 days instead of just finishing West Virginia off in regulation. They will take on Louisville in the final tonight. 9:00PM, don't miss it. The winner is guaranteed a first or second round defeat in the NCAA Tourney.
One auto bid handed out yesterday - American took down Holy Cross in the Patriot League. 2nd straight tourney appearance for American.
What You Won't Want to Miss Today and Tomorrow:
Lots of finals, lots of auto bids. On the whole, most of these bids will go to teams that were making the Dance anyways. There are some spoilers lingering. If Duquesne beats Temple, does the A10 get 4 bids or do we say bye-bye to Temple? Baylor has a chance to win the Big 12 ending another bubble team's run.
Memphis is about to seal of the C-USA title which is a joke, they she be forced to find a new league instead of playing against glorified prep school kids.
Pay attention to the Mountain West final with San Diego State and Utah. SD is on the bubble. If they win or get an at-large, watch out for them next week. I could see a Sweet 16 run from them.
Finally, the Big Ten game between OSU and Michigan State should be really good. OSU stepped it up defensively yesterday and they should hang with the Spartans. I'm not sold on this MSU team. They don't have the talent of teams in past years. Fuck, I'm not sold on the Big Ten in general yet there is a decent chance they could get 5 or 6 teams in.

The Night That Was and The Day That Is

What You Missed:
There were no auto bids handed out last night. Plenty of bubbles were popped but no new entrants.
Unreal day in the BET. It all started with Marquette’s amazing comeback, rallying from 16 down in the 2nd half to take the lead over 4 seed Villanova. Down 1 with less than 10 seconds to play, Nova relied on some nifty passing and a defensive breakdown by Marquette to pull off the buzzer beating lay up.
West Virginia beat 2 seeded Pittsburg pretty handily. Pitt never really looked in sync during the second half. It was almost as if Pitt had read the stats and knows the fail ratio of teams that win the BET.
We all know what happened in the late game. No need to rehash.
Other conferences – URI chocked their tourney chances away for good. Seems like an annual thing. Oklahoma is down and out of the Big 12. With a healthy Blake Griffin, the Sooners still couldn’t get the job done against instate rival OK St. Fun game to watch though. The Big 12 is wide open now with both Kansas and Oklahoma gone.
Who are the 1 seeds now? Oklahoma kissed their chances good-bye. I still like UConn, Pitt, Louisville and the winner of the ACC (Duke). Just kidding, I think so long as UNC makes the final, they are the final 1 seed. I’m not buying Memphis, sorry.
What You Will Not Want To Miss Today:
Semifinals of the BET. I like this WV/Syracuse game almost as much as the Louisville/Nova tilt. I believe it was Bob that said the UConn game wasn’t must see action because Syracuse blows…or something to that affect. I wonder if anyone is thinking the same for tonight’s game.
Duke will take on BC in the late ACC game. Va Tech still fighting for a bid will take on UNC in just under an hour. Maryland neeeeeeeds a win against Wake at 7:00PM tonight so that one should be interesting.
The Patriot League final is today, Holy Cross looking to sew up another NCAA Tourney bid. 4:30 start time on that one.

The Night That Was and The Day That Is
What You Missed:
There were two auto bids handed out last night. Both were down to the wire, edge of your seat thrillers.
Robert Morris has not been to the Big Dance since 1992. They were attempting to win the NEC championship on their home court against favorite Mount St. Mary’s. The game was played within a 10 point range all night and it took an awkward looking jumper with 2.5 seconds left to seal the deal.
Portland State won the Big Sky in similar fashion, relying on a dunk with 3.5 seconds left to defeat Montana State. These small conference games are the balls. No question about it, they are 12 times more exciting than any of the majors.
Nothing too out of the ordinary in the BET yesterday. The ‘Cuse looked dominant against Seton Hall, especially late. The A10 Tourney saw Dukes roll over UMass. This will be a tough game for Rhody. Duquesne can score and it took a buzzer beater in OT for the Rams to get past them in their last meeting.
Texas Tech, who won 3 games all year in the Big 12, defeated Texas A&M last night. A&M apparently has a Dance ticket all sewn up, high RPI, high SOS, etc… But if they cannot beat a hapless Tech team, do they really belong?
What You Will Not Want To Miss Today:
Day Three of the BET will kick off at high noon with Providence and Louisville. PC is playing for their tourney lives, a win still might not be enough. I love the rest of the games on the schedule today. Syracuse/UConn is must see action. Villanova/Marquette, ain’t half bad either.
The ACC, SEC and Big Ten all kick off today. The top seeds won’t be in action until tomorrow, look for the seeds to roll today. I’m sure we’ll have an upset or two, there always is.
URI will take on Duquesne at 6:30 tonight. Good luck finding it on TV.

Our friends at Rush The Court posted this gem last night/this morning. If you weren't excited for March enough already, this should do the trick. Gives me goosebumps everytime.

The Night That Was and The Day That Is
The NCAA Tournament is the most action packed, intense championship process of them all. Better than any of the pro sports and far better than the college football bowl system. The only thing that comes close to rivaling the Tourney is the individual conference tournaments. The week before the Big Dance starts is the second most exciting week on the sports calendar.
That being said, it is time to wrap up what went down last night and what you should look forward to today. We will try to keep this going from now through Selection Sunday.
What You Missed:
There were a few auto bids handed out last night and at least one did not go as planned.
Western Kentucky will look to match last year’s impressive tourney run after winning the Sun Belt. This is a team that made a Sweet 16 run last year and they certainly have the talent to get out of the first weekend this year. I’ll take them in a round 1 win before bowing out in round 2.
North Dakota State in there first year of D-1 eligibility will be heading to the field of 65 after beating Oakland in the Summit League finale last night. This game was easily the game of the day. Oakland opened up a sizeable lead early before letting NDSU creep back in. After allowing Oakland to tie it up with 12 seconds left, State took it the distance FTW.
Cleveland State upset Butler in the Horizon title game instantly stealing a bubble spot from some poor fringe team (looking at you Providence and URI). Cleveland State beat the ‘Cuse at the Carrier Dome earlier this year so they can play. If by winning their conference, they only steal a spot from VaTech, Maryland, West Virginia or Boston College, I’m totally ok with it. If they steal it from my Rams, I’m going to be bullshit.
What You Will Not Want To Miss Today:
Two more auto bids at stake today – Big Sky and Northeast. No bubble stealing threats here. Win and you’re in, lose and see you next season. I’m taking Portland State and Bob Morris.
Day Two of the BET will kick off at high noon with Providence and DePaul. Providence should roll easy, but then again, the Bearcats should have too. St John’s/Marquette, Notre Dame/WV and Seton Hall/Syracuse will follow. I like the ND/WV game. ND could win this game easily.
A10 action kicks off with some of the lower seeds matching up. Potential trouble spot for URI if UMass beats Duquesne.
Pac10 starts their action today as well. Only two games and neither should impact the high seeds. Same can be said for the Big 12.
