The Night That Was and The Day That Is

What You Missed:

There were two auto bids handed out last night. Both were down to the wire, edge of your seat thrillers.

Robert Morris has not been to the Big Dance since 1992. They were attempting to win the NEC championship on their home court against favorite Mount St. Mary’s. The game was played within a 10 point range all night and it took an awkward looking jumper with 2.5 seconds left to seal the deal.

Portland State won the Big Sky in similar fashion, relying on a dunk with 3.5 seconds left to defeat Montana State. These small conference games are the balls. No question about it, they are 12 times more exciting than any of the majors.

Nothing too out of the ordinary in the BET yesterday. The ‘Cuse looked dominant against Seton Hall, especially late. The A10 Tourney saw Dukes roll over UMass. This will be a tough game for Rhody. Duquesne can score and it took a buzzer beater in OT for the Rams to get past them in their last meeting.

Texas Tech, who won 3 games all year in the Big 12, defeated Texas A&M last night. A&M apparently has a Dance ticket all sewn up, high RPI, high SOS, etc… But if they cannot beat a hapless Tech team, do they really belong?

What You Will Not Want To Miss Today:

Day Three of the BET will kick off at high noon with Providence and Louisville. PC is playing for their tourney lives, a win still might not be enough. I love the rest of the games on the schedule today. Syracuse/UConn is must see action. Villanova/Marquette, ain’t half bad either.

The ACC, SEC and Big Ten all kick off today. The top seeds won’t be in action until tomorrow, look for the seeds to roll today. I’m sure we’ll have an upset or two, there always is.

URI will take on Duquesne at 6:30 tonight. Good luck finding it on TV.

Our friends at Rush The Court posted this gem last night/this morning. If you weren't excited for March enough already, this should do the trick. Gives me goosebumps everytime.
