Daily Red Sox Spring Training Update
- There are some rumors going around that Boston is fielding calls about Manny Delcarmen. He is not happy about his reduced role, which should be even further reduced by the amount of depth the Sox have this year in the bullpen. Gammons lists the following teams as having interest Angels, Diamondbacks, Cubs, White Sox, Rockies, Royals, Brewers, A's, Padres, Giants, Mariners, and Rangers. Not sure how true this is, but if it is true Boston could be looking for a catcher, draft picks, or some kind of depth in the infield/outfield. This is just a rumor, but something to keep an eye on.
- Tazawa has quietly had an incredible spring training. In his last Triple A start, Junichi Tazawa threw only three balls in three innings. Maybe he is a lot closer to the big leagues then people thought...
- Francona has not officially announced his batting order for opening day, but it looks like Drew will be hitting 5, Bay with be 6th, and Lowell 7th. Personally I would rather have Bay at 5, but whatever.
- Jon Lester pitched five solid innings and Chris Carter hit his sixth home run of spring training, sending the Boston Red Sox over the Philadelphia Phillies 3-1 Sunday.
- Brad Penny gave up two runs in four innings Saturday and Boston beat the Minnesota Twins 9-4. Penny allowed four hits in his second exhibition start. He threw 68 pitches, 46 for strikes.
